Great info… my daughter is the vice president of her crew that is newly formed and will be the president in the spring. How did you all handle rank advancements when you were newly formed

Awesome to hear! Rank Advancement in a Venturing Unit is difficult just because of how much you need to accomplish to see any "progression". An example is 24 hours of service in order to obtain Discovery. It's also hard to get members to decide on what requirements they want to work on, but that should never hold one or two Venturers back from completing the requirement if they want. Another example, I found that my Council offers classes every month for the First Aid & CPR Certification. Not everyone in my Crew wants to go or is available so, my friend and I are doing it on our own. Plus, I've been trying to get that requirement done for a year now...haha! Rank Advancement takes time, but don't let it discourage you. Ask surrounding Crews what they've done to advance. Good luck to your daughter!

Hi I have a question about founding a crew in my home town. what kind of process would I have to go through? I don't have a crew near me but I would really like to be involved in a crew. I'm 18 and didn't get to make it to Eagle rank because I joined at the age of 16. I love Scouts BSA and want to continue scouting. Anyway, let me know if you have any advice for me, thanks!

Hey- that's so exciting to hear! A Venturing Crew is a great way to stay involved in our program and continue to develop your leadership skills. Founding any Unit involves paperwork which can be provided to you by your District Executive (DE). If you do not know who that is, your Council's website should have them listed under their Staff Directory with contact info. Ask if your Council has a Venturing Officers Association (VOA). If so, these youth and adults will be a huge help to you in this process. If I remember correctly- you need a minimum of five youth, (14-20-year-olds) a Crew Advisor, Committee Chair, and Charter Organization Representative. Some Crews "partner" with a local Troop and share the same Unit number and some are stand alone and attract their membership from all surrounding Troops. None of the web links are working for me right now...but if you go to scouting.org and click on the Venturing program, you can find more information there. My last note to you- when starting to recruit and attract membership from Troops in your area, you might run into a few adults who think you are "stealing" their older Scouts. Which is simply just not true! The BSA has confirmed that Advanced Youth Programs (OA, Venturing, and Sea Scouts) actually retains older Scouts in the program for an average of 16 additional months. Plus, if an older Scout has plateaued in the Scouts BSA program, why hold them back from bigger adventures and more leadership roles? I’ve been watching several of your videos and notice that they are flipped horizontally. You should look for a setting that says exactly that, flip horizontally. That should help.

Great introductory video to venturing! I'm an advisor in North Carolina. Where are you guys located? Your resources are really great as well. I believe a few years back they did replace the secretary and treasurer positions with the VP positions. There is also a VP of communications who takes over most of the secretaries role but the VP of admin also does some of that. Take a look through the materials and see if I'm telling you right. But I'm pretty sure. And thank you for leading the adventure! Great luck with your crew.

I would love to do one on Sea Scouts however, I am not in that program and honestly have no idea how they operate. But, I will try my best to see if I can get enough knowledge about the program, and feel comfortable making an info video on it! Thank you for the suggestion!

The President still does their Advisor Conference and BoR as usual. Hope that answers your question. :)

@@GwendolynsScoutingAdventure the requirement calls for the meeting to be with the Crew President and Advisor, that's where the confusion comes in. So theirs is just with the Advisor?

Well, to my knowledge that is only for the Venturing Award/Rank and I don't know how many Crew Presidents get into that position before they achieve that Award.
