Ive been reading ‘The Republic’ by Plato and I always thought Socrates was just seeking validation from people learning from him, Now when I learn about the Socratic method, you ask not to seek validation or help but to challenge others (and yourself).

We don't have car apologists or air apologists or bird apologists or even medical apologists, makes you think.

@@Georg3e We don't dispute the aforementioned material things because they are parts of our world that are with us every day; the same is not true for the metaphysical as it is just that. But in answer to your question, I'll ask one of my own: why would a true and accurate atheistic belief based on real-world events with historical, scientific & biological backing thanks to overwhelming evidence need an apologist to begin with if it were true? Judging by what you have said in this discussion, I'm assuming that you are either atheist or agnostic, but I'm leaning towards the former; I hate to make assumptions of any kind, but this is the best I have to work with until you tell me otherwise. Anyways, the answer to your question is quite simple; in politics, we know for a fact that there is at least one objectively good answer to a given problem and at least one objectively bad one (i.e. one leads to a nation's being more moral, healthy, rich, intelligent, powerful, etc. and the other leads to its downfall). Why then do we debate? Simple: we disagree on which one is which; sometimes there is evidence that truly does seem to support both policies, sometimes there is deliberate or indeliberate deception involved, but the point remains that there is objective truth regardless of how bad we may be at discovering it. I personally would tend to think that the origins of the universe and the existence or non-existence of metaphysical elements is much more complicated than liberal vs. conservative, wouldn't you? Hence the need for discussion.

Because that's how you keep believing in obviously false things you where most likely indoctrinated into. Atheism is the lack of belief in any god or gods. Agnosticism and atheism aren't mutually exclusive dude, you can be an agnostic theist or a gnostic theist or an agnostic atheist or a gnostic atheist. Wanna know the real answer to my question? It's fake. That's why EVERY religion has apologists, to apologize for the inconsistencies of their religious delusional beliefs that contradicts reality
