Indeed, Red Foxx would not continue with the show (Sanford & Son) if Lawanda Page didn't get the part of aunt Esther.
@hebneh Жыл бұрын
At the beginning of her role, she was unsure and not yet comfortable with the process of working on TV. Redd gave her a combination pep talk and threat to get herself together. One of the producers also gave her support, which she was grateful for, so she could keep this job. Obviously everyone succeeded, particularly her!

JAY WALK:. See this is a man who knows what he is talking about. In these later episodes Aunt Esther was too nice. The earlier ones are when she gives as good as she gets. Me personally I think that Sanford and Son jumped the shark when Redd Foxx came back to the show after that contract dispute. Those episode where Grady took his place were fire. Check it out when you see Lamont with that Geri curl you know that he was on that stuff because he is too cool and laid back unlike the earlier episodes where he's always angry with Fred. This young fellow needs to react to when Lamont, Rollo and Fred get thrown in jail for suspicion of making a pornographic film. Aunt Esther goes off in that one. 🤣
@JayWalk232 жыл бұрын
@@beaujac311 ah yes, from one Sanford and Son connoisseur to another. That jail episode was pure comedy. Another one was the Big Money Grip episode, all time favorite. In the early episodes, Lamont was a menace sometimes, but it was a great back and forth dynamic between him and Fred.

When I was a kid, my mom went to Las Vegas and ran in to Redd Foxx while in one of the casinos. She was there with her boyfriend, but that didn't stop Redd from hitting on her (she was really beautiful) with some "very saucy" pickup lines. Years later, she told me exactly what he said. I cannot repeat it here, but oh my. Use your imagination. He was truly a dirty ol' man! LOL!

This was a 70s sitcom starring the great comic Redd Foxx. It's still playing on re-runs on a lot of the nostalgic channels that play old tv shows. Absolute comedy gold. If you don't know who, or what "Sanford and Son is, find it online, or buy the DVDs of the show on Amazon or something. One of the all-time classic comedy shows. There is some humor that crosses all color lines and cultures. This show was hugely popular when I was in my teens. The writing was great, the antics and facial expressions were great. I remember LaWands Page on the Dean Martin celebrity roasts. She could sling it as best as the male comedians. Now that I'm older it's still funny to watch but some nostalgia takes some credit. Also now all those late movies from the 40's and 50's that came on after Johnny Carson I couldn't take. Now I can't get enough if them and modern movies don't do much for me.

Nearly 50, year old show, got some young person cracking up, just like it did me, as a kid,..this was one of the craziest shows on back then, you so need to see the episodes where he's rummaging through a drawer full of thousands of, probably non prescription, Walgreens eyeglasses, looking for glasses to read whatever he's trying to read, he might as well be putting his hand in some box to pull a number for bingo, I swear, we never knew which pair of glasses he was going to pick, then sometimes he'd go, here's that pair, like that's the pair he can see good with,.I use to crack up at that, couldn't have foreseen, some day I'd be doing the very thing, now I didn't have a drawer full, but I did have quite the collection for years, before I finally started getting prescription glasses,...$10 glasses, ..🙄,..do keep going, Redd Foxx was a stand up comedian, from back in the day, before this show, like Mom Mabley, huh both were potty mouths, lol,..Redd played Vegas for years, think he was a headliner, and he was on Dean Martin's Roast specials quite a few times, as well as LaWanda Page, she before she died Rip, had started doing I think 🤔 Church's Chicken commercials?, ...do keep going, enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌
