Galarian Yamask is still the spirit of a dead human, but the clay tablet is possessing that spirit. Yamask gets fully devoured when it evolves, which is why it needs to be weakened. It's possible the dragon is another alternate form of Eternatus, or a Pokemon that has yet to be revealed.

It is said that it draws its strength from the resentment of others." so it's a curse. But why?

Yes, Sword entry for Yamask and Runerigus are all about it being possessed by this mysterious tablet, while Shield calls Galarian Yamask a "vengeful spirit". Both describes that rune painting as somewhat cursed though. "Cursed engravings" (Sword) that have "horrific memories" (Shield) behind it.
@GeneralNickles5 жыл бұрын
The stone arch that you have to walk under to evolve it is clearly meant to be stone henge. In the real world, stone henge is believed to have been a site use for rituals and festivals that may or may not have included human sacrifices. So it follows that galaran(I refuse to call it "galarian" because the region isn't called "galaria") yamask is the vengeful spirit of one of those sacrifices bound to the engraved tablet they was killed on(and the red "paint" could even be there blood.) The "wandering spirit" angle could even explain why galaran yamask is found so far from where it evolves. It wandered towards the ancient ruins of village it once lived in, but never made it home. This also explains the crazy evolution method. It becomes weakened from having lost so much HP and is overwhelmed by the rage it feels when it's returned to the site where it was sacrificed. This allows the curse from the tablet to overtake it.
The tablet is clearly a representation of Eternatus. It caused the Darkest Day, but was sealed away by the heroes, likely using the clay tablets as a some kind of Runic magic.

I usually quite like your theories, and even when I disagree with them I just accept that they're a matter of opinion and up for debate, but i feel like this one just doesn't work. The pokedex implies that yamask is still a human spirit, but it's being taken over by the dark spirit contained within the runes on the tablet, and when it evolves the spirit fully takes over. Also as a side note, to me it seems like the dreepy line is intentionally supposed to be dead anorith/armaldo from the past, but that one is definitely up for interpretation and is more iffy. Still an entertaining video though! Btw, Runerigus is likely pronounced roo-ne-ri-gus (when you popped up the corrected pronunciation on screen you accidentally added an extra g sound before the "ri")

I believe they’re inspired by Skoll and Hati.. the wolves who devoured the sun/moon. What were to happen if we have our first shiny evolution method on our hands? Another interesting theory is we have poipole and naganadel that heavily look like Eternatus. Even their typings match up and plus they’re all from space. What were to happen in ancient times that Eternatus came down and the two lycanrocs evolved into Zacian/Zamazenta and in theory “ became “ legendary in that moment.

Okay, so after a bit of thought I have my own theory on this Pokémon line AND there is somewhat of a connection with the Galarian Corsola you mentioned. According to Dreepy’s Pokédex entry in Sword, it states: “After being reborn as a ghost Pokémon, Dreepy wanders the areas it used to inhabit back when it was alive in prehistoric seas.” This leads me to the belief that, much like Galarian Corsola, it “was alive” back when Galar was a more oceanic region. I’m even thinking that the Dusty Bowl, itself, or even the entire Wild Area, may have once been a lake or ocean long ago, and if this is so, maybe those ruins that cause it to evolve - maybe that image that “possesses” Dreepy, is in fact an image of the oceanic Pokemon it once was, much like Galarian Corsola was once Johtoan Corsola. Anyway that’s just what came to mind off the Pokédex entry and I thought it worth exploring a little bit. P.S. Don’t worry about Dragapult launching Dreepy from its horns. According to its Shield entry, the little buggers love it.

Toby. This doesn't make any sense. Yamask is still a dead human but is being possessed by the spirit. It's only when it evolves the spirit fully controls the Pokémon. The only thing is where the stone slab even came from. Some could say yamask (from gen5) lost the head it was carrying and looked for something else as replacement and saw the tablet so decided to use that. But little did it know the tablet was being possessed by an evil spirit. But the thing is what could've died to become the tablet in the first place. That is a mystery.

@lordofuzkulak83085 жыл бұрын
As others have said here, the dex entry for Galarian Yamask specifically says that it's still a regular Yamask, just one that picked up a Cursed tablet and got possessed by it. I think it's likely that the serpentine creature depicted on the assembled tablet is supposed to be Eternatus. Now while it doesn't look entirely like Eternatus, it's worth baring in mind that it's shown in game that the facts from the original Darkest Day have become distorted over time so it's entirely plausible that the artists who made the original tablets didn't have first hand experience of Eternatus itself so based the description on third hand accounts and/or made them some considerable time later which would account for the descepancies. Also, it's probably worth keeping in mind that many real life mythological creatures are likely based on mangaled/distorted accounts of actual creatures (e.g. unicorns are likely people who lived far away from African being told about rhinos and interpreting it to mean rhinos look like horses with a single horn), so it's likely the same would happen in the world of Pokemon. The malevolence of tablets taking over Yamasks would also work well with the concept of Eternatus being sealed away if it was because the tablets were used in the original sealing it away and thus each contained a fragment of its power (and maybe the convoluted evolution method is Eternatus gathering the bits of tablets together to reforge the tablets so it can use them to break the seal).

I think the serpent might be Eturnitus, hope I spelled that right. Galarian Yamask could be a human warrior that died during the darkest day, the stones depicting Eternatus drawing it in, a reminder of what slew it. The Yamask then gets forcibly attached to this rune, which eventually fully enveloping it, turning it into Runeregious, it's anger towards Eternatus consuming it Edit: short and sweet; a human dies during the darkest day, becomes a stoneless Yamask (maybe has a maskat first), still hates Eternatus for killing it, get drawn to a runic stone depicting Eternatus, gets forcibly attached to the stone ( maybe loses it's mask and eventually it's sense of who they were), it's anger eventually consumes it when it's at it's weakest (near fainting at the possible place where they died), the rune merges permanently with it's body leaving only the Yamask's anger, becoming Runeregious.

I think it's still possible that the picture depicts a Dragapult, the Pokedex entry states it's more of a Parasect situation. The painting itself is sentient, cursed in ages past and gaining autonomy upon absorbing the spirit of a Yamask. However given the fact it is a curse painting, that should further inform what we think it is. Eternetus is an ancient dragon that almost brought ruin to Galar so it could be that, that seems curse worthy. I don't think it's unrealistic that one would create a cursed painting of Giratina either. I'm tired so I can't really think of more but I think the important part is that it's head is segmented with a horn or horns at the back of the head.

Personally, I thought the nose of the serpent like drawing on Runerigas looked similar to that of Sandaconda’s nose from side view. And that the circle around Sandaconda’s neck could be a more “recent” feature it had obtained, and in ancient times possibly looked like the back of the serpents head, like it was just starting to wrap around. Also that would kinda make sense based on its typing as Ghost bc of obvious reasons and Ground bc that’s what Sandaconda was when it was alive. I mean why else would it be Ground/Ghost instead of it being actually what it’s made of which is Rock/Ghost. I mean it’s obviously a “rock” that has possessed (or consumed or whatever) a “ghost”. Why is it Ground type instead of Rock type since it, itself is in fact a slab of rock? That’s the real question we need to be asking.

Maybe the corruption of the fossils, creating those abominations causes left over spirit to come together. Maybe the pieces of the runes are also part of the archeology findings that she or a colleague took from the dusty bowl. So after taking some damage and experiencing battle and taking it back to where the rune fragment is from awakens something else inside yanmask and it evolves. grabbing more of the fragments to get stronger and take it's revenge on the careless dr that brought it into the world. but idk, just writing what's popping into my head with no research.

To me dreepy is nothing but the connection between the Dino back fossile and the dead ghost of an ancient pokemon, dreepy itself. Dreepy colours change drastically trough evolution but its back remains gostly, as it lost its legs, evolving in a diffrent pokemon, while in ancient times, dreepy was a monoform, which had strong legs, a big head, a green-red colour palet, and really small arms, as a t-rex actually. Could it be a hidden reference to an old (litteraly) hall dead pokemon?

This is a very far-fetched idea, but I considered the serpent on Runegrigus being a galarian Lugia that is more serpent than bird. Maybe instead of a psychic/flying lugia, it's a ghost/flying. It's because of the face of the rune is similar to the scale thing lugia has around his eyes. And with the galarian trio coming out, I feel it could be fitting that their leader could have been hinted at previously through the runes on Runegrigus.

I think the drawings on the rune stones is the depiction of a spirt of a adult yamask or it could be the the reincarnation of the human turned into demon

Sorry but this theory is nonsense. Runerigius’s Dex entry SAYS it is a cursed painting. Meaning the dragon painting existed before it was possessed. Essentially, the clay slab and the Yamask are separate entities, and the relationship between the two is not the same as that between Unovan Yamask and it’s mask.

...GAME theory!” Sorry, I needed to finish the sentence 😅 lol

This theory seems really interesting, but it doesn't exactly match the Pokedex entries? From Sword, we have, "A clay slab with cursed engravings took possession of a Yamask. The slab is said to be absorbing the Yamask's dark power." This implies that a Yamask, or something very similar to it, latched onto a slab. Or perhaps the slab latched on to Yamask. Runrigus is thus the slab using Yamask's power, which is why the Yamask has to be weakened and brought to an area where the slab is at its strongest.

yeah fair play on that. Might need to rethink

@@BirdKeeperToby Considering wishing stars are made out of Eternatus, like a few people here suggested the ruins where you evolve Yamask could have some ties to him. Or perhaps some other dark legendary that would be malevolent enough to absorb a wandering vengeful spirit.

It still scares me that you can catch human souls in Poké balls and force them to fight for you.

I don't think we can really call Ghost type pokemon some kind of inbetween stage where they are just waiting to fully die. Rather they are treated as a different kind of life that pokemon (and even human) spirits can be reborn into under certain unknown conditions. And once in said life they can in fact die again (as seen in the anime with a dead Mimikyu, and implied in the games with how Alistair is noted to be said to be able to see "deceased" Ghost type pokemon, as opposed to the living Ghost types that everyone can see) and become conventional ghosts (as opposed to Ghost types). Dreepy and Galarian Corsola have thus been reborn as Ghost types and live in the places they lived in their previous lives, but they themselves are not ghosts as they are currently alive again (hence why they eat, sleep and so on like every other living pokemon).

My first thought when. I saw the serpent on runerigus was that it was Dragonair.

So, those runes are linked to a pretty traumatic events. What if this terrible event (The Darkest Night?) caused the extinction of the Dreepy line, and this is a picture of what they used to be before?
