The Running Channel My 1st Runner’s High: It came to me on a late night run while on vacation in Sarasota Florida. I was jogging around the island we were staying on one night. I ran for around 45 minutes and I realized something was happening to me that I had never experienced before. My chest was burning but I felt awesome, my arms began to burn, my legs started burning but I kept going faster, before I knew it I was almost sprinting (not quite tho). I continued running like that until I made all the way around the small island. It was the best feeling ever! almost..... I can dial in a similar feeling when I work out on the heavy bag. When I am lucky enough I can make it happen around my 7th or 8th round. It’s a good feeling but MY FIRST RUNNER’S HIGH HAS NEVER BEEN EQUALLED!

I had a runners high a couple days ago. I have had runners high a couple of times before but I didn't think to much about it. What it felt like for me was that I was running up hill the entire time and it felt good. A couple mile later down the road and my knees literally gave up on me. I tried running a little bit more but my knees couldn't handle it. I'm 21 and in the Army (U.S. Paratrooper) I don't think my knees are supposed to be that bad where they just give up. I love running but I don't want it to end. If you have any tips on how to make my knees better that would be great. Thanks

Had this today for the first time. Slept nearly 8 hours the night before, then had a big bowl of oatmeal, banana and coffee for breakfast at 10 and ran around 3 hours later. Easy pace 7k, 51mins with a steep long hill in the middle and a medium hill later on. During my final 1.5k (where I really had to mentally push the week before) I could fell my legs starting to ache but was able to balance my effort right on the edge of tiring. A few minutes later I felt this tingling session in my head and both my breathing and running rhythms suddenly synced tighter than they’d ever been before, no aches, very light feet and this warm calmness. It felt like that content moment when you wake up in the morning, panic because you think you’re late for work but then realise it’s Saturday and you can stay in bed. My final 1k was my fastest split (the week before it had been my slowest) and I noticed my heart rate was well into my max zone for roughly the final 10 minutes of my run even though it didn’t feel tiring. It lasted about another 40 minutes after I’d finished. I will 100% be chasing that feeling again.

🤔Can't say I've ever experienced it while running, but I do feel amazing (at least mentally) after each run. The longer the run, the better my mood and the longer the feeling lasts. A 30 min run lifts my mood for the remainder of the day. A 2-hour run usually improves my wellbeing for 24 hours or more. 🥰

Experienced it properly for the first time today during the last bit and after a 10 mile run. During the last bit of the run I just felt like I was in autopilot mode and it felt like I didn’t really have to put in any effort to run ...I was in this state of flow and felt like I could keep going ..after the run I did feel euphoria and felt this warm feeling in my head like there was a rush of blood ..I felt super relaxed and happy and just laid there looking at a tree and feeling grateful for everything :)

I'm new to running, done my first 5K last week. However, I find that I often get the warm fuzzies around the half way mark. It's maybe just relief and satisfaction that I have made it half way through and feel confident that I can finish okay. But it's at this point that my legs feel warm and flexible, I get a deep feeling of contentment and almost feel like laughing out loud. I can't recommend running enough and The Running Chanel for its consistently high quality content. Thanks guys for your hard work.

While I have a sense of satisfaction when I'm hitting my goals of getting out and exercising, I don't think it's any more than the satisfaction of hitting any other goal. I have this quite often, especially when I do more than 10km. To me it feels like a I have been bathed in the happiest feeling. To make it easier for others who haven't experienced it yet, it can feel like when the whoosh of relief you get when pain medicine starts working, a really good memory, or even a song that makes you want to sing as loud as you can. For some it can be similiar to when they eat chocolate, but for me, it is stronger and helps me push further because it makes me feel like I can do anything.

I love it but best is to not get to focused on it or expect it every time you run. It happens, it can be short and subtle or can be overwhelming and get you in a state of feeling invincible, feeling everything is possible at that present moment. There isn't a clear set of variables that make it predictable to me when or how it happens. As mentioned in the video, you always feel better after a run then beforehand. This is true and also a good motivator to never have a excuse to skip a running day / training.

I've running races and training over 60 years, and I've experienced the runner's high countless times. It takes a high level of exertion for at least an hour to an hour and a half or more to get the body and brain into the right zone (it helps if you are in good shape), then if I'd back off just a little, a feeling of floating and being able to run effortlessly would come over me. I think that it is as much mental as physical so you gotta want it! Just do it, go for it; you won't ever regret it--keep running!!

I've gotten it before multiple times, almost every time I go running. Usually 3/4 into my run. It feels like a slight boost in endurance and energy and euphoria. Probably my favorite thing about it is the mind feeling you get. Its like the run becomes more introspective. And what I also like is that some songs become a tiny bit slower and I am able to hear details I don't usually hear. Its like a super light thc high. 10/10 recommend i know i have it when my eyes become heavy

The feeling for me is sort of like when I've gone 9km and have been struggling for the last km or so, when everything seems easier and I feel like I could go on forever. I have to look down on my watch and check if I'm still keeping pace and I am, sometimes even going faster than the set pace. Our bodies are strange machines.

I have been running fairly consistently since 1987 and, I can count on one hand, the numbers of Runner's High runs I have experienced. In short, it's a realization (while running) that you can do more (speed/distance or both). Once you start "doing more" you realize its EASY and you start doing EVEN more (speed/distance or both)! I have had 3-mile runs turn into 8-9 mile runs and I ran them at speeds just below my sprint speed...it's amazing! Runner's High runs are awesome...I just wish I got more of them.

Love a good runner's high! Experienced it at the end of Yorkshire Marathon. Sped up lapping up the crowd noise even though I was knackered and so I cramped up! Worth it though haha

Ive been going for short (3k) runs early in the morning as part of my general training. I usually end up feeling pretty good after them. Certainly better than before I started the run anyway!

I experienced a runner’s high the first time I attempted hill training. I picked out a half-mile long hill and blasted up at about 90% effort. Half way up I realized I was going way too hard but was determined to finish the hill as hard as I could. As soon as I reached the top and slowed down I literally felt as high as if I had smoked marijuana. It was amazing. I rode the feeling on a slow jog back down the hill, but it went away immediately as soon as I started my next repeat and never came back. I have been chasing it ever since but never found it again.

Yes, I have experience it too, about 20 to 30 minutes after run start at a fast pace. Also after about 2 hours of intensive yoga. Sometimes it is stronger then other but afterwards say walking can feel like floating in the air, propelled by some 'magical' force :-) And the feelings themselves can get pretty exhilarating too.

I’ve experienced runners high lots of times - but I get different highs with different forms of exercise. It really is to me like trying different malts - which is just as well because I’ve been on the wagon for over 20 years. I experience a high when running but also feel a totally amazing high after fast 5k and 10ks. 80% of the time in my 20s I was completely stoned (difficult years but I came out the other side). Discovering running 4 years ago at the age of 48, the post run high was a strange deja vu of that stoned feeling. It is the same feeling of detachment from stresses and worries - it’s like there’s shit to deal with but it’s not a big deal. It is the same, except without the come down and paranoia. If only I’d known that all those years ago, I would have saved quite a bit of money.

ahhhhh the runners high. it is THE best feeling, the first time i experienced it i couldn't stop smiling and giggling. i probably looked crazy as i was running by myself but then i remembered i looked crazy for running at 10pm anyway. i have found that i am "high" anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes.

I seem like having "runner's high" AFTER a long distance running and it can last up to 6 hours. I would describe the feeling like I was on small dose of pethidine, so soothing and yes, addicting..

I had my first real running high I decided to run for 7 miles on my 1st 2nd and a bit of my 3rd mile man my legs and feet just felt so tired and burned like an intense leg workout I guess that from sitting on the couch the past couple of months. Mile 4 it hit I didn't feel tired no pain anymore and I just felt like I could run forever. Also I'm a nose breather when I run so it felt like how you would be sitting on the couch breathing normally that's how I felt. Like no harsh in and out breathing just chilaxed air flow. I also was running at a pace of 8 mph. I really enjoy it I'm going to finish the trail tomorrow. If you want a runners high just run for 2 miles through the burning pain then take a break of a walk then get back to it and bam runners high. You'll know when you feel it. Also listening to music helps so if you have a back pack to put your phone in that'll be good.

I think I just had runners high which is why I’m looking it up. My legs felt fine, there was no pain, I wasn’t tired, I felt like I was running really fast and that I could run forever. However when I finished my run I was slugged in the stomach with 2 stitches and my legs nearly buckled 😂 Well worth it though.

I do feel that both when doing my tempo session and 30 minutes after starting my long run I actually feel lighter and happier, but it's nothing compared to my trail runs probably thanks to the scenery and the fresh air, one thing I noticed also is that the running high tend to last longer when your run in company I personally think that it makes the workout feel easier taking away the stress that most of the time is associated to it.

Being a long term depressive and riven with anxiety/fear I certainly notice when running that my emotional state changes: I can become silly(sic) ... this irritates me, I don't know what those around me think. I can become tearful .... melancholic.... which is usually fine; because it 'lets it all out' rather than sadness grab me by my (metaphorical) ankles and attempt to (metaphorically) drown me. My more general thoughts as a depressive: Running is useful (very) for me. Physical health benefits. Discipline - the basics such as leaving the house Very important: races booked give me 'something to look forward to'. My experience (not me attempting to speak for anyone else!) is that running + the correct happy-pills (sic) has helped my emotional/mental state: at the very least it has slowed down the deterioration in my general condition (sic): sometimes, briefly, after a run goes well (particularly in a race situation) I get a glimpse of what the notions of satisfaction and even (gasp!) happiness mean.... Excuse my self-indulgence on this subject. It isn't so someone will say "there, there aren't you a brave little soldier!" - tho that's nice - it is just a conversation to which I can usefully (?) contribute.

I usually get into the flow of it after 6 to 7k these days, get nicely warmed up and break all the stiffness out of my calves. After 13ish, I start to feel good, like there's a wave behind me pushing me on, but nothing that I'd really call a high.

I thought it was interesting when one set of research said after two hours of running... I get that runners high after a good workout commonly 5-10 KM running hard, or with hills, especially in cool weather. It's hard to put it in words, but my chest feels like I could run forever without fatigue.

I had heard of this but never felt it, I came from the military where of course you run but never got this runners high. About three months ago I started just walking daily and after walking long enough I just felt the natural need to run . The first day I ran I was surprised I did so well on my normal route that would normally leave me beat After more consistent running I got really good and one day last week I ran my route in the morning, then later on the evening i did it again...doesn't sound huge but was to me Before I got committed that route would kick my ass and then leave me done for the day. But I ran it twice and the crazy thing is, I felt I could do more and wanted to I was so surprised at this that I looked up these videos to see if I started feeling this runners high. It really is an odd thing, so much for me I had to research it. It honestly a weird feeling but I get it now, running is kinda dope as shit

I didn’t believe in runners high until I first felt it. It was just a constant feeling of calmness and happiness and I felt less pain. It didn’t just last after a run it was the whole day, but I did train 6/7 days of the week. I just thought people talked good about running to get others to do it more 😂 now I love running. It doesn’t happen in 1 or 2 runs though. It takes a while of running to get a good feel of it
