Been working on triad pairs for a while. I really like that you try to describe some of the different combos. For me, trying to fit them into a standard without a static harmony place is challenging.

Thank you very much indeed. This is my main comping technique. Ask yourself which major or minor chords fit on top of an F7 (LH: F/A/Eb). I suggest B minor or major, Ab minor or major, C minor, D minor or major, etc.

Hi! The Satie's scale is also used by Allan Holdsworth. I believe he would think of it as a melodic minor with a sharp 4th. There's a whole section based on that scale on "Letters of Marque", over an E pedal.

To see an impressionist painting in a jazz video feels anti-nature, but, in a way, reveals a different view of the paintings.

I've been pretty much a life long guitar player and only now learning to read notes. Chord charts were never a problem but learning to read notes are a totally new challenge. That said, I can't help wonder if your music staff (at 6:50 min) is missing a note. Maybe an F#? I absolutely love your lessons! Much mahalo!

From the last video, I thought that it had to do with the implied mode given by adjacent chords, but I noticed that sometimes the drone would either contradict the chord-scale or directly contradict a chord (like a I-II/i; I and i couldn't belong to the same scale). I was thinking maybe they could imply something like h-W/W-h diminished, but that'd mean there'd be no major chords.

Hi, i really like your setup. Are these triads also written for alto sax?
@bubblevest15443 жыл бұрын
I have purchased 3 of your courses and have opened up my creativity. Thanks Am I right to assume that some of the triads don’t necessarily have to be part of the diatonic scale of the root?
@jamescronin14863 жыл бұрын
It's OK to have some non-diatonic triads as it adds to the color and makes it more interesting.
@JazzDuets3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The triads don’thave to be part of the diatonic scale, for instance C minor and D major triads over C minor
@maja4236 Жыл бұрын
@@JazzDuets thanks for replying to this. My knowledge of a music theory is not very good, but I was wondering how come C minor and D minor triads fit C minor diatonic scale, but now I think I got it

If you think about it scales and chords are on and the same. Just a different expression but the same mechanisms. These triad pairs could be looked at fragments of chord/scale played over a differing chord/scale. Right?
@calcal51353 жыл бұрын
Triad pairs are fun to experiment with and use over a one chord vamp but what about over standard jazz changes in which no chord typically is played for more than one measure? Do you have time to use triad pairs in that context? I ask because I would like to make use of them over changes but presently I am only hearing them as useful when a chord lasts two measures or more.
@thelonious-dx9vi3 жыл бұрын
One way to start is just pick a pair that contain all in-key notes -- say, Dm and Em, basically ii and iii in C. Those two triads spell a rootless C scale, and will work anywhere you play that scale or any of its modes. Or parallel "IV-V" major triads, those are scale-tones-only too. Or I II majors makes it lydian, by raising the third in the II. Play around with those pairs straight through some ii-V-I's in C, just treating the notes as scale tones, and see how it sounds. I still sound like, when I'm playing with triad pairs, like I'm ... playing with triad pairs. I hear the same thing with a lot of players. I'll keep at it though.

How do you select the triad to pair in your examples? You are using 3-b, so it is "e-flat major" scale or "c minor" scale - then you are using G-chord and F-chord for your example (time 3:00) - but there is no G-chord or F-Chord in this scale, why are you selecting these chords instead of Gm-chord or Fm-chord?

Could you explain more about how you decided that "Thesaurus" is the proper title for this information?

That makes me laugh , your use of the word "proper" If you saw the contents of the book you would understand

Cool. But why call the Cmin, Bbmaj pair an aeolian sound when the A/Ab is omitted? The whole point of that pair is that it’s ambiguous between Aeolian and Dorian, right?
@JazzDuets3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if the whole point of the pair is that it is ambiguous. The point of the pair for me is that it evokes a Tender, Solemn, Beautiful soundscape/feeling in the player and listener

Watching long videos for extracting what you can grasp in One tenth of the time by reading? Not to mention having to scroll back and forth using a flärd interface instead of your eyes? Not what i call the future of learning. I encountered the same sales pitches for video courses decades ago and they still suck. A pity you choose to package your otherwise excellent material that way
