Thank you so much for this ministry! I can’t even express how helpful your videos are. I just ordered your book on the Messianic prophecies and can’t wait to learn more. My father is Jewish, and has so many objections to my faith in Jesus. I didn’t meet him until I was in my twenties. I feel so unprepared to answer him since I was raised in the Christian church and have never faced the objections that only someone raised in the Hebrew tradition would have. You sir, are a God send!

"But that He had, beyond all others, in Himself that pre-eminent birth which is from the Most High Father, and also experienced that pre-eminent generation which is from the Virgin, Isaiah 7:14 the divine Scriptures do in both respects testify of Him: also, that He was a man without comeliness, and liable to suffering; Isaiah 53:2 that He sat upon the foal of an ass; Zechariah 9:9 that He received for drink, vinegar and gall; that He was despised among the people, and humbled Himself even to death and that He is the holy Lord, the Wonderful, the Counsellor, the Beautiful in appearance, and the Mighty God, Isaiah 9:6 coming on the clouds as the Judge of all men; Daniel 7:13 - all these things did the Scriptures prophesy of Him." About this tense thing. i love the way Psalm 22 speaks of the glory that would incur from Christ's sufferings, saying 'They shall declare His Righteousness to a people yet unborn, for HE HAS DONE IT.' which the foreknowledge of God ordained in wisdom before creation had barely begun about 'the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world' spoken of in The Revelation. When God plans to do something, it is as good as done. You can count on it. Delightful. Beautiful. Wise. Glory to God.

Finally putting to rest some of the attempts to bias folks against the text being Messianic! Thank you, brother! The passages about the servant in the latter section of Isaiah deserve a similar stand-alone 20-minute exposition to show why the servant is used as a Messianic prophecy. It has come up in pieces from time to time by Dr. Brown, but something of this quality could be helpful. Keep up the good work!

For a child had been born to us, a son had been given to us, and the dominion is upon his shoulder; and he called his name (who called the child’s name?); the Wonderous Advisor, Mighty God, Eternal Father (God called his name), (and what did he call him?) Prince of peace (who is it being called? Hezekiah). This is the correct translation taking into consideration the context, tense, coherence, and cantillation. Context: The כי, which is “because” in Hebrew, at the beginning of the verse indicates that the child’s birth is related and connected to the preceding verses or verse, and is providing a reason for the aforementioned content. What was previously discussed ? Victory over the enemy. Which enemy ? Sennacherib and his failure to conquer Jerusalem. His presence is clearly alluded to in chapter 8. The only candidate to be present and connected to Sennacherib’s failure, and worthy of being characterized with distinction is none other than King Hezekiah. His presence, and only his presence, makes logical sense with Sennacherib. Why was there victory? “For a child has been born and destined to protect us. A “prince of peace”, for Sennacherib lost without a fight ! A miraculous victory that brought peace. (This objection completely eliminates the introduction of Jesus into the context. This is true no matter how you interpret these appellations. For even if all the appellations of the verse refer to one entity, they would still be designations reserved only for whom is relevant contextually, namely, King Hezekiah) Context 2: Furthermore, “…and the dominion is upon his shoulder…” (Isaiah 9:6) Hezekiah was an actual King, with an actual kingdom, he had genuine authority and great responsibilities (Historical Jesus had no authority other than over his small following, no actual dominion) Context 3: Also, “…Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) Jesus certainly did not not have any peace in his days, at any time, only war and conflict ! Tense: Furthermore, The “past perfect tense” regarding the child’s birth indicates that the prophecy cannot be something far into the future. Rather, it must be referring to a birth relevant to the times at which it is being uttered, namely the birth of Hezekiah. Textual Coherence: The next point is very important, according to the Christian interpretation, the verse says “and he will call his name”, then, the verse goes on to call his name, all appellations that follow included, however, the verse is utterly lacking, for who is calling his name? The verse is fundamentally lacking. Rather, it must be correctly interpreted as we’ve elucidated, being that the verse lacks who is doing the “name calling” (according to the Christian understanding), the verse should actually be read, “God, who is the deep advisor, powerful mighty one, everlasting father, called him. What did he call him, that child ? A “prince of peace” For his victory over Sennacherib brought peace, as explained above. (Now, although some verses speak poetically at times, and a lack, although rare, can occur, when one has a viable solution to avoid it, it’s unambiguously more reasonable and preferable to assume the more coherent interpretation. Moreover, when combined with the other objections, the coherent interpretation is rendered, inevitably, as the accurate exegesis) Cantillation: Furthermore, the cantillation very clearly indicates that the term “prince of peace”, stands alone, for the words are preceded by the musical note called “tarcha” which indicates a separation, a different application and distinction. (Those meticulous of Hebrew grammar understand the importance of these subtleties) Conclusion: Inserting Jesus into the text is most definitely an attempt of eisegesis, a distortion.

@johnnybrave7443
@johnnybrave7443 15 күн бұрын
Wrong, you're following the translation based on the punctuations added by the masoretic scribes, which goes against the syntax and the context of the biblical Hebrew , following the right syntax and the context will lead to the fact that all the names belong to the child That's how things were in the previous scriptures where a child is named too in the book of Isaiah Your scribes forced punctuations to make the verse look like something it's actually not 😊
@johnnybrave7443
@johnnybrave7443 15 күн бұрын
kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYvNgZSIq52GkNksi=lZedOgMlYHpDipJB Besides the prophetic perfect tense is used for a wide variety of prophecies that speak as though it's past tense but it's actually going to happen in the future And there's no way Hezekiah was known as Mighty God And the icing on the cake, he didn't establish his throne and rule forever Isaiah 9:7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. 😊
@Jack-vy2vx
@Jack-vy2vx 15 күн бұрын
@@johnnybrave7443 Ok, first of all the “punctuations” argument is one among many arguments. Secondly, if you trust the “mesoretic text” enough to base 99 percent of Christian translations upon it, logically speaking, there is no reason not to rely on their punctuations; for what reason is their to differentiate ?
@johnnybrave7443
@johnnybrave7443 15 күн бұрын
@@Jack-vy2vx because they are later additions? And goes against grammar syntax and context of biblical Hebrew!? And Christians use a wide variety of older manuscripts, not just masoretic, only the KJV and the rabbinic jewish works are limited to masoretic text 😐

Ikara is the future or the imperfect tense meaning not yet accomplish or being accomplish... Kara is the perfect tense meaning accomplished... The verse should read : '' He shall call his name...'' TALMUD always said this was future and about the Messiah. Targum Jonathan to the Prophets: “The prophet announced to the house of David that: ‘A boy has been born unto us, a son has been given unto us, who has taken the Torah upon himself to guard it; and his name has been called by the One who gives wonderful counsel, the Mighty God, He who lives forever: “Messiah,” in whose day peace shall abound for us. He shall make great the dignity of those who labor in the Torah and of those who maintain peace, without end; on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to build it in justice and in righteousness, from this time forth and forever. This shall be accomplished by the Memra of the Lord of Hosts.'”[1] Babylonian Talmud (Tract Derech Erez Zutha): “Rabbi Hose the Galilean said: Also the name of the Messiah is called Peace, for it is written (Isaiah 9:6): ‘Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.'”[2] Midrash Rabbah (Debarim 1): “The Rabbis lay the following words in the mouth of the patriarch Jacob: “I have still to bring forth the King Messiah as it is written: ‘Unto us a child is born.'”[3] Iggereth Teman (Rabbi Moses ben Maimon writes to Jacob Alfajumi): “God named Him (the Messiah) with six names as He says concerning Him: ‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, God, Mighty, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’. That He calleth Him God in a distinctive manner, is to say with it, that His glory surpasses that of all other children of men.”[4] Aben Ezra: “There are some interpreters who say that ‘Wonderful, Everlasting Father’ are names of God and only ‘Prince of Peace’ is the name of the child. But according to my view the interpretation is right (which says): all are the names of the child.”[5] Targum Isaiah: “The prophet saith to the house of David, A child has been born to us, a son has been given to us; and He has taken the law upon Himself to keep it, and His name had been called from of old, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, He Who Lives Forever, The Anointed One (or Messiah), in whose days peace shall increase upon us.”[6]

The obsession to go back to solid Jewish sources and linguistics is that some modern missionaries are hoping we will remain in ignorance, as they make accusations claiming the Scriptures are being misused, ... when actually the Messianic use of those Scriptures more closely aligns with traditional Jewish sources and linguistics!

The pseudo-rabbi Tovia Singer puts the familiar label "Christians changed the times of scripture." But this Pseudo-Rabbi forgets that the translation of the Old Testament was not done by the Christians but by the 70 Jewish translators of the scriptures. The Jews and no pseudo-rabbi dare enter into a dialogue with an orthodox Christian apologist because they know what will happen in front of their own audience. God who became man is Christ Himself, the incarnate word of God. Christ died only in his human nature, but as God that he is he even lived and lives eternally. David himself says it in Psalm 16: You will not leave my soul in Hades and you will not let your faithful one know corruption. In this Psalm, the Messiah, that is, Jesus Christ, is speaking. Isaiah 9:6: כִּי־יֶ֣לֶד יֻלַּד־לָ֗נוּ בֵּ֚ן נִתַּן־לָ֔נוּ וַתְּהִ֥י הַמִּשְׂרָ֖ה עַל־שִׁכְמֹ֑ו וַיִּקְרָ֨א שְׁמֹ֜ו פֶּ֠לֶא יֹועֵץ֙ אֵ֣ל גִּבֹּ֔ור אֲבִיעַ֖ד שַׂר־שָׁלֹֽום "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." The Lord’s chosen will carry out his purpose against Babylon; his arm will be against the Babylonians. I, even I, have spoken; yes, I have called him. I will bring him, and he will succeed in his mission. “Come near me and listen to this: “From the first announcement I have not spoken in secret; at the time it happens, I am there.” And now the Sovereign Lord has sent me, endowed with his Spirit.” In Isaiah 48:12-16 the God is speaking. Now, How the God can say that “The Lord has sent me with his spirit.”??? “The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob.’ I answered, ‘Here I am.’ And he said, ‘Look up and see that all the male goats mating with the flock are streaked, speckled or spotted, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you. I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land.’ ”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭31‬:‭11‬-‭13‬ ‭ “Then God said to Jacob, “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭35‬:‭1‬ ‭ How can God saying to Jacob “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”” Why in Genesis 31:11-13 says the angel of the Lord: I’m the God of Bethel? ‭‭ “The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my Lord, do not pass your servant by.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭ “Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭ In this verses God says that he will visit Sodom and Gomorrah by Himself. Now watch this: “The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭22‬ ‭ We see in this verse that Abraham remained standing before the Lord, but the 2 men went in Sodom and Gomorrah. How can God says: “I will go down and see if what they have done.” When God remained stood with Abraham while the 2 men’s went to sodoma and gommorah? “The Lord said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭26‬ ‭ How God can find something in the city while is with Abraham? This is a big proof that God is one but inside of him is 3 Person. “Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah-from the Lord out of the heavens.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭19‬:‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬ The Hebrew text translates the Lord=YHWH. (יהוה) YHWH is the God. Now, How can YHWH (יהוה( rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah from the YHWH( יהוה( which is in Heaven? English: And God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness. They shall rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the cattle, the whole earth, and all the creeping things that creep on earth.” 1) The Hebrew text doesn't say that God was talking to the angels or anything else. 2) Angel's cannot create life or give life. 3) In the next text about the creation of human says that the man created like in the Image of God and hes likeness. That shows that inside of the One God more than one persons is speaking.

But you praise Ibn Ezra's translation, in which Hezekiah is deemed a Messiah (even if not THE Messiah)--for the term itself was used to mean a person of renown such as a king--and then you state that the Targum is incorrect because since Hezekiah's kingdom was not eternal, he cannot be considered the Messiah. Which is it? Is the Targum, that is, Ibn Ezra, correct or incorrect? Further, the Targum admits that there is legitimate debate regarding whether the passage refers to Gd or the child. If so, why are you so critical of the former interpretation? Surely you realize that rabbis, whether ancient or modern, have different views on scripture, particularly on the meaning of prophecy, and sometimes both interpretations are valid, which neither Rabbi Singer nor you admit.
@glennshrom5801
@glennshrom5801 Жыл бұрын
The Targum was correct in considering the passage messianic. If it did refer to Hezekiah, then it was in a lesser sense as "a messiah", since the kingdom of Hezekiah did not last forever. There remained to be the messiah whose kingdom would last forever. I see Brown as critical, as you are, of Singer's failure to allow for a different interpretation. Singer mocks any suggestion of such an interpretation as ridiculous and only a mistake that Christians make, so Brown is showing that it is not so ridiculous and not limited to Christians, since Jews take that interpretation seriously. I don't think Brown ever says that any different interpretation is ridiculous, but only that Singer's failure to allow for a different interpretation is ridiculous. Check out the video again and see if I'm right about that. Oh, but I see now that both Brown and Singer seem to be saying that it's gotta be either one interpretation or the other in the final analysis. As you say, then, neither comes out and says that both interpretations may be simultaneously valid. I wonder what Brown would say about that, if he were pressed on the question of whether there could be multiple layers/meanings to the prophesy. There is no simple question of the passage referring to Gd or the child. Both interpretations agree that there is a child referred to in the passage.

That's why the prophets never refer to the name Jesus, Rev3;12 & Isaiah 62;2 A NEW name is given, only He who receives it will know. I woke up on fire being devoured by sin while being in the flesh, it's far beyond mans ability to even imagine the kind of terror you become to yourself. The vexation was to understand the report and follow the map that lead back to Myself How else would the true Messiah know without a doubt who He is?.And prove it. I was under a sleeping spell that erased all past memories. Now you know why I said don't believe anyone coming in My name, Matt 24;5&24;23 I gotta NEW one in the end that was told from the beginning. On cross I accepted the debt of sin, becoming sin itself, that's what the fig tree was all about. Drop'd Myself a puzzle piece that only I could fit. I don't care about the NT since it's not blessed or hinted to in the Tanak but Dr. Browns claim that Isaiah 9:6 is a future event and his proofs are so easy to debunk. Why do you capitalize messiah? It’s a bit misleading. There was many messiahs in the Old Testament. In all of those cases was that god in the flesh as well? Also I don’t see anywhere in the Old Testament that the messiah will be divine and you’ll have declare to believe in him for salvation. It’s weird that to get salvation according to Christianity you have to do a ritual baptism to Jesus and say you believe in him instead of god. But I guess that’s why the doctrine of the trinity was made up.
@bobo577
@bobo577 7 күн бұрын
The Trinity wasn’t made up. The writers of the New Testament were aware Jesus made claims about himself that no human could make. Hence why passages about YHWH in the Old Testament apply to Jesus in the New. (Isaiah 6 and Psalm 102:25-27 being two examples but not the only ones.) Belief in Jesus is not in the place of YHWH, but rather one of the persons of the Godhead who make up the One God YHWH, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The “messiahs” mentioned elsewhere as you correctly say are in the Old Testament (Messiah meaning anointed one.) They weren’t God in the flesh though.

The problem is that people don't understand that God created original Adam in His image and likeness, spirit, soul and body, three parts each with its own function but together forming one being. The body is our visible part that can interact with the physical realm but is controlled by the soul (mind), the spirit is the part that gives us life and connect to God. Yehovah said he is the only saviour, He manifested in Adam's fallen state (flesh) representing fallen Adam who was created to be son of God and sinned from that position... Yehoshua (Yeho-saviour) was a visible manifestation of Yehovah to restore what Adam has lost.
