“You can’t eat chicken like this, you’ll die” 😂😂 This tofu looks and sounds amazing! Might have to add it as a stop during our trip out west! Our favourite tofu recipes are your coconut lime tofu, crispy tofu bowls, and shishkabobs with tofu and veggies on the bbq!

Hahaha he always manages to throw out some zingers lol 😂 and ya it’s a super cute day trip when you’re on the island (we’ll have to get you some of the smoked tofu to try for sure!). I’m glad you like the coconut lime tofu! I’ve actually never made tofu shish kebabs because we don’t have a BBQ but I’ll have to try that when we go away to a cottage this summer 👍🏼

Really enjoyed it, as a Level 11 vegan who eats her tofu straight from the package, ha! I am so envious of your ability to get freshly made tofu from the maker, and my mouth was watering in the test test portion. I especially envy your having smoked tofu, because that completely vanished from the metro Detroit grocery market many years ago, for mysterious reasons. P.S. Love your blouse in the kitchen segments. Thanks for posting 🙂

Hahaha thank you! And as a level 11 vegan you would definitely LOVE this tofu 😝😂 I’m glad you liked the video and I hope you can get your hands on some smoked tofu again soon! It was much harder for me to find when we lived in Toronto but it seems to be in every grocery store in BC which has been a plus.

My favourite 3 tofu recipes are: RPLs tofu scramble (I have to try yours next time), TBD's "Marry Me Tofu" and ... dang, I cannot decide? I will just say Tofu Tikka Masala and call it a day. Could be whatever else :)
@TastyThriftyTimely7 ай бұрын
Oh cool RPL uses tahini in her tofu scramble and much more milk so it’s definitely a wetter scramble but I’ll have to try that! A few people have mentioned Marry Me Tofu lately and I’ve never had that (or marry me chicken) so that’s on my list to try!

Well we are way behind in the UK. Only just started been able to find tofu in main supermarkets and we only have 2 brands. There is only one brand that makes organic silken tofu and cannt get it in the supermarkets. I can see how sprouted will be good for allergens as does sprouted bread for gluten sensitivities. I can see how it will taste better before packaging as does home made soy milk. I tend to airfry and add to my salads and silken is fantastic in a ninja creamy ice-creams. The texture and flavour is amazing. ❤

Oh interesting that it’s not as easy to find for you 🤔 when we were in Portugal a couple of summers ago we couldn’t find refrigerated tofu but we did find it shelf stable actually! I assume you have looked there too but I should have pointed out that it might be on the regular grocery shelves in some countries and not refrigerated. Amazing that you can add it to the ninja creamy! I just learned about that machine and it looks amazing! I wondered how it would work with vegan ice cream 👍🏼 I hope you can find more options of tofu soon!

Oh man! I've always wanted to try smoked tofu! I haven't been able to find it where I live ( California - USA). Even my home country Brazil sells smoked tofu. As a matter of fact in Brazil they cook the smoked tofu with black beans as a vegan version of our famous "feijoada". Does anybody know where I can buy some smoked tofu? I know I can marinade it and get that smoky flavor but I don't think it's the same 😕. I do find sprouted tofu at Trader Joe's. I really like it 😊
@TastyThriftyTimelyАй бұрын
Oh that’s surprising you can’t find smoked tofu even at Trader Joe’s (I’ve never been to one but they seem to have everything!) I hope someone else in California might know where you can find it. That “feijoada” version of tofu seems interesting. It sounds a little similar to a gourmet tofu in a black bean sauce that we have here in Canada from a company called Ying Ying. They have a bunch of flavoured tofu that are really interesting.
@fabic1567Ай бұрын
@TastyThriftyTimely Hi! Yes even Trader Joe's doesn't carry smoked tofu 😕. Feijoada is traditionally made with black beans and the types and amounts of meat depends on your budget, but usually you see bacon, sausage, carne seca which is like beef jerk but sold in rectangular blocks ( almost like tofu but about 1 inch thick). People also put the ears and the hooves of pigs 😔. So the vegan version of that is usually made with soy curls, smoked tofu and some people add store bought vegan sausage at the end.

I REALLY want to buy that sprouted tofu, now. :-D Do they ship internationally, I wonder? Also, would never have guessed you were filming in your kitchen at 9 at night -- I hope you get to film a little earlier in the day, for the next few! :-o But this was absolutely lovely, and I loved hearing that take on tofu -- "tofu has no opinions; it's versatile". That's a remarkable and apt truth. What've you and Bryan got planned next, Kathryn? :-)

Spud (the online market) ships across BC and Alberta but unfortunately not any further! We’re so glad you liked this one and we think we’ll get a short out next weekend because things have been so busy we haven’t had much time to film another full length video. But the quick pickled red onion and portobello mushroom burger are on our radar. I’m working on a few brand new recipes too so hopefully those will pop up here soon!

what do they do with all that okara?
@TastyThriftyTimely7 күн бұрын
Hmm they did say that they used to make some products from it (okara cookies etc). They had stopped using it for products but I think they mentioned they gave it to farmers in the area for feed. I know they mentioned they donate all the cut ends that are discarded when they cut their tofu blocks to organizations that provide meals to those in need. They mentioned that vegetarian/vegan meals are often harder to find in shelters etc so those end pieces aren’t wasted which is great.
@alhood36 күн бұрын
