i remember that same earthquake, we felt it in boston too. i was high with my friend in the third floor of my parents house, and i remember thinking that my grandma was probably doing laundry and turned the dryer on because our dryer was rickety as fuck. at that moment the concept of a dryer literally shaking an entire house side to side made perfect sense.

If you are enclosed by a metal cage like a car, the electric current will take the path of least resistance 100% of the time. So the voltage will travel around you if are in a car. Being in a convertible you are not completely surrounded by an electric cage so it’s infinitely more likely you’ll receive voltage from a strike on the car. This phenomenon is a called a faraday cage and is why airplanes don’t blow up when they get hit and same with enclosed cars.
