Togashi set up Alluka from the start. They mention the number of family members in the second arc. We see the family picture with Alluka in the middle of the Chimera Ant Arc. Alluka is used as set up for the next arc in the manga. The needle that Illumi puts in Killua makes him forget about his sister for most of the series. As for Alluka's gender, the common consensus is Alluka is a trans character. Killua respects her gender while the rest of the family doesn't because they don't see her as a person.

I don't know if Alluka's power ever gets explained. But, I like to think of it as the product of residual nen/nen after death. Think of it as all the people who the Zoldyks have assassinated hopes, dreams, and hatred manifesting in the form that is Nanika. Hence, ultimate destruction or infinite possibilities.

The photo was created for the 2011 anime and doesn't exist in the manga. So it's not a good excuse. BUT there was 2 hint in the manga... 10+ years before we knew of Alluka : 1) The manga says : "The family presently consists of five siblings..." --> Meaning a hidden one 2) Alluka's name could be guessed from the beginning, using the other sibbling names ... Killu [A llu Ka] llu to 3) Why was Alluka hidden? Surely for a big reason ---> The reason was surely thought from the beginning by Togachi. So for me, he did well with this Alluka character. It's not a convenienve for me ^^

Alluka has always been foreshadowed in the manga/anime! Also when they talk about Alluka's powers, they refer to it as 'Something' which is actually used as a name - "Nanika". All the Zoldyck children are born boys but Alluka refers to herself as a girl. Only Killua uses the correct terms for her.

Alluka comes from nowhere, BUT, the manga creator hint about the character from episode 20-ish in 1998... but only to be revealed only 10+ years after in 2010+ As someone already said : From the beginning of HxH --> We could have guessed the name of Alluka.... that was shown only 10+ years after. The zoldick names takes the first letter of the older brother. It goes like this : From older brother to younger : i llu mi --- Mi llu ki -- Ki llu a -- ?? llu ?? -- Ka llu to --> so we can guess that the missing brother was named Alluka, from episode 20-ish. + There was the photo of the Zoldick family shown from the beginning. ... And why was Alluka hidden from the manga during 10+ years? Because of a goldy power we can imagine.... so the manga creator didn't just create a new character from nowhere here.

Killua doesn’t understand what he means but he absolutely right and doesnt lie to Killua at all, but since Killua considers her as family and doesn’t know/understand what’s actually going on with her he just thinks Silva is just scared of her power and wants to keep her prisoner forever…which isn’t wrong it’s just not for the reasons you think. Alluka's power source (spoiler, i think?) I read a theory that after their great great great grandfather, Zigg Zoldyck, went to the dark continent, he brought with him a parasite type of creature that might have gotten into Alluka. Given that we have yet to learn much about the creatures of the dark continent and their powers, this parasite may have the ability to grant wishes, explaining the bizarre powers of Alluka.

Alluka hacks ability is actually a sneak peek into the DC arc. People says it bs or bad writing, however it is cleverly place with the hints of a missing brother/sister and the abilities stem from it. Netero even said DC is hacks and would not want to go there as it is not a place where the strong prrvail but a place where you have to keep surviving each day. Thats why he didnt want to stay at DC as netero character is more of finding a worthy opponent to go toe to toe with and not die for shits and giggles just because you pissed of a bush or whatnot

It's never revealed in the anime where Alluka got her abilities, and technically it's not revealed in the manga either, but it is very clearly implied what "Nanika" actually is later in the manga (after the end of the anime). SPOILER IF YOU WANT TO READ THE MANGA: - - - - - - - - - Alluka is "possessed" (it's more like a symbiosis considering Alluka and Nanika seem to like each other) by Ai, a gaseous lifeform who represent the codependency of desire. Ai comes, as Silva said, from somewhere else (the place mentioned in the very last episode of the anime if you've watched that already). And it's a being powerful enough that its species is ranked higher in level of danger than both the entirety of humanity and the Chimera Ants.

Nanika is from the Dark Continent, I guess. That's what the next arc was supposed to be about. That's where Ging was trying to go. You see, this show's setting is more like a flat Earth than a round one, and the world they live in is just a tiny fraction of the entire world. Even the Chimera ants came from the dark continent. My guess is that when two powerful nen users mate, they summon some sort of monster from the Dark Continent, hence Nanika.

got some info you guys might wanna hear. its a spoiler but it does tie into why alluka exists and where she might be from. should read this after u guys finish hunter (info below) ai is one of the 5 currently discovered disasters from the dark continent, one of these disasters were the chimera ants. there is a disaster called ai from there and it has the same powers as alluka. its stated every time a group ventures to the dark continent, they have to bring a disaster with them home. grandpa of zeno zigg zoldyck had ventured to the dark continent iirc and when they came back they likely brought back ai. ( ai is also the thing she says when she grants a wish. (okay in japanese = ai)

On Alluka's gender. It isn't said explicitly, but, Alluka referes to herself with feminine pronouns along with Killua, while the rest of their family refers to her a male. So filling in those blanks it is assumed that she's probably trans.

If you only watch hxh anime, then there's a lot of things make you confused because the anime cut out the part that they are explained in the manga or just very poor explanations. If you read the manga after the anime, you will see that Alluka don't just "randomly" got this power

I wanna point out a couple of things people get wrong about this arc and Nanika's existence. The reason why we never knew about Alluka/Nanika is because the Zoldyck family, INCLUDING Killua, wants to keep her a secret to the rest of the world. The reason being is obvious, if powerful people knew of an all powerful ability such as wish granting, they would stop at nothing to obtain this power. This explains why Killua has never mentioned her until this point. Even with everyone who isn't a Zoldyck to this point, Killua has only said "I will heal Gon" but never goes into details. This also explains why Killua did not use Alluka to kill Meruem/the chimera ants. Before they raided the palace, no one from the palace invasion squad knew just how powerful Meruem was. Gon and Killua witnessed Pitou's strength first hand, but even then, it seemed like there was a possibility of them defeating Pitou/the king without having to use Alluka and reveal her to the world. If they used Alluka, even in secret, there would be tons of relentless questions asked by everyone who knew of this chimera ant threat about how they got rid of them in a flash. I think Alluka/Nanika is a great addition to this world, and without going into spoilers of this story, Nanika's existence makes much more sense if you read the story past the anime adaptation.

Now that we're at this part I can talk about something Togashi has done with some characters. He plays a lot with gender. Many characters are androgynous and some hint towards transgenderism. Characters like Kite doesn't have pronouns in the show. It's always Kite. And seeing the Kid that's with the ant, that is heavily implied to be Kite, is now a girl. Or Pitou it actually referred to as "He" one time, every other time is his name. Or our Octopus friend, he has always wished to be a squid instead. Now we are here with Killia's little brother. We will see that he has a very feminine character design. It's really cool

Just to clear up confusion, since most people get confused about this, Alluka is a biological male, but is confirmed to be trans. Killua calls her she, the rest of the family doesn't care. Kalluto, Killuas other younger brother, simply crossdresses because the mom likes to dress them up lmao. Since Alluka got specifically confirmed as trans, but Kalluto did not, it seems like a purposeful decision by the author. So Kalluto is probably just a guy that likes dressing as a girl because his mom raised him like that.
