Love the added detail of Washington dancing. Dance was one of his favorite pastimes, and he and Martha always dazzled everyone else in the ballroom with their skill. Meanwhile, Washington's informally adopted French son had two left feet. Good thing the French Revolution didn't pick its victims based on dance skills, or Laf's rear would've been antelope fodder.

I mean, there was a lot more to the Galileo story, due to the fact that he was stating his theory as fact without sufficient evidence, but overall, good lesson.
@Handlelesswithme2 ай бұрын
Also the Catholic Church at one point taught his theories in their schools and only persecuted him because they were jealous of Protestants getting at the attention from doing so
@vicenzostella13902 ай бұрын
@@Handlelesswithme Hmm, haven't read or heard about that part. The main reason why they persecuted him was because when given permission to write about heliocentricity again, the pope (his FRIEND) told him to write it as a theory, not as fact - since, again, he didn't have any good evidence. Galileo proceeded to put that argument in the mouth of the character Simplicio. Indirectly or not, Galileo insulted those that had funded him and his research for years. And so, he was sentenced to house arrest in a vila with a personal assistant. Later on, he finally provided sufficient evidence to his theory. But where did you get your info from? I'm curious.

@@Handlelesswithme Oh, and he was also known for insulting his opponents, which doesn't really bode well for his arguments. I mean, you don't win a debate by insulting others

@@vicenzostella1390 oh wait was thinking about Copernicus They persecuted Galileo because he was best friends with the Medici which the pope did not like not because he was controversial

I bet someone will come here and say "If tribalism did not existed everyone would support my ideology!" and "only the people who disagree with me is tribalist!". The fact is that every tribalist believes himself to be smarter and more logical than everyone else. Just like John Cleese said: Extremism is a dangerous psychological trap that lures individuals into a false sense of righteousness. By creating a distorted reality where all evil is attributed to external enemies, and the extremist is pure good, extremists can justify their harmful and evil behaviors by believing that the other side is evil. Do as much evil as they want while maintaining a sense of moral superiority. The extremist think "If we do evil its justified because they deserve because they do evil."

This is a weird mix of facts and fiction.. Between the teeth, the cherry tree, etc, not being true history, where does this show draw the line between teaching history and, idk, teaching myths..?

@@theprophetofhate7188 You know what I mean, right..? Regular fiction is fine, but mixing inaccurate historical myths in with your historical lessons told by a cooky teacher is problematic, because kids can't recognize the inaccuracies, the inaccurate historical facts.

@@FurryEskimo Yes, let's tell the children his dentures were made of teeth harvested from prisoners, and slaves. Because what his false teeth were made of is what made him a historic figure... the wood thing is a simplification designed for better information retention, by bending useless information. The cherry tree thing is not even a myth, its a ~legend~ never confirmed nor denied... one told with the intent to use a important public figure to instill the value of honesty in children.
@isleling5191Ай бұрын
@FurryEskimo Washington may have not chopped down a cherry tree or had wooden teeth, but they did make sure to clarify that this is the painting of George Washington and not the actual historical one the myths clearly appeared as jokes If you think the children are not able to distinguish that than that's your opinion but the myths are harmless anyway I grew up thinking Mulan was a historical figure turns out she was just a poem no damage was done
