I have loved this song so much because of its humility. I haven't been to the Baptist church in 35 years...Do they play this song for the altar call sometimes? I wonder if my love for the song goes back to those early childhood church memories. Great song and a great playlist!

I heard another story ..same thing but when he kneeling down and the pastor was talking...the song playing In church was help me ....and thats where he got the idea of why me lord

I was hoping for a bit more info. I was around 10 years old when he did a concert in Roanoke, Va where I lived at the time and my mom was deeply religious and took us to his concert where we were seated along with others from our church. I don't remember what songs he sang before we left because I was unfamiliar with his music other than Why Me Lord but I do remember before one of his songs he said, in what I gather from my mom's reaction was a sarcastic tone, "This is for all the christians in the room". I assumed he was going to do Why Me Lord then but he didn't and we left shortly after that. I've been curious about his perspective on the song and why he really wrote it and what he thought of the various groups who loved it since then.

Check Google. There are articles there that you might find what you are looking for. He had a happening/spiritual experience/awakening... along with the openness at that moment that allowed him to see and feel those words. At least that is what it means to me.

This guy did not tell the whole story and the minister did not speak to Kris. The minister's words spoke to him (the Holy Spirit) and he was saved that day. That doesn't mean he lived for Christ from there on out, but he was saved.
