We are called to love every human being as much as we love ourselves-even those who despise us in return. In this message, Dr. R.C. Sproul indicates how Jesus’ parable of the good Samaritan upholds the dignity inherent to those made in the image of God.

I was the man on the side of the road. I had nothing to offer. I was naked, bruised and battered. I was a stranger to almighty God. And Christ came along, cleaned me up and saved me. He paid my debt in full and if I should sin again, that too, would be paid for. The gospel can be found in every parable.

CHRIST is simply teaching that "faith" ( *love* of GOD) *and* "good works" ( *love* of neighbor) are *inseparably essential* for one "to inherit or have a share in the grace of eternal life/salvation.

What is truly radical here is that Jesus says that everyone is our neighbour no matter what they believe, or don't believe, or what their opinions are, or how they 'identify'.

Yes, but the believer should not leave the neighbour in their state vulnerability. The believer who sees the person who identifies as a gay, queer etc will provide what that individual needs yo overcome that situation: Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the son of the world

From 5:44 Sproul shows from the bible that none of us can keep the law, but he ends by demonstrating how he loves his neighbour, rather than saying whatever he does for his neighbour, he loves himself more. I've just listened to John MacArthur's sermon on this parable.

Very surprised that he misses the whole point! Jesus is the good Samaritan in the parable and we (in our sin) are the beaten guy. Jesus has compassion on us, puts us on his horse, heals us, and Pays our Sin Debt in Full! The sub plot is treating other people as neighbors, the main plot is Jesus is the Good Samaritan. Why don't more people understand this? Its a parable about Jesus - they all are!

Another deeper meaning could be that Jesus gave the inn keeper two days pay to care for the persecuted man. That's not a long period of time. The inn keeper is the Holy Spirit. When Jesus departed this earth he left us the Holy Sprit to comfort us. Basically Jesus is coming back in two cosmic days. Since he was resurrected into heaven some time in 32AD, His return should be somewhere near 2032AD. During the past 2,000 years the Christians who have gone through much persecution all around the world, has always had the comforter with them.

This parable is a riddle. Most people only see it as face value, thinking that the entire point is that we should try to love others like the Good Samaritan did on the injured man. It actually goes deeper than that. Let's back up. The question was "Who is my neighbor". Jesus replied with the parable of the Good Samaritan. Then he asked, "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell on the hands of the robbers?" The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him". The answer of "who is a neighbor" in this case was "The one that had mercy" on the injured man. So, back to the Law of God, "Love your neighbor as yourself". Keep in mind, the neighbor was the one that showed mercy, the Samaritan. If that is true, then the real point is we must love those that have mercy upon us (according to the definition of what a neighbor is in this parable). The Samaritan was defined as the neighbor, and not actually the injured man himself. This parable is a mirroring of what Jesus did for us, he had mercy on sinners and this is why we must love God, because he first loved us by showing mercy to us. So, to summarize, in order to inherit eternal life, we must do two things: 1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. 2. Love your neighbor (your benefactor, those that help you, those that look after you, care for you, have your best interest, the Good Samaritans in your life) as yourself.

In the parable Jesus wants to show how hypocrite Priest and Pharasee was, and didnt know whos the neighbor, the neighbor is clearly us and Jesus is the Samaritans.."no one can perfectly love God and neighbor" thats why we cant be the samaritans.. instead, we are the dying person in the story..

As I think about this story, the Good Samaritan passed the care of this half dead stranger on to the Inn Keeper. That burden was shifted. Now who would take on the care of a half dead stranger not knowing how much time and money it would take or even if the Good Samaritan would even return to pay him? People have good intentions. It sounds like the Good Samaritan must have been wealthy. We assume this is a story and like many stories we like to add meaning and common sense.

I think above all your interpretation shows where your heart is. Who cares if he was rich? It's about helping your fellow man. It's obvious to most the innkeeper must have known the man. To think the samaritan was expecting the innkeeper to stop everything and attend to the man personally is misguided. He was able to get whatever help he needed to attend to the man KNOWING he was a man of his word.

David, if I may say in my humble opinion: Jesus' parable is so far beyond you statement "Doesn't mean one has to associate or live with them, but not to hate or wish them any harm". I can remember having the same mindset... Then one day a brother in Christ mentioned to me about "my sins of righteousness" - I'm still guilty of it all to often... Please listen again starting at 20:20 - 20:43. One of my greatest lessons learned - and it took some time was - it isn't the way I feel. It is application, the way I apply scripture to my daily walk. It is application, application, application... Thank you my friend for listening.

Does anyone see how ironic this parable is? The whole point of it is to try to show how we need to show love to every person and instead this is creating an unprecedented hatred for one group of people. The point of using this parable was to dehumanize and to justify a prejudice towards one group. Here we have the honored priest and Levite who were the ones who were looked up to and known to be pious. The nt not only paints them as callous and uncaring but it uses the lowly Samaritan to enforce this point and to directly bolster a hatred for these people that will unfortunately last for another 2000 years following this with countless massacres all stemming from stories like this. And you really think this horrible parable is promoting love and dignity for all? Unbelievable!

@@mangavaiphei8239 Not sure what you mean. You don't see a problem with taking a certain nation and painting them as heartless and uncaring?
