What is the meaning of The Parable of The Good Samaritan?

This well-known parable is perhaps the most misunderstood. The average person would conclude that it teaches that we must be like a good samaritan in order to inherit eternal life, but nothing is further from the truth. Do we really have to be good people to get to heaven? or is there some deeper meaning? Here is the Good Samaritan explained in a nutshell!

The other hidden meaning in this parable is that Jesus is the good Samaritan. He takes those who are believing in Him and puts them in the care of the Holy Spirit while they are on this earth. He give the inn keeper two days wages and says when He returns he will compensate for any additional charges. It's been almost 2,000 years since Christ ascended (2 days). Be ready for his return any year now!

@@seanc2788 Wells. keep in mind errors and calendar changes. We are up to 3 years out. I.E. when Jesus was born could in fact be A.D. 3. Using other prohpecys though. there is up to 213 yers still in the current "period". But still. whats it matters. live for God as thought every day is the day.

....yes, but the parables are so rich in their meaning that they take us to be practical in our faith. I think that this parable of the Good Samaritan is telling me that all people, specially those who are in need are my neighbor. The parable also teaches me that religion is not a bunch of rituals but a call to make commitments that will help me mature in my faith. ( The Priest and the Levite in the parable did not help the beaten man on the road because they thought he was dead. And if they had touched him, they would have become impure, hence not able to perform their religious duties. By law they were not supposed to touched a dead body and ironically Leviticus also ask them to assist the needy . The priest and the Levite put rituals over compassion. They just wanted to preserve their religious status and forgot something more transcendental which was to help the poor man on the road.... I think that when religious does not touch people's heart, it is a dead religion. I am saved not just because of my faith, but also through my good works. Faith alone, is nothing.

Yes I agree. If they had fuliflled the first commandment - to love God then they could start on the second - to love their neighbour. In Matt.5:48 Jesus urges us to strive for perfection in love. Be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect. Jesus did not go around condemning people for their lack of religion, it was clear that they did not recognize God at work and so they would be condemned by their lack of faith in the Chosen One the one who could save them from the coming destruction.
