In most anime, there are lots of moral arguments or standards put in place by the systems at large. But the thing about the Hunter Exam is they pretty much let anyone in, regardless of their morality. You can have someone who bakes cookies for a living in the same exam as someone who ends people for fun. Truly a terrifying concept. Hisoka is the very embodiment of the second part of that sentiment.

Well except it depends on the examiners. The pre screening, non hunter examiners had moral standards. The first text examiner allowed almost anything, but told Hisoka he’d be disqualified if he attacked any more examiners. There’s no set of rules that always applies, but each examiner can choose to root out a candidate who’s not to their liking.

no the whole hunter exam is random. everyone does whatever they wanna do, there is no way to properly prepare, nor is it bound to any actual skills.

I’m pleasantly surprised you guys actually put this anime on your list, it has many of the common anime tropes you guys hate. I hope you guys turn out liking it, it’s genuinely a very thought out show in terms of world building. The mangako’s style of the power system is so fleshed out and unlike any other style I’ve seen in anime (except for FMA)!

Gon is the mc but he's not the mc of this world. We just follow his story but its not like the whole show revolves around him. He's not the hero that saves the day through willpower and friendship. He's not the chosen one. He's just as important or even less then side charachters

That’s what HxH tried to convey, but I think in the end gon is the Mc. Which is why the manga annoys me. The story focuses so heavily on Gon for so long, then suddenly throws him and Kilua away, never to be seen again.

@@yozarian86 i disagree. In the end gon still wasn't the most important. You could argue that even knuckle was more important plot wise. Gon was assigned on a side mission while netero (a side charachter) had to fight the main villain.

Spoiler: except in this arc, because nen wasn’t even a concept yet. Hisoka does things that have nothing to do with transmuter abilities. Disappearing in a cloud of smoke for example.

@@kc_h7h No there’s just too many inconsistencies. Morel uses a pipe to make those smoke dummies. Hisoka somehow just conjures it out of thin air. Also, why wouldn’t he ever use that again? It seems pretty useful. if hisoka is willing to use his Nen during the exam arc, Why wouldn’t he use bungee gum ever? In the episode where they go through the prison tower, he doesn’t use any abilities while fighting the former instructor. Neither of them use nen in their death match. The instructor uses four blades instead. Another inconsistency is that Killua has no knowledge of Nen when he leaves his Home to go on the journey with Gon, but during the palace invasion in the Ant arc, he somehow recognizes his grandpa‘s Dragon dive. it’s really not that big of a deal, but it’s pretty clear that Nen wasn’t even a concept at this point in the story.

@@AnusSniffer69 I'm not disagreeing with the fact that nen wasn't a full established concept. I'm just saying the smoke power of hisoka isn't an inconsistency. And yea hisoka can conjure things. Its his second most profound affinity. And with the killua and zeno thing, it could be easily a thing like: "grandpa, how does dragon dive work?" "You will find out when you get older kill" Its not really weird to assume since there are supernatural techniques that don't require nen. Like shapeshifting, animal control, spirit echo etc

@@kc_h7h So you’re telling me that killua lived with a family of assassins for 12 years, and not once did they mention nen to him? How would he even know what the dragon dive is, without having any concept of Nen? Also, how would he even know that the specific move that he saw was the dragon dive, without knowing what it looked like previously? I would argue that all of the “phenomena” in the first arc, were written around as efficiently as possible to avoid retcons, once the rules of nen were laid out for us. Also, I’m not saying that there aren’t other supernatural abilities. I’m just saying that some of these supernatural abilities only exist, because Nen wasn’t a thing yet.

I know you guys like doing intro and outro reactions at the end but i really recommend doing them with the episodes! It's part of the experience imo and this is a long show, and it also helps you tell when a new arc is starting since the intro song won't change but only the visuals will haha it helps with the excitement and experience/journey. Other than that i'm enjoying these so much can't wait for the next episodes!

The second phase is actually quite different in the manga even though I get a bit why they changed it so it would fit in one episode Buhara asks the applicants to do a pork dish (they all succeed unless they got killed by the pork) Menchi asks them to do sushi. Nobody knows what it is except Hanzo and they have to guess based on the fact they have to catch a fish, they have rice and seasonings provided as well as Menchi waiting with a small cup of soy sauce and chopsticks. Everyone fails The egg are still there but people have to climb back up on their own (Gon isn't the one making everyone succeed) and Menchi specifies there's a river down there so people "shouldn't die" (I don't trust that but if she says so)

HxH is such an interesting show for me. There are many shows that get me hyped or really intrigued. This isn't always necessarily true for HxH but I feel like this show is the best one to "just watch" when you're chilling. The world and characters are all really fun so that watching is always entertaining, the episodes are just a vibe. I think that's pretty unqiue.

I've never watched HxH before, so reacting with you guys is pretty fun! Now I see why Hisoka is really popular, he's pretty badass (despite being kinda messed up ^^,). The vibe reminds me of One Piece a bit, it's interesting! Tournaments are always really interesting, we see different abilities through tests. If you like those, you would LOVE Tower of God. The lore of the story is based on a giant tournament lasting hundreds, even thousands of years. For now only season 1 (which is the prologue) is out, but when season 2 starts, it could be pretty popular.

You'll love Hunter X Hunter bruh, that I assure y'all. There's plot twist in the plot twist even in the smallest detail. The build up of the story is phenomenal. It's like playing a video game with a main quest but you gotta do a lot of side quest for you to proceed to the main quest. Oh, I can wait for you to get to the middle chapter. You cannot miss a heart beat.
