I'm swapping out the stock wheels on my RAM for some similar sized wheels but changing up the OFFSET. So when doing this and wanting a specific look, like I think most of use are, You need to know what's going to happen when you start picking different offset wheels.
Long story short I'll put it this way......
A Positive Offset (+) will bring the wheel and ultimately the tire closer into the wheel well , closer too the center of the truck... It will suck the Tire into the truck. "Adding" it to the truck.
A Negative Offset (-) will push out the wheel & tire, pushing it further out of the wheel well, away from the center of the truck, repelling the tire from the wheel well, "taking away" the wheel or removing it from the wheel well.
Negative Offset giver you more rubber/wheel outside your wheel well.
Offset measurements are usually given in millimeters so when you see -44 they are referring to 44mm.
Here's a conversion for you to understand:
25.4mm = 1"
Some very common negative offsets you'll see on new wheels are:
-6mm = .23"
-22mm = .86"
-44mm = 1.73"
A lot if not almost all vehicles have a positive offset on factory wheels. This is why when even going to a Zero (0) offset it will push your wheels out from the vehicle. And when you go to a -44mm from let's say a +44 offset like in my case, this would cause the wheels from a stock setting to be pushed out a huge 3.46". That will be a pretty big visual difference.
So Google your Year/Make/Model and use the words Stock wheel or Factory wheel Offset and find out your official starting point on your ride, or even call a good tire shop and they should be able to tell you. Then you can make an educated decision on what your next set of tires and wheels will be and you'll be happier than can be. I love my set up and they were Exactly what I was wanting. If you went with something like a 16mm to 24mm offset, you would have avoided all rubbing/trimming with that size wheel and tire combo. FYI for anyone reading this... 👍

18 x 9 +1 offset with a 32" tire coming for my 2500 was hoping for just a little poke out of the tires and I think I made the right choice. Thanks for confirming 👍

How wide are your 32’s ? With my zero offset I and 12.5” wide I have this almost 2” reveal. So you should have some if you have a 10.5 or 11.5 wide tire.

Nice video! I almost went with a -12 wheel, but realized I didn’t take in account the offset of the ram 2500, ended up with a positive 18, sticks out about half the amount of yours

Nice truck! You mentioned you do some towing do you see any drawbacks with the 35s while towing? What gearing are you running?

I haven’t noticed any major differences. I have the stock gearing. Haven’t changed anything there. And I haven’t had any repairs. Just the usually maintenance. I also don’t slam it while I’m towing. I try and tow “responsibility” and don’t push it. Obviously the gas mileage will be affected slightly but not by much. I think the truck rides better just having some more rubber under it in my opinion

question is it safe to put 35 x 12.5 or 37 tire on 17inch wheels stock dually tires

The size of the wheel to the size of the tire isn’t much of a concern. 17” wheel are very common and if the tire is made in that combination then it’s intended to be used with that size tire/wheel. The Dually doesn’t really change anything. It’s actually more safe usually because of the increased wheel base and ground contact. 17” wheels and 35-37” tires looks really good because of the beefyness of the tire. Lots of rubber.

Nice! That was the goal. I’ve always had questions on exactly what number I should get in. What number will give me a specific look. So once I did all the research and physically did it myself I wanted to try to show people of physical representation of what these numbers mean and what you’re gonna get when you put it on different vehicles. Damn, i was looking to do 20in wheels but i think ill go 18 after seeing this. I like all that rubber. Might make my 03 ride a less like a pissed off bull. Lol.

Haha. I feel ya on that. Yeah the more rubber look in my opinion looks more aggressive and it has the better ride. Less worry about hitting something and it pinching the tire too. It’s a clean look for sure.
