I was in cub scouts and boyscouts for a few years. I would always beg my parents to let me quit because I hated it but looking back, I’m glad I did it. I made a ton of friends and learned a lot of useful skills.

A few years ago scouts invited girls and it’s actually not “military” at all. It’s really chill and you learn HUNDREDS skill and I love it. I’m more than halfway to eagle right now and I’m what they would consider “young”. There was a boy 4 years older than me that has the same rank as me in our troop. So Boy Scouts (BSA) is actually pretty awesome and I recommend you join it. If you get Eagle (the highest rank) it looks amazing on a college and job application.

I remember the Cub Scout people would always come into school to try and coax people into joining their ranks with cool magazines that showed all the TUBULAR things you would do. I just wanted to go zip-lining, but NO, my parents wouldn't let me join year after year, because it was too much money or something -0- Hearing about it now though, it just seems like a glorified summer-camp... I was a cub scout in Canada and when I was is cub scouts we had something called pirate camp. For a couple meetings before, we would plan everything (food, supplies, transportation etc.) then we were to build a pirate ship as a group out of 2x4's. We nailed them together (with help of course) and went to the camp. Then we pretty much played pirate (we had plastic swords and everyone had pirate costumes on) for the rest of the day. Fuck that was awesome. Then, since the leaders didn't want to bring the pirate ship back home, they put it on the fire pit and burned it. The fire was literally over 20 feet high and we had to stand 30 feet away without burning ourselves. Then we ate chocolate fondue with fruit. Got dayum I loved cub scouts.

I was a Bear Scout when I was in Cub Scouts at the St. Rita's church. One of the first things we did was receive our handbooks, and I remember seeing a story involving the characters of The Jungle Book in it, so that was cool. And then immediately after getting our handbooks, we carved boats from a bar of soap. The most significant thing I remember doing in Cub Scouts was a Fishing Derby, which probably was Cub Scouts Day Camp, but mostly about fishing. I left the Derby after getting kicked off the archery range because I was an impatient kid back then, and tried to get my arrows before everyone else. I still got a bunch of awards, though. I stopped doing Cub Scouts around Halloween when I was 9, and never went back, and now I'm probably too old to do it, so I just won't associate with them anymore.
