What is the trick to getting very fine sediment out of bottom of pool

While pool cleaners do a pretty good job, they still leave a fine sediment behind. This can be very frustrating because the sediment is stirred up every time you put the cleaner back into the pool. This video shows you a trick(with a certain vacuum) modification to get this up.

My husband tried this and it absolutely works! He also put a mesh sock over the paper towel and it was even amazing. The fine dirt went into the paper towel. The filter was left totally clean. Thank you so much.

Thank you for posting this. Last two years I have been going crazy trying to figure out how to get rid of this. The pool store misguided me and made me believe this was mustard algae and I spent a ton of money in chemicals with no result. Your solution works like a charm no more dusty pool

Thank you! This is a necessary modification for vacuuming pools to avoid the dust cloud that happens otherwise! The fine dust is not caught by most filters supplied with pool vacuums.

I bought the pool blaster and did the paper towel trick and it did work great. A crazy thought had just crossed my mind, my pool is a small Intex above ground. The pump filter is the small paper pleated Intex ones. I am going to try and do one or so layer of paper towel around the outside of the pump filter, then sweep the sides and bottoms and let it run for a couple hours and see if it collects all the algae dust stuff out of the pool.

I was going out of my mind trying to vacuum up silt at the bottom of our pool. Tried every kind of filter on top of my pool blaster’s cone... skimmer socks etc. Paper towels! What a quick and easy solution! Worked for me too!

I tried the paper around cone filter Today on my pool blaster, and YES IT WORK real good. It look like slimmy green blueish debris stuck to paper towels. Thank You Beats pumping gallons of water out on waste. This will do the same for algea.

I happened across this video. I have one of those little vacuums, and I discovered this trick by accident last year, while being lazy and not feeling like setting up the regular pool vac. It worked remarkably well. I was surprised to see a professional doing it. I feel like a pro hahahaha.

Thanks for this video. I was having trouble with getting rid of dead algae on the bottom of my pool. From your video, I realized it was important to have something that could move slow and that fine granules could not go through. I decided to try a homemade solution that works! I sewed shut the bottom of an old nylon half slip to fit into my pool net. The elastic waistband kept it easily in place. I was able to clean out all the dead algae and then remove the slip and wash it out.

Very helpful vid Steve, I'm gonna try it in my pool where I bought the wrong SHOCK treatment and it not only DIDNT clear the algae but CREATED a massive amount of gunk at the bottom of my pool. My filter couldnt handle it. Suggestion was to drain pool, no way was I going to do that! I'll use the paper towels too. I'm on my way to buy a Ivac M3 locally in Jax,FL.

Well thank you!!! Finally I've found a You Tube video that REALLY helped me! Started having some trouble with algae dust, then found this. I have a similar version on the Pool Blaster, but ht dust just filtered through and went right back into the pool. Tried this and the paper towels were incredibly full!! Thank you for figuring out this hack! I'm sure I'll have to do it again tomorrow for what got away from me, but it'll definitely be much less! Thanks again!

I once had sand coming into the pool from the sand filter. I made a spandex “sock” about 12 inches long and clamped it to the in going water inlet. I caught all that free sand and it stopped regurgitating it

I hooked up 3 sections of 6 foot garden hose, duck taped one end to the end of the pole and the other outside the pool. I started syphoning and pulling the fine stuff out. Bingo!

While this brand of vacuum is good. Don't settle for the less expensive knock offs. I bought two of the cheap ones, the first one actually made it through the first season and never ran again. I replaced it with the same type and it last about 3 weeks. Never again. I just use a vacuum that connects to my pump.

I purchased that little vac because of your suggestion last year & while it works well but the sediments keeps coming back in my pool. I turn off the pump, go real slow & it’s frustrating. I’m going to buy some clarifier & see if that will help. For now it’s not working well for me.

I tried paper towels on my pool filter but unless you overlap layers it tears at the perforated section. But then it restricted the flow so bad I gave up, yes the paper towel was coated with fine flour like paste but I believe my only solution is to vacuum to waste. I think you would need a more sophisticated system that agitates while fine filtering that has a back wash cycle and this would then run for several hours. That would cost too much for a small pool owner so I’m SOL and so are you, unless you have a tiny size pool I can’t see the method herein as workable.

I got a Volt FX-8 vacuum for my pool. I tried the paper towel it did work but only for a few minutes. My wife said to try pantyhose it works great I put two in my filter. After use clean them and reuse.

I use broom and while under the pool, I sweep the sand to the shallow side of the pool and collect the sand. Just put on your googles and you are all set.

I found any inexpensive vacuum that runs off the filter will work, just place your pump/filter valve on waste, then the silt is sucked up and expelled out the dump on the filter, not back in to your pool. I discovered this AFTER buying extra fine screens and using paper towels. Felt like a big dummy when I realized it.

They sell very fine filter that goes over the existing filter, I also use pantyhose socks, that silt it's terrible. Did you say 73 at the end of the video ?

Glad you enjoyed it, hope it helped you(if you have a pool). This is one of the most frustrating things when you get to the end of opening/cleaning your pool. Most devices just blow the sediment around, further clouding the water. Even this vacuum, which is a great tool, has to have more put around the cone in order to catch the extra fine particles which settle to the bottom of the pool. The water clarifier products do a good job at getting the particles to settle however this is the best way to get them out of the pool for good! Hope it helps many pool owners because this is something which took me many years and trials and errors to figure out how to get this last little bit out of the water!

why not just use the pool vaccum and set the pool filter to drain, this way nothing you vaccum goes back to the filter, it goes to waste.
