You’d think instead of a single volume movie recap. They’d do 3 volumes not just to flesh out the story, but to make a lil more cash for their flopping manga company
@moonbunny249 ай бұрын
It's because the original manga was published in Japanese in 2011 by Shogakukan, who seem to have been doing perfectly fine at the time. Tokyo Pop just licensed it to be translated six years later.

STOP KILALA WAS MY WHOLE CHILDHOOD- I THOUGHT IT WAS A FEVER DREAM
@starflower25839 ай бұрын
The disdain the Snuggly Duckling gang had for Eugine's dream was one of my favorite things in the movie. Like they are ruffians and criminals and all, but they know that that crap doesn't bring happiness. All their dreams and hobbies are careers in music, crafts, finding love and a family. And later Eugine turns from his selfish dream has a new dream to simply be with Rapunzel and sacrifices himself for her. Shame they cut that out of the manga.

Okay. Picture this. You are homeschooled and feeling kind of isolated. You've got long blonde hair that desperately needs to be chopped short. It's your 12 birthday and you're going to pick up your paint pallette themed cake that you picked out because it came with free chalk in the topper, but first you've got to make it to your birthday movie. You haven't been following it too closely, outside of the promotional stuff on Disney Channel. You get in there and find out that the movie centers around Rapunzel's birthday. Because that was my experience and I don't think anything more coincidental will ever happen to me. I also wanted to be (and also still want to be) Rapunzel for years after that because for one magical hour and a half, it felt like I WAS her. Like they had made this Disney Princess just for me. I also had an awful friend I'd broken ties with in a recent move who acted so much like Gothel it was scary but let's not talk about that part!

Thanks to you, I have fallen down the hole of not only Disney adaptations in manga, but also classical stories as well. Although there's no scans of them online, I was hoping you could continue this and cover other "classics" that exist: I actually have a physical copy of a manga adaptation of Pride and Prejudice by an artist named Po Tse. Nice video, I hope you keep this up!

the tv show really does a lot to explore Flynn/Eugene's more vulnerable side, it's probably the most well rounded prince so far te gezundheid joke got translated in a nice way in french dub, it played with the fact that Raiponce (the french for rapunzel) sounds just like Réponse (answer) that could be used colloquially and ask for a quick answer, and flynn responds with "alright, i'll answer"

You know what is so weird about the 6,000 line? It's the same number they have her sing in the cruise show in her little intro before When Will My Life Begin: "Just 24 hours til my birthday One day til the day I'm eighteen A day which I guess will be spent more or less Like the other six thousand I've seen"

If you ever get another sticker situation like that again - rubbing alcohol will get rid of the residue just dab it on with a cotton swab and carefully peel it off ! Manga usually has that glossy cover over their covers to protect it so it shouldn’t cause any damage to the cover ! Love the solution you came up with- at least no one will ever steal it lmao XD

I wish japan can make more mangas based on western movies. Like way back in 2014, i actually used to draw some manga style drawings based on one of my most favorite animated movies The Book Of Life. I was like "i wonder how a book of life manga would look like", so i just decided to draw them, and for some reason i would draw them in the sailor moon manga style cuz i always loved that art style 😆 As of today, i don't know where i have those drawings, so hopefully i can find them 😊

First time viewers and I really enjoy it. Also another note of Tokyo Pop from the video I watch that explains the downfall of Tokyo Pop. They treated their indie comic artist kinda terribly since they put them in very predatory contracts and etc. Sorry for the rambling. Keep up the amazing work.

I think the 6000 years bit is supposed to be a rounded estimation instead of actually significant. Also with some of the weird things are probably from adapting it into Japanese in a new format and then sort of reverse adapting it back to the source material. Of course, I can't be ENTIRELY certain that's the case because I'd need a Japanese copy of the manga at the very least to see if it says anything different, but I have this gut feeling that the script might have been a little more adaptational in the original version.
@benraven90879 ай бұрын
If you want to see a manga adaptation that looked at its source material and went "nah, imma do my own thing," look up the Big Hero 6 manga. It's a trip.

Yes they did. Tokyopop in North America is a shell of its former self. It is a dumping ground for lots of Disney manga adaptions now.
