The last item looks like a large pestle, used to grind grain or other substances. Somewhere, there should be a mortar.

the last item is a pestle from a mortar and pestle for milling grain. the iron is used to smash the grain and the loops on the side are handles to raise the pestle each blow.

The butter churn description cracked me up; "about the size of 6 soda bottles" is an interesting unit of measure that doesn't give much insight as to it's size...

We used to put cream in a glass jar and shake it real hard to make butter back in the 50's

when I taught pre school, a glass jar and cream and a slightly hyper active child...we had butter!

Thank you for posting this. I have a set of cork borers and always wondered what they were. Found mine in some stuff my brother was getting rid of.

Re: the carding bench: it was, indeed, hard to tell from the photo, but as soon as the narration mentioned the spikey patch on the bench section, I figured out the purpose, as I'm also a hand-spinner. The boxlike portion on the bench part would make a handy place to store the carding paddle seen on the right in the picture. I don't think I've ever seen a carding bench before, so it's as intriguing piece of furniture. Oh, and I recognized the bodkin as well. I have reenactor friends who use them with their garb of various centuries.

I would think that last thing was the pestle for a mortar and pestle but, could not tell you what kind of set at that weight. (Maybe for grinding corn or wheat, maybe for wet gunpowder, I am not sure!)

Gunpowder pestle would have brass, not iron, wet or no.

I have a pair of carding boards my grandad made in the early 1900's. Still serviceable too.

Why would you sit on a churn? Too bad they ran screws through the antique wool carding bench.
