My mom always called this style hippie witch , her sister was in it big lol . Never knew it had an actual name
@angelycaviolet2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if it always had the "WHIMSIGOTH" title but I am sure the style has always existed. I think people just invented the word for the aesthetic. I think hippie witch or alternative boho are pretty good synonyms for Whimsigoth.

This “trend” reminds me of my childhood! My mom and her friends wearing knee high platform boots, velvet dresses, and long cardigans. I was very trad goth adjacent in highschool, and went norm/cottage core for a while, trying to find my fashion style and this is really what I think I’ve been looking for. Thank you for putting words to it, because now I can search Pinterest with a more precise verbiage.

Love this. I think I’ll always be a 90s girl with my style. always been a little hippie witchy eccentric ..majorly inspired by the shows I grew up with. I also love the sexy minimalistic vibes of the 90s too like slip dresses and leather blazers. Also that color green and velvet is EVERYTHING. It looks great with your skin tone and hair color.

I stumbled on your video and hadn't even heard of whimsigoth but i totally relate. Been dressing mostly goth since the mid 90's when i was a teen and back then we just called it grunge. lol but whimsigoth totally fits and is definitely how i mostly dress. Lacey skirts with band tee's and flannels, some kind of combat boot or victorian style shoe. I wore docs back in high school and converse allstars. Dark eye makeup, dark lip, dark nail polish, etc. big, dark purses.

I dressed in Docs plaid, lots of mixed masculine and fem mixed like docs and flowery long skirts,crochet tops. Mood rings, pentagram necklaces, multiple piercings ,we had rainbow,tribal, rucksacks only carried on one shoulder !!my room smelt like candles joss sticks, paisley wall hanging etc…I still have my moon,stars wind chimes with beads on hanging down. I'm glad this style has a name now because I always had a hard time describing it to people or searching for the right kind of stuff since it didn't really have a name back in the day. I currently dress in a masculine equivalent of this style since I transitioned as a trans man (add in some 80's occult heavy metal mixed in with the 70s rock and 90s grunge and you have my style), but growing up as a kid I wore witchy bell sleeves every now and then. It was the one type of feminine clothing I didn't mind wearing as much. xD I always called it "witchy boho" or "boho goth."

Yay i am so thrilled to have a new word besides “witchy/witchcore”. I was a “90s freak” but nobody younger knows what that means and now freak has sexual connotations lol… so i describe it as some combination of hipster/emo/witchy/hot topic/fantasy/academia/old world/romantic/boho/renaissance fair/torrid/earth trading/metaphysical… and they look at me like i’m confused and nuts lol… i am more eclectic but not maximalist, and i like a touch of modern glam and im obsessed with fairies. i dont really feel comfortable with the “witch” connotations especially when trying to describe a vibe to conservative/religious people. I love the aesthetic. but i dont do witchcraft. i am new agey, not pagan. And if its a real witch they assume i am a liberal/witch so that gets awkward when they start talking about politics/spellwork. So that lands me squarely into a political/religious Christian-witch conservative/liberal conversation, which is an awkward/controversial debate i dont want to have everytime i am fkg describing my style!

@cynamonowacma2 жыл бұрын
I second this! Some things that came to mind are 70's style flared jeans or loose linen trousers, unbottoned collar shirts (bonus if it has pirate style frills or a jabot), vests, oversized cardigans and micro scarves. Everything in darker muted colours, vintage patterns and interesting textures of course that'd add the edge to an otherwise 'vanilla' hippie outfit. You could also accessorise with the same sort of Boho crystal jewellery without it taking away from the masculine vibe. A few celebrities that I thought of could serve as inspo are Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison or even some casual Florence Welch.

For me I like to wear darker colored vintage floral button ups, and like Marta F mentioned the pirate style shirts work as well as those mens shirts with the lace up front, oversized cardigans and micro scarves. Dark burgundy or wine red pants are amazing too, I love wearing those. I also love darker colored paisley scarves as well. You can also wear a lot of the same jewelry with moons and stars, crystals etc. Also found a pretty cool cheap belt on Amazon with a snake shaped buckle that can easily work with masc outfits. I wear it all the time, it's my fav belt. xD

I spent my teens living through the 90's I love Grunge, Indie, Bohemian style. I hate how people come with new terms without researching the words properly. Goth came out in the 80's from the British Punk era. To be Goth ment to only wear black. I'd say this style is far more Indie, Gypsy, Spiritual, Bohemian, and has always been around. Many of the bands you mentioned were classed as Grunge, Indie rock.
@angelycaviolet2 жыл бұрын
Babe, it ain’t that serious! Most the stuff I said in this video was information from articles, including the bands. I know they are grunge, I listen to The Smashing Pumpkin and The Cranberries all the time. 90’s is my favorite era of rock!
@nadiaishimwe36632 жыл бұрын
Being goth did NOT just mean to only wearing black. They wore deep reds, too. Besides, it was more than just the color black. Silhouettes and jewelry mattered, too. I understand that this style can be less dark, but at the end of the day, these style terms won't lose their core meaning but will *ALWAYS* modernize with the times. No need to upset urself :)

I like you are worried about being correct with hobo but your fine with saying boho witch is completely incorrect and is a rude term. It's rumoni not boho. Boho was given to it by white people taking the culture from the rumoni people and their cultures looks to make an ascetic. Just as many hippies did with the 70s tred of doing indigenous style as if we are not still around in modern day and I get vary affected when other races use my sacred garb and sarimonal tools as an ascetic. My culture is not an astedic. So I respect other cultures like the rumoni that have their own culture and not to call it boho and not just ware stuff for looks but actually know what your waring means and where is it from.
