Touhou is one of the biggest doujin series' of the world. It is also as old as pokemon so there is that. It is primarily a bullet hell game but it does have fighting games too, and whatever fan games that fans made as well (thousands of games by fans tbh) and a few canon manga, no canon anime though. Touhou is made buy Zun, the sole creator of the series. This video is a parody of touhou 6, where remillia, the vampire who used donuts here, blocked out the sky with red mist, and reimu (shrine maiden) and Marisa (human magician/witch) go and tell remillia and her mansion residents to stop the mist.

The Touhou series. Started 1997 with Touhou 1 Highly Responsive to Prayers and has since grown into quite possibly the biggest rabbit hole on the internet. A fundamental distinction to make is between the official content, consisting of games made by ZUN and a few print works he approved, and the fan made content derived from it with hundreds of thousands of works in every medium you can imagine. Thanks to ZUN's incredibly lax copyright policy, Touhou has one of the strongest fandoms capable of producing its own anime and games better than most official agencies do. While embodying meme culture at the same time. Another part of the charm is that ZUN provides basic description for ever character while also hinting at a lore deeper than the ocean, leaving plenty of room for fans to craft their own interpretation of the world. Thus it's a fanfiction powerhouse. Everything can be done, from lighthearted comedy to plot heavy drama, from horror to detective stories and psychological novels. Oh and did I mention the cast is all-female ? yeah it's also #1 in r34 content. Another another important part of the series is the soundtrack. ZUN happens to be a genius composer, and you can go hear 'Idolatrize World' right now knowing that he did hundreds of ost that good. By extension this means every remix youtuber worth the name has done some Touhou (remember the copyright policy ?). Finally, being an old series it was heavily tied to the early internet as a flagship of sorts. In relative terms, it peaked in the late 2000s (at which time it was virtually inescapable) well before the anime boom of the past few years. Mind, it's still alive and well, just that many newcomers are unaware of it. Thus, "If you haven't heard of Touhou, means you haven't been on the internet for long enough"

For in a nutshell video you can react to without having to watch a lore video. You can start with watching a FAN MADE anime called "memories of phantasm" made by manpukujinja. You can find translated episodes in a channel name "the OVJM" on youtube. There is currently 16 episode with episode 17 will probably be the last since the group working on it is probably stopping production. I will suggest more videos if you decided to react to more. But for now, this will be it. NOTE: don't worry too much about copyright for the anime (it is FAN MADE), and if you are that worry just silence the video. The anime that i suggested is not 100% canon since there are a lot of fanon interpretation and theories on the series because spoiling the ending is illegal in fanworks.

This animation somewhat expects the viewer to know something about the characters and universe, so I'm not suprised you were confused. Since most of the humor comes from the characters, here's some exceedingly long context. In order of appearance, Reimu Hakurei - the first of two main protagonists, she's a human miko/shrine maiden. Her job in Gensokyo is to keep Youkai (monsters) in check and basically be a psuedo-police officer. In this game, she notices the red fog coming from the Scarlet Devil Mansion and goes to investigate. Although hotheaded and quick to start fights, she's not nearly as aggressive and borderline muderous as in this animation, it's played up for laughs. Marisa Kirisame - the second of the two main characters, she's a self-proclaimed Ordinary Magician. She is Reimu's best friend and is human like Reimu, but her magic is not divine and handed to her by a god, she put in the work to learn it herself. She's the "Funny Man" part of the duo, she's more outgoing, friendly, and chaotic than Reimu's "Straight Man" persona. Rumia - The first Youkai character. She looks small and goofy, but is actually a murderous creature of darkness who loves to devour people. Thankfully, her weak abilities and stupidity make her fairly terrible at this. Daiyousei - Originally a nameless character, her popularity made her into a psuedo-canon character. She's encountered in the same stages as Cirno, which is why she gets shoved out of the way. Cirno - Contary to Daiyousei, Cirno is a reocurring and fan favorite character. She's a hyperactive yet stupid ice Fairy. Although strong for a fairy, she's weaker than almost every other character and believes she's much more powerful than she actually is. Meiling Hong - A Chinese Youkai (though what species she is exactly isn't known). She serves as the gate guard for the mansion. She's friendly and kind, but isn't nearly as incompetent at her job as the animation suggests, which is played up for laughs. The only character she can't stop from consistently breaking in is Marisa. Patchouli Knowledge - A Youkai who lives at the Mansion due to her friendship with Remilia. She's a magician by species, as opposed to Marisa who is one by trade. She's physically frail and sickly, but her magical abilities are insanely powerful. Marisa often breaks into the Library to borrow books and not give them back, but the two of them actually are on mostly okay terms. Sakuya Izayoi - The maid of the mansion. She is assumed to be human, but there are many things about her that don't add up; she doesn't age, her eyes glow red when using her powers, she serves and is friends with monsters, and she can stop time, which in this franchise is unique to her. She's calm, proper, and sometimes severe. Despite her intimidating demeanor and scary abilities, she's fairly amicable most and doesn't often become legitimately angry. The animation portrays her as psychotic killer for laughs once again. In later games, Sakuya is often a playable character and is part of a secondary main character duo of sorts, along with a character introduced in the next game. Sanae Kochiya - The cameo character who is told to leave the shrine. She's a major reoccurring character, but only became so fairly recently (Touhou 12), as opposed to the other four major protagonists (Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, and the character from the next game, Youmu) who have been around for most of the franchise. She's a shrine maiden like Reimu, and is cheerful, outgoing, and friendly. Jun'ya "ZUN" Ota - The second cameo character who tells Sanae to leave. The creator of the franchise. He was added to the animation as a 4th-wall-breaking joke. He designs the games by himself and likes beer. Remilia Scarlet - A vampire and the titular "Scarlet Devil". She's very powerful, but childish and spoiled. She owns the Mansion and is sort of Archrivals with Reimu, as their magic powers are opposites (Remilia can manipulate Fate and Reimu has borderline Divine Intervention good luck. Sort of an "unstoppable force/immovable object shtick). Her plan in this game is to put red mist over Gensokyo so she won't burn in the sunlight. Despite being the antagonist of this game, neither she nor any of her subjects are evil, and they all end up on good terms by the later games (though there is still a lot of rivalry between them). Flandre Scarlet - Remilia's younger sister. She has the power to destroy almost anything, and the childish mentality to use it without thinking. She's still somewhat unhinged, but in reality is not as muderous as the fanbase often depicts her. She is not allowed to leave the mansion under any circumstances, due to the damage she could possibly cause. The characters depicted in the post-credits scene are obviously Reimu and Marisa, but more accurate to their real personalities and appearances. It looks like they found Sr Pelo' animation and head off to the Mansion to show the other characters.

@Artemis Arrow The way things tend to happen with Touhou reactions is when people react to content; the comments will have people explaining things about the characters the setting and the way the world works. The more you react the more you'll learn about the world of Touhou. So to start us off let's go with a classic request: Touhou 3D Reimu vs Remilia by minusT. This is minusT's first video, Minus T is our most gifted animator within our community, and his animation skills improve greatly with each video. I believe there are like 9 videos at this moment. The Touhou community is a bottomless well of content. Should you dive into it; there's no end to the amount of content made by very talented individuals: fan-made music/MV's, animations, stories, we have something for everyone. Lastly the vast majority of the Touhou community is OK with reactions, so you shouldn't have to worry about copyright. Just leave a link to the original video in the description.
