What is the Order of the Arrow and what is the Ordeal

Order of the Arrow was founded in 1915. The Nawakwa Lodge #3 serves the Heart of Virginia Council.

Speaking to non-OA adults to introduce them to the Order of the Arrow, begin with the history of the OA, the Lenni Lenape legend and why was the organization formed within the BSA. Throwing out ceremonial names or OA activities is difficult to explain if the audience doesn’t know the purpose of the OA. Why do Scout councils have Lodges? To recognize those Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their lives. Why does a Scout or Scouter see in themselves being selected for induction as an honor? How does the BSA expect their Lodges to be an asset to the Council and Scout camp. Telling the audience key figures in the ceremony or tryin to explain what the Ordeal is, is fluff and the audience looses the whole point as to Why do we have the OA. Graphics, slides and handouts would be very helpful.
