Haven't even watched the video yet but is that a freaking BATFISH I see on the thumbnail?! Crazy creature : they basically walk on the bottom of the ocean and their gills are tiny holes around their butt. Fascinating.

Pretty sure I've talked to people who also breathe through their butt here and there

Rich fishing a low tide cold water morning is tough if FL. Here in St. Augustine I like to look for dark bottom which absorbs the suns heat better so the water gets warmer as well. Usually that is mud which has its problems in low water as u show in the video. Way to grind through and call the fish based upon the bite.

That is a Batfish, it is in the Anglerfish family which are usually found at depths of 600 to 10,000 ft. Some species however (like I assume this one is) are found in more shallow water.
@kirbo373410 күн бұрын
Anglerfish can be found that deep but bat fish tend to stay on shallow and deep reefs
@tylermeadows473510 күн бұрын

Ya know, Rich, you might consider saving some $ by switching from fluorocarbon to mono. Better abrasion resistance and little if any difference in visibility according to Saltstrong.

Be careful wading barefoot. Last year I did the same thing and had to get a piece of shell removed from my foot by a doctor with a scalpel. That tiny piece made my foot swell to almost double it's normal size. I always bring my wading boots just in case now whenever I wear anything else.

You encountered the Sea Robin. Not good bait and the same for eating. Sea Robin upper loins are delicious, just very small. Only two small delicate upper loins. White flakey meat with muscular texture. No fishy taste due to little oil in cleaned flesh. Catch a dozen for a meal for one. Problem is most likely you'll never catch 3 in a day let alone 12. Consider a nice appetizer. From a 75 YO Fla Native. We were raised to eat what we caught. A daily catch was called a "Capt's Platter". Restaurant commercialization over time blurred the original real meaning of "what was caught today". Hope this helps.

That's a walking batfish. Different from regular "batfish". Walking batfishes are in their own family, Ogcocephalidae. Their little "fishing lure" pops out from under their "nose". No need to grab with pliers (they're kind of delicate compared to your average fish).

Hey, can I make a request? Please do an unedited 3 to 4 hour video of keys bridge and flats fishing video. The ones Elias does are amazing. I noticed that his views on those videos significantly surpasses the edited shorter videos. On one of his videos, you were with him in the background and I am anxiously awaiting your video as you caught a massive mutton snapper. Honestly, those long unedited videos are so therapeutic especially when you suffer from severe depression. I simply get to escape reality and enjoy the scenery as well as the fishing. I personally enjoy when you catch small fish just as much as big fish. You have the personality to do those unedited videos. At least try it. Your viewership may increase exponentially. Sorry, too comment too long. 😊😊😊
