I think Blade deserves credit for its fight scenes. Superhero movies relied on a lot of quick cuts, some wire work, or wacky gimmicks. They felt like comic panels just put up on screen when they did action. Blade really put the action front and center with less cuts and you can follow what is happening but still be amazed at the skill. The martial arts film influence on Blade is obvious but Blade bridged a gap over to superheroes of making the action feel important and less like a gimmick.

Excellent point. Blade definitely is the first comic book movie I can remember that had actual good action scenes.

Great points by all the Pals! I'm going to offer one positive and one negative and they both occurred about the same time. Positive: The first Avengers movie, because it showed you could take all of these plot points from previous movies and weave them into an ensemble movie that works - and works big time! The negative is Green Lantern, because expectations were so high and that movie bombed so bad and so hard it set a trajectory from which you could argue the DCEU never really recovered. One final point: Batman 89 was a cultural phenomenon at the time, where it became cool to wear Batman apparel. That was a first and has really continued to present.
