Hi Anna rhanks for your eye-opening video I'm a anAspiring Author Question one: is there some kind of security on my own written story not to be copied and published somewhere without my agreement and knowledge? Question two: is there a way or chance or option where my written story generate income? Question three does wattpad facilitate possible self publishing opportunity for the written stories? thank you very much hoping for a kind aninformative answer apologies for being so blunt and fresh and straight in my question I'm just bored at home recovering from stroke gone jobless thanks (smiley)

Hey, Rey, Those are some good questions! I'll try to answer them the best to my knowledge. Question one: according to (US) copyright law, if you make something creative it is yours by right. However! The internet is notorious for not respecting copyright law. So yes, there is protection for your work built into the legal system, but the problem is that it can be difficult to enforce your claim if someone decides to copy and paste it elsewhere. I've known quite a few great Wattpad writers that were on Wattpad for free only to be taken down because someone stole their work and published it elsewhere on the internet. Question two: First off: yes, you can publish (self/traditional) and make money that way. Off of Wattpad? I believe (it's been a few years now) if your story is very successful on Wattpad, they'll pay you fractions of pennies per view for your story with a tiny chance to get published under their label. If you want serious money, like money you can live off of/make a career of it, I wouldn't say Wattpad is the way to go. You can go the self-publishing (for quicker money than traditional publishing) route, but just know it's an insanely competitive market and (from what I've seen) you only start making decent money if you're lucky, good, and have a hell of a backlog of books published (say 6+ books and that's a small backlog). To self-publish and make a living off of it, people/self-published authors highly suggest you be able to produce 2-3+ books a year (like rough draft, edits, beta readers, edits again, copy editing, published). Question three: does Wattpad facilitate self-publishing? Yes and no. You won't get any help from Wattpad staff. You'll get feedback on your books from readers, but just remember that the average age of Wattpad readers is very young and tend to be consumers of free, fast fiction. I know a few people have the first few chapters of their self-published books on Wattpad free to get more eyes on their work, but the actual free-to-paying ratio is rather low (again owing to the age of the readers on Wattpad). I'm so sorry to hear about your stroke! I hope you get feeling better soon.

Someone referred to watt pad as a dirty site for perverts so I came here to see what watt pad is, the reason they called it a dirty site is because they make uh... inappropriate books?
@AlwaysWrite
@AlwaysWrite 3 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of smut (various degrees of porn/explicit writing) on the website. If you're looking for smut, you can find smut there. You'll sometimes happen upon smut, but you can choose to not read the smut. It's considered a "dirty site" by some because of the availability and quantity of smut.

Does your work need to be copyrighted before you put it on wattpad? Or will they be classed as published and copyrighted when uploaded to wattpad? TIA
@AlwaysWrite
@AlwaysWrite Жыл бұрын
So my understanding of copyright law is that if you write/create something you own the copyright for the creation. There is not a formal process to copyright one's writing. However, the internet doesn't really respect copyright laws and there's not much keeping someone from just copying your work and claiming it as their own. Artists run into this problem often on the internet. One great example is web comics. People just chop off the watermarks for the creators and repost the full comic without an attribution. It's a dangerous game posting to Wattpad. My free advice: fanfiction is totally fine to post to Wattpad but do not post original content to Wattpad.

i have a question How can i get audience ? What guaranties that people will see my story ?
@AlwaysWrite
@AlwaysWrite 8 ай бұрын
Like with most things in life, you are not guaranteed to get an audience or views. If you're wanting an audience on Wattpad, I'd say work on the title of your story, the book cover, and the description. From there, just start publishing regularly. Wattpad is a social media platform at its core. You can also potentially grow your following by interacting with popular stories/commenting on chapters and such (do NOT beg people to read your story, just be chill and interesting in your comment). I wish you luck if you do decide to publish to Wattpad.

A lot has changed since I posted this video. Part of it is still free, but Wattpad is now offering more and more paid "books" from their creators that haven't seen an editor.

Is this app gives free books
@AlwaysWrite
@AlwaysWrite 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, Kritika, So the Wattpad app gives you access to stories that are posted to Wattpad. You won't likely find any published books on there (excluding their published books that you have to pay to access). If you're looking for free ebooks, I would suggest looking through the Amazon (aka Kindle) catalogue. There's a variety of ebooks available there for free or very cheap. For example, Pride and Prejudice is free as an ebook. Also! Look into Project Gutenberg. It's a digital library with over 60,000 free ebooks. If you're looking for free books online, that's where I'd start. Happy reading!
