I really appreciate the effort you put into this video. I am a resident of Ashland so live not too far from all of this. I’ve always revered Jeb Stuart and actually have a painting of him hanging in my dining room… Both sides of my family fought in the Civil War, my mom’s in Mississippi my dad’s in Georgia….. Keep up the good work!

Nice tour! Thanks! I remember taking a field trip with my VCU Civil War history class in the late 70's when I-295 did not exist yet, and Telegraph Rd. was "whole".

Thank you for taking the time to reconstruct the battle. It was very thorough, and well done. It is too bad that more of the battlefield could not be preserved.

Wonderful video! Helps one get a feel for the battleground. Have been to that monument. It is a shame more Civil War sites could not have been preserved from modern sprawl. Mechanicsville is especially bad. Thanks for your efforts!

Thanks for the historical retracing of JEB Stuart. Actually, I would put this video up there with CNN in presentation and I was pretty much glued to the whole adventure. Finally arriving at the Stuart memorial was fun.

Fantastic job. Really enjoyed it. You literally carved out the battlefield in modern day surroundings. I'm a civil war reenactor and really enjoy details of battlefields and the battles. Again very good job.

Thank you so much for these 2 videos. History nerds like myself dig it, (and us map-nerds, too.) 295 kind of wrecks the continuity and a clean sweep through the battlefield by car is difficult, and you did an excellent job of marking the points of interest.

What started it all was a desire by Sheridan and Custer to disrupt the southern army and destroy Stuarts cavalry. The idea was turned down by Meade who was commander of the army of the potomac, however Grant the overall commander of Union forces liked the idea and authorized it. The union forces prevailed and Stuart was shot by one of Custers men a Canadian from a small village about 30 miles north of Toronto Ontario.called Holland Landing. No doubt overall Union numbers helped win the day, northern forces also had superior fire power thanks to the spencer repeaters the carried.

Thanks for the video. CAV - AL - RY. Calvary is the hill Jesus was crucified on. Wickham's line was at the top of the ridge, along what is now Old Francis Road (west of Brook) and Francis Road (east of Brook). You can find an historical marker noting the right end of Wickham's line at a small park on the corner of Virginia Center Parkway and Holliman Drive. My house used to sit on Telegraph Road where 295 now crosses it. When 295 was being built, the house was moved to the top of the hill, on Francis Road.

Very well done. I had been to Yellow Tavern years ago but didn't really have an understanding of the terrain and how the battle played out. This made sense for me of what I saw back then. Whether you did a video or not you should go online and find a tour route for Stuart's ride around McClellan in 1862. It's about a 50 mile ride, but well worth the trip.

Good film. Next time could you maybe use a steadier hand with that camera. The bumpy movement is just a little uncomfortable, no offense :) I love civil war history and would love to check this site out soon!

It a good thing that this battle wasn't inside richmond city limits or the mob would have defaced the monument. If they didn't get to it then some democrat would have thought they're doing everyone a favor by removing it.

I'm going to assume that you are somehow related to Confederate General James Longstreet? The reason I ask is that the name Longstreet is quite an uncommon name in this country. I have not personally met anyone with that name in all my nearly 60 years, and I've been around the block a few times. If you are related, have you any tidbits of info about him not already known? He was a very interesting personality, as most people know. Thank you.
