Have you ever wondered why time seems to pass differently in certain situations? Well, it turns out, there's a fantastic explanation for it! We'll unravel the space-time continuum and explain how it all ties back to Einstein's theory of special relativity.
Spacing Out with the Museum of Science: • Explore Space with the...
Among the world's largest science centers, the Museum of Science engages millions of people each year to the wonders of science and technology through interactive exhibitions, digital programs, giant screen productions, and preK - 12 EiE® STEM curricula through the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Science Education Center. Established in 1830, the Museum is home to such iconic experiences as the Theater of Electricity, the Charles Hayden Planetarium, and the Mugar Omni Theater. Around the world, the Museum is known for digital experiences such as Mission: Mars on Roblox, and traveling exhibitions such as the Science Behind Pixar. Learn more at www.mos.org/

At 99.99999 percent of the speed of light, for a year, more than 2000 years would pass on Earth. The point is, the closer you get to the speed of light, the more time dilation is experienced.

And due to the fact that gravity is constantly pulling a forced towards itself wouldnt it cause there to be Eddy currents in the flow? Causing perpendicular vortices near the surface of gravitational bodies? (like earth etc) 🧐🤔🤨🤷🏼 (Or am i taking the spacial models of timespace fabric too literally..??)

It’s more of a simplified metaphor. Space is 3 dimensional, like a volume of … space, or inside a container. Comparing it to a fabric allows us to visualize and understand gravity and its effects.

What I hate about all these videos that *try* to explain what space - time is, is that all of them give you the exact same example of the phenomenology of and around it, but none of them actually explain *WHAT IT REALLY IS*

Sorry, you didn't get what is space time! You are talking about time dilation. Between two points In space, there is two intervels, one intervel in space, that we measures as length and the other is intervel in time, that the time it take to cover the spatial distance. Based on the velocity of light it becomes one intervel in space time. Then in the infinity it is defined as four dimensional space time continuum.

Ok that is known. High speed space, slow speed time. Relative. But what if you move quickly in time as if it was a space dimension? Would you still move through space relative to you? Like we have no choice to travel through time as it is a consequence of moving through space, would it even make a difference if you reversed it?

A lot of people believe it is quantized, ie, there may be no gaps, but there are discrete pixels, which might negate the word continuum. No one knows for sure tho.

I find this insane, but very interesting. Why does gravity make us age differently?

It’s not gravity it’s your position and relative speed in space time

@@LordBlackVideo But it must have something to do with mass, and gravity, or position wouldn't matter.

@@vmwindustriesIt's not about position, it's about speed, the faster you move, the slower time passes for you.

Gravity can make you age differently because mass bends spacetime itself. "Space tells mass how to move, and mass tells space how to curve" A strong gravitational field will stretch spacetime itself. If you're in it, everything feels normal. But an observer would see you moving extremely slowly because your clocks tick at different rates

It's speed and gravity. Approaching C, time slows to a stop. Fun fact, the pyramids are so massive they create a small amount of gravity, and that gravity is enough to measurably slow down time near them. Extremely small amount, but measured with atomic clocks.

Question... how does the space traveling twin's age vary based on route? Option 1: accelerate str8 line from Earth to Proxima Centauri (for example), decelerate to a stop @ Proxima, reaccelerate back toward Earth, & decelerate to land back home. Option 2: Accelerate away from earth in a big circular path, continue accelerating in a sweep past Proxima, only decelerating once to land safely home on Earth... does option 2 generate the slowest aging?

isn’t space expanding very fast so that hypothesis might b wrong or just not as much as u think, depends on speed of the expanding universe compared to speed of light ?

I have a question about our sun. I believe you are not correct about the age of the sun. It seems to be so much brighter than I was a kid. So I travelled all over the world and and all elders agree .

Thank you Madam for that excellent explanation. Has it been observed in a laboratory that biological tissue ages/degenerates slower when kept in a container that is moving at a very fast speed vs one that is stationary. If so, could you please discuss it? Have we arrived at a why this happens - or do we just accept it as an exogenous phenomenon?

Based on the exam it does not seem like a space time continuum but a speed continuum. It did not matter where the sister went to in space, all that mattered was that she moved at the SPEED of light for a year.

Yes but it’s impossible to separate speed from space so space time is the most fundamental form of saying that Also if you take your idea one step further it’s actually about energy which is why being around massive objects slows time

This is little more than a string of statements. There is no actual entity that is time - man invented it for his own purposes and it is very useful no doubt about that. Apart from simply dividing up our day by using a clock, time is a way of describing our reality - the now if you like. Since there is only one now, there is only one 'time'. Oh and you age because of your environment and behaviours - 'time' is not involved.

It's been tested with very precise clocks. One was left stationary while the other was put into a fighter jet and flown around for some time. The moved clock ended up being behind the not moving clock after they were united again.

Uhm why? The fact that you’re actually hung up on the twins part kinda makes me think even if it was tested exactly like this you still wouldn’t understand that much
