What is there to do at Pigeon Point Lighthouse?

What is there to do at Pigeon Point Lighthouse? Yes, the actual lighthouse is closed for renovations, but there is a lot to see and do at Pigeon Point Lighthouse.
The renovation at the time of this video, August of 2022, is just now starting. Barring any delays (and COVID and wildfires have already delayed the project), it should take 18 months for a full renovation and folks will be able to tour the inside of the lighthouse.
For now, you can walk the grounds and take in the beautiful scenery and read the ledger boards which is full of history. There is an interpretive center and a gift store.
You can visit the adjoining beaches! Bring a picnic. In this video, we explain which beach is best to get out of the wind.
We also provide some of the fascinating history and to why it's called, "Pigeon Point."

I used to stay at the hostel regularly in the early 90’s as a weekend getaway (I was in my 20’s). I stayed in the dorm and several “couples rooms” they had then, closer to the lighthouse. I met so many cool folks in the common areas, cooking and eating together. New subscriber here (by way of Diane). I live in the SFBay Area and do short solo trips in my van, so I look forward to catching up on past episodes! 🚐💫
