What is the One True Faith? | Upstart Crow | BBC Comedy Greats 0156am 6.9.22 murders of convenience? sounds like the miners' strikes. time for a new ben elton comedy? maybe he should team up with rowen atkinson to create another historical farce based upon satanic heresy, no doubt... that'd be cool.

It’s weird, it all felt like good fun in Blackadder II but does anyone else feel like Ben Elton and co are weirdly eager to draw a false equivalence between Mary Tudor and Elizabeth I? I realize there’s been a historical corrective to ER I’s lionization but she was no religious fanatic on the model of her half-sister…

She totally was though. Executions, imprisonment, censure, subverting parliament... I would argue that she went a step further, with the whole Scotland situation. Really the only reason she is portrayed as good is that she won. Her ability to rule was unparalleled. And she did set England on the path to greatness.

The British are Celts, the English are german immigrants: the tribe of the "Angeln". They came together with another ethnicity of german immigrants: the "Sachsen". And that's where the term Anglo-Saxon comes from.

Yeah the hamfisted allusion to Brexit was eyeroll inducing. It wasn't particularly funny though, more of the same tiresome luvvie crap that passes for wit in those circles. The series in general are funny, minus moments like this.
@livrowland1712 жыл бұрын
@@aquatera3815 it was funny unless you voted Brexit and it's sensitive topic because it's so shit and has harmed the country and its image abroad and removed rights from Brits for no benefit. Those who didn't vote for it still have to suffer it, so at least let is have a laugh. If it's so great after all, then it should be water off a duck's back (which Shakespeare probably coined, or would have claimed to have done if not!).

Facts, you mean? Brexit is the reason the UK is the worst-performing economy among the developed nations. The UK put up trade barriers with its neighbours and removed free movement to study, work, retire, to 30 countries from its citizens, but hey you 'got your country back'
