Schwvartz King Yah it's not a difficult language but when people speak fast and especially in a dialect far from bokmål, it can be difficult to understand spoken Norwegian by some.
@brandonduet77717 жыл бұрын
Sean O'Sullivan i understand what you are going through. We need to train our ears to recognize every syllable. We do this by watching movies and videos, but it seems many of them jump from one dialect to the next. One movie is a different dialect from another. Even the people in this video were doing it. Hard to find straight bokmål.
@seanosull28847 жыл бұрын
Yes, I guess we just have to accept the fact that bokmål is simply a written language that resembles the spoken language of middle/upper-class Oslo and even they have some differences in the way they speak. Films and TV series are great. Also music which is sung in their dialect can also be useful. If you are not keen on earning Nynorsk but would like to familiarize yourself with it to an extent, I would recommend the poetry of Olaf Hauge. My girlfriend bought me his book with cross the page translation but i would challenge myself to translate without any help. And it helped me see that Nynorsk is not a million miles from Bokmål and I have become more accustom to dialects in the Nynorsk regions as a result of reading his amazing poetry.

Norway has beautiful nature and reserved people so it may not be the best place to live for some people. If you think you can't fit in the culture, please don't immigrate to Norway. Instead be a tourist and enjoy the scenery.

Conclusion: Norwegian sounds like a whimsical German and French mix. Also Norwegians are a bit distant but very cute. And really adore their food, especially brown cheese and the outdoors.

tim tasir Of course it is not ALL that similar to French but the accent in Kristiansand has a significant R sound compared to other cities. I suppose German.

It's interesting because what Norwegians seem to think others think of them is totally opposite of how the majority of us feel. I actually find the typical Norwegian to be polite, welcoming, courteous, approachable, and sweetly honest. Norwegians are also an introvert's dream, because they never infringe upon your personal space or overstep. They seem very respectful of boundaries, and I absolutely love them for it.

Znamer What Smoshboy12345678910 said is totally wrong. Bokmål is thus a set of guidelines that governments in Norway have adopted for how Norwegian language should be WRITTEN.. Bokmål has been rewritten many times, and words have been replaced, but it is the language we write, not what we speak.. She speaks norwegian with an OSLO ACCENT. There are different accents all over Norway.
@mt-tag10 жыл бұрын
Oppne smash Thanks for the info. I had heard Bokmål is just a written form. But I have also heard some consider the Oslo accent's pronunciation would be the closest to Bokmål if Bokmål was actually spoken. I think that's what Smoshboy meant. He was likely dumbing it down for me since I am new to Norwegian dialects/accents :)
@kraftdinner42029 жыл бұрын
Znamer Bokmål is basically written form derived from Danish but can be spoken in many different accents. She is speaking with an Oslo accent- some say the standard Norsk accent- but accents can change dramatically from city to city. If you were to go from Oslo to Kristiansand, the change is quite noticeable.

I've studied Norwegian for a bit on Duolingo and so am mostly familiar with its written form, but it's wild to me how much softer, quicker, and more elided it is in regular speech. With some of these speakers, I can't match up the speech to the text no matter how many times I listen. I thought German was bad but nordmennene take it to another level!
