Headcannon: the trial chambers despite their modern apperance are one of the oldest structures in the timeline of the game, the reason why they arent in ruin is because the spawners are sentient and summon mobs that maintain the structure by repairing any cracks in the tuff walls or scraping off oxidised copper in undesirable parts of the rooms(and also re-waxing it when the wax fades away) when people dont enter it for an incrediby long period of time

This theory really makes sense, however I think that from the theories I've seen I would say that the ancients worshiped death, in Minecraft Dungeons it is said that there was a nameless kingdom, its empire was vast and its King was a necromancer. It makes sense to think that they constructed this as a form of training for soldiers or a type of trial.

I like your theory! But I have a bit of an expanaion on it: Trial Chambers have a lot of similarities with Gale Sanctum from Howling Peaks DLC. Both structures have wind magic, have the same "two spirals" imagery, both use tuff, and both are to give a challenge to anyone who enters(the Sanctum has an extra mission called "Gauntlet of Gales", where the main objective is to "pass the tests"). However, the Sanctum has some extra things that show the authors of the structure - there is a lot of illager imagery: statues, reliefs etc. Considering that illagers are the ones who love fights and hate weak ones(as proven by Dungeons prequel novel), it is logical to assume that the ancestors of illagers built the Chambers as well. Especially, with the fact the most frequent weapons you can find in vaults are axes and crossbows, the weapons of Vindicators and Pillagers. But, the illagers didn't build these structures on their own - the Sanctums partially have asian architecture similar to the one of the End, and among reliefs there is eye imagery, another clear sign of the End. And Squall Golems have purple eyes and hands resembling the ones of an Endersent. Trial Chambers also have small amount of End influence - trial spawner's summon sound has clear Ender teleport 'whoop' in it, and certain chests contain Ender pearls. So, it's likely that the ancestors of illagers were in truce with End for some time. TLDR: Trial Chambers are built by the ancestors of illagers with the help of End citizens, as proven by certain details found in Minecraft Dungeons
@The_Dandalorian5 ай бұрын
I think that a great theory, I personally think that the illagers might have moved into the gale sanctum, after it was already built, and helped with the upkeep. I think there is probably a connection between the trial chamber and gale sanctum, too.
@danielloewen28575 ай бұрын
That's why I don't think humanity became endermen, there's way too many examples of them having corresponded with one another
@tapgames34654 ай бұрын
I think its both the illagers and the villagers who built the sanctum because of the golems. Illagers never built golems and instead prefer magic compared to the defenseless villagers that prefered building golems to defend their cities. You also forgot the lingering potions that trial chambers has for the end and an end portal frame in the gale sanctum further solidifying the end and trial chambers
@NitFlickwick8 күн бұрын
The thing that confuses me most is the trident. Why are there tridents in the chambers? There is some connection between Illagers, drowned, and endermen in the trial chambers.

i love the idea of the Trail Chambers being used to weed out the weak. It is so vile and fucked up but it makes the Ancients into true villains, it's the raw and harsh reality of what people's worst traits can lead to. the disc Creator reflects this perfectly.
@TCMCGMB5 ай бұрын
I think they built it to keep the heavy core safe in vaults, and thats why there is a lot of traps and mobs. They probably knew what the mace could do so they didnt want to destroy but not let it go in to other beings hands.
@justarandomperson9593 ай бұрын
I've always had the theory that spawners were a sort of scorched-earth policy, a way to prevent something else from using the ancients' resources (bastions, nether fortresses, etc). they always seemed kind of like a deterrent rather than guarding something. This leads me to think the trail chambers are a test or experiment (hence "trial") kind of like the maze in Maze Runner. It serves as a trial to unlock tools that make conquering the rest of the dungeons easier. it seems like a way to prove yourself worthy of inheriting the ancients' stuff. in this way, the chamber itself is a living thing, or some kind of self-sufficient machine, hence why it's still intact, built by the ancients who maybe knew they were doomed to mark when civilization developed enough to continue their journey.

this is a really good and thought out theory, and makes so much more sense when you even think about the ancient city and how bad it even got there.. with the amount of death and repeated history (much like real life history, it repeats) thanks for the awesome theory!
@danielloewen28575 ай бұрын
Interesting theory! It can use improvements, but the again I'm no expert. Here's my two cents: 1. Yes, the devs have confirmed that the trial chambers are pretty young on the timeline 2. If I'm not wrong they also confirmed that both dungeons and legends are canon to vanilla, and that they happened before 3. I believe the dungeons were built as tombs, ecplaining the loot chests(they're coffins) 4. I never thought that the spawners ran on souls! That actually makes a lot of sense 5. My theory is that the trial chambers were inspired by The Tower from dungeons and built by the same civilization as the gale sanctum, both from dungeons.

Blocks like tuff and copper have no cracked or mossy varients so by how othere blocks go, these materials for trial chambers are very good at lasting a long time, the only damage can be the copper oxidising which aswell seems to be abart of the design too so the trial chanmber could very well be a old structure but its probably down to speculation as to weather these are old or most recent structures but could also explain how the stronghold is the most recent structure built by the ancient builders (ancients) thats my take though, plus i totally agree with you with the trial chambers purpose
@CreativelyJake5 ай бұрын
i think you make some interesting points on the perhaps sinister design of these chambers, and i also agree that spawners are... complicated. its weird how like... are the undead just, dead people given life? is it a form of necromancy? or are they... like. was every undead mob once a living person? because that would mean unlimited dead people are in normal spawners... either way ill say this: i believe the ominous trials are a side effect of the spawners going haywire due to the trapped souls frenzying at the presence of someone with a bad omen alternatively it couldve been expected for that to happen, and they used it as a way to ward off any foul intruders. a security system for filtering out bad vibes, if you will.

We learn in Minecraft Legends that mobs were supposed to aid the Iron Golems in protecting Villagers, given to them by the three gods of Minecraft, Action, Knowledge, and Foresight. so it's likely that the spawners were created by the Ancients back during a time when mobs were still an allied force, rather than a hostile faction.
