Mental Illnesses stories done by Japanese are not praised in there, since there hasn't been much social progress about mental awareness. If you look at Hideaki Anno, he doesn't feel accomplished or positive about Evangelion, even if his works touched people's lives for the better in most cases.

This game just has a weird feel to it. The sheer EMPTINESS of it. The fact that her WHOLE LIFE meant nothing, and it never will. If this never happened, there would be no difference. In most games, there are people who care about the main character. In most games, there are people who'll be affected by the main characters death. But not this game. In this game, her life is "lived" in an apartment room, with only her own mind to make up demented worlds to pass time, until she realizes that she is bored of life. She's tired of having to be interrupted by waking up in her real boring old room, so she finally wakes herself up.

The longer I'm alive, the more I remember that someday I wont be alive and my existence will be a memory like many others. I always worry that something that I say or do is gonna "be incorrect" or "look stupid", but what do I really mean by that? I act like being flawed is bad, but at the same time, I know how much it doesn't matter, so why do I put s much subconscious effort into thinking about what others think about me? on a different day, I probably wouldn't even be writing this. I'd be all like "stop being annoying" and then go watch a Death Battle video or something. But how much can being myself really hurt someone? This chronic fear I have of being annoying affects every single thing that I do, and for what? Self defense? I've already BEEN annoying. In fact, I'm being annoying RIGHT NOW. So maybe it's just too hard for me to comprehend how cool I am. Also wow this game came out on my birth year, that's pretty neat

I always loved the thought of a melancholy moment of finding peace in death, this is such a great theory. The basic idea of Madotsuki being a hikikomori is obvious given the time period the game was made and that you can't leave her apartment while awake, but the human mind especially someone who's not in the best mental state like Mado probably is the best part of all of this. She's aware she's in a perpetual state of a lucid dream and even when she's free in her dreams she's still just as trapped as if she were awake.

I had a period in which I felt like sh`t because of the fact that I, everyone I know and everything I know will end, cease and perrish. But now this doesn't give me a vibe like this - it's more of something comforting, warmly-accepting and enveloping. Like a cozy bed after a loooong loooong tiring day. ~ Hello, bed! Seems like it's about time for me to have a goooood nap Although you don't wake up from this nap, yeaah (actually, hard to tell as to nobody knows this!) Have no idea if this reply is gonna comfort you in any way but I just calmed myself as I wrote it. Now I wanna try writing stuff down every morning or evening for 20 mins or so. Guess it helps me have my marbles together ~ I really hope you will eventually be okay living when knowing that everything will disappear. Death is inevitable, but I know that when I die, whatever I wanted to do or whatever has concerned me in life won't matter, because it wasn't meant to be. I think an acceptance of things being in control and necessary events happening is a large stepping stone to accepting every bitter thing that happens to us. Even if it hurts,even if we cry, things are as they should be, and we should always be appreciative of the things we already have, knowing they too may leave some day. But in the end everything has a purpose and, if you'll accept it in your heart, a God to believe in that already has things figured out. Once you're saved you truly just need to live life, do what's right, and when your time comes, there's no need to worry about whatever you may have "missed", where you're going is far better and it was your time to go anyway, nothing to worry about

I happen to hold a reverse-trans-humanist view on longevity; I think mortality might be something that is better than immortality. Lady in video mentioned subjective view of what one wants to be; similarly, the way people view the world and experience the world is different(phenomenology). Often, many people are more subjectively more optimistic in viewing the world, but naturally, the world is much more cruel. There are also many who are tired and prefer rest over anything else. That does not mean we should be devoid of hope, but its just better to know there's a limit to suffering as there is to joy; so the moral of the story is to live a life where you are enjoying each day, or at least try. Revel in the fact that suffering will end, and revel in the fact that you lived and can enjoy life. For the older people who lost their anchor to this world and feels overwhelmed/just waiting for death, maybe take a walk sometimes, enjoy the view and appreciate the beauty of the world. Try new things, talk to people etc.

Your voice is lovely! I adore this analysis of Yume Nikki because somehow after all these years, I never considered the concept of it. It's melancholic but also gives this relief? Knowing she finally accepts what happened and finds peace? Even if it's just a theory I really like that. Dreams have always been an ethereal experience yet on occasion that it is terrifying, it stays when you wake up. But the loneliness is always there. The entire playthrough of Yume Nikki is so unique because there is no dialogue, it's just wandering through a dream world. It's lonely. I believe that the game is intentionally made to feel that way. So I'd like to know that Madotsuki can find relief in that loneliness. To accept it and be at peace with it, despite the imperfections and pains of life. That the beauty and simple joys of life are made priceless by the fleeting nature of it. That it's all okay. I really like that. Great video!

I'm glad I watched this video. Didn't think I would actually agree with a different view on the game, in 2023. But it's like everything clicks now. Everything suddenly makes sense. The fact that Madotsuki doesn't eat, the fact that the stairs seem to magically appear there, the fact that despite Kikiyama describing it as a "warm-hearted game" the only ending available is to jump off... but even the YNDD adaptation's "good ending" seems to make more sense. Although you see Mado walk back into the world and come out of her confinement, the framing makes it look like she's entering the afterlife, you know, "walking into the light". Plus, every time the shadow gets you, or any chaser for that matter, your punishment is to either be trapped or sent back to an earlier position, thus preventing you from "moving on".

A small correction. You being the snowman and going to bed has no baring on if you go to that deeper dream. It's a random chance for any of the five beds including the one in your room (only one of the beds in the numbers world works I think) that dictates you going to that world. You don't have to have any effects equipped at all to get it work, and actually in a recent playthrough I went to sleep and then went into her bedrooom bed on my first run and got to that world. So you don't need to use the snowman at all.
@kerophibian2 жыл бұрын
The multiple beds that can lead to this location is talked about at 4:06. At 7:49 the snowman is mentioned because it’s relevant to the event that was being analyzed, Melting Madotsuki, and one of the possible ways to trigger it.
@KalinTheZola2 жыл бұрын
@@kerophibian "If you happen to sleep in the bed as a snowman, there's a random chance it will transport to you a staircase that leads you down into a hallway" This is the part I have issues with because the implication is that the hat and scarf effect have anything to do with your chances of going to the staircase with the hallway. I'm willing to believe this was misspoken and they simply meant "There a chance the bed will take you there and the snowman has this effect in this location" but that isn't at all how that phrasing comes across and could have been better expressed.

really great theory, always love looking at recent uploads and ideas of this game and other people’s perspective of its narrative, i for one didnt grow up with this game, played in back in 2020 and yet its probably in my top 10 favorite video games, you make a lot of interesting points and your editor did a fantastic job with the visualization. If your an animator i applaud your little short segments during the video too. As you said in the beginning of the video not to critic your theory which I wont, its a very beautifully thought one. Heres just some stuff I found out about the game Poniko has a correlation with Uboa: Its kinda obvious she does but its likely there are the same person or another perception on Poniko as lf she’s killed and the event triggered Uboa will not be seen. However one fun fact a lot of fans may not know is that Uboa wasn’t even an event prior to version 0.10 as its not in 0.4 version and the pink sea has a completely different change (i recommend looking into the original maps or song bgms before they were pitched down and mixed its very interesting hearing stuff like number world or stairs to sky garden) As for the ending anything is up for interpretation and people see the jellyfish as a flower signifying death but a great video by Seagen Hawkes believes Kikyama but the stairs there as for people who just wanted a goal when playing the game which was collect all effects however kikiyama encourages people to keep looking and finding them so the ending could be intentional. Lastly I love your bit about mars and how it may be the most isolated area in the game never thought of it as that and that just makes me love that area so much more, I do wish you tackled mars-san or the ufos Madotsuki gets when using the cat effect (maybe shes calling out for help? Here's the full lore behind the game, and it's actually confirmed: She's not conscious, she's still in her mother's womb, both of them are sharing the same dreams and that's why the mother could be seen in the manga saying "I've promised to give birth, and when I do...I'll finally hear your cries, your voice for the first time..and say good morning" Because the mother already met her baby (which is Madotsuki) but only in her dreams without even hearing her voice, and that's why Madotsuki can't get out of her room, She Only will get out when her mother gives birth, which means Madotsuki's apartment represensts her mother's belly. Also the video game (the red console) that could be played next to the tv, represents the baby eating his mom's left overs. That's why a red creature looking exactly like a new born could be seen eating certain stuff falling from above. And btw the mom wasn't assaulted at all she was just lustful, and all that was confirmed in the manga. Madotsuki didn't die at all, she's just unborn. And that's why tons of reproductive organs are seen throughout the game, It's the only piece of reality that Madotsuki could see. Also, Madotsuki's eyes in the game are shut, because her mother is still in early pregnancy, the unborn child had already experienced depression without even opening their Eyes throughout it's mother's dreams and memories. And btw, yall guessed it right..the Mom's name is Poniko, she's the girl with the blonde appearance. That we'll eventually meet half way through the story. That's basically the story, Madotsuki didn't die or anything like that, she's just waiting for her birth, and while doing so, she's reliving memories...

Kikiyama stating the visions we see are meant to be 'comforting' ties into the Buddhist concept of a Wrathful deity, which is the embodiment of an otherwise peaceful being which takes on a fierce disposition to drive out worldly desires and severing the soul from the material world, essentially cleansing it. Whether the visions both Maddie and Jacob see are angels or devils depends on perspective. The visions necessarily have to be wrathful or threatening because that is part of the soul purification process.

Death Acceptance? :? Hmm... never heard of that before surprisingly, but not entirely unexpected. :p Oh shit, that reminds, I always wondered if Uboa was some type of youkai or something, given that Noh Face from Spirited Away and Arakune from Blazblue and so on have similar vibes, a dark shadow with a white mask, or something. :p Seriously, what's up with that? :? Sigh... if it's a youkai, I really want to know the name of it. :p

Accepting death is dumb. Why? Because it doesnt need you to accept it. It will come regardless. And that discomfort is the only comfort I draw from the idea. So some rpg maker game isnt gonna really shake my foundations on that. Personafying death also I feel is the biggest cope, and I feel is a dumb way to accept death. Accept it, or kick and scream. It will come regardless. thats cool

not to be that guy, but the "main character is akshually asleep/in a coma/already dead" theories are always so lazy, they are literally aplicable to every piece of media in which something strange happens at any point in the story
