@Dom Janeczko yeah I was thinking my wife had her Microsoft accounts mixed up. We have 5-6 systems always running between us and the kids. Guy at the store got upset that he couldn't even work it out and then swapped it for 1 worth a lil more for no extra charge. Win win in the long run.

I just need to make sure I know which apps are certainly holding viruses. Thank you, im buying a laptop for my parents and while they are not tech savvy they do prefer some non microsoft apps. I did not want to teach them to use the microsoft alternative. This video was very concise yet still contain the information i was looking for in regards to what exactly the S mode is and how to turn it off with a visual guide (as their laptop will not be in english)

I actually believe that S Mode is good idea for the not tech savy, maybe your grandparents and kids. But not for everyone else it is very limited, if my mother didn't use spss and other similar software I would be very happy to have S mode in her computer, she has given me the greatest troubleshooting challenges throughout the years.

Something has changed, brand new HP laptop with windows 11 home 2 days old out of box from Jb-hifi Australia.. Only try's to sell me pro... All turn off s mode videos are useless from what i see.. hello, I have a small issue. I discovered this ''Get'' button to switch out of S mode yesterday, I clicked on it hoping it would be removed in seconds or a couple of minutes, but it just kept saying ''Working on It'' for an entire night and even more hours since I let it working, went to bed and when I woke up it was still ''Working on It''. If it still hasnt done it, try closing the Microsoft store app if it will let you, and then go back in and try again If it wont let you, then try rebooting the computer, and then go back in and try again

This doesn't work for a local account, you have to sign up for an account. I refuse to sign up for a Microsoft account. I also refuse to sign up my minor child under 18 for a Microsoft account. So genius......how do we use a new computer without a Microsoft account? Didn't think so.

Okay, let's say I want/need to download some non-Microsoft-Windows-owned things and have to take off "S" Mode, and once I do that, I can't go back if I want to download or renew any subscription for any MS/Windows. So this is a problem I’m facing, I had a Lenovo idea pad literally today and it wouldn’t let me switch out of that. Every time I hit “go to Microsoft store” I never got the get button to show up. Only when I tried to download a non Microsoft app did I get the prompt to switch out of s mode, then it would take me to the store and show me the get button only to not do anything when I clicked it. I thought it could have been the laptop, so I just bought a new one about an hour ago. Set it up and tried to switch out of s mode and when I click s mode in the activation settings, it doesn’t expand at all or give me the link to the store. So I tried to go and get the get button by downloading a non Microsoft app to get the prompt telling me to switch out of s mode. Which worked but when I click on the “get” button it still doesn’t work.

I don't really like to be that annoying person in the comments, nonetheless I have a slight issue in which I still cannot download all the apps I want to. Basically, I turned off S mode and it still shows that I have to change the type of software to open an app. Thank you anyways, and have a good day dude! If you PC is new... return it and get one that does not have S mode. Ask for that specifically. Walmart employees won't have a clue. Go to Office Max. Their prices are competitive

sadly yes. The good news is you can deactivate the MS account as soon you transition to full mode.

I went to system and it does not say s mode, but i click on the google chrome desktop icon and it goes straight to bing. In other words,my settings say chrome is my default browser, but it defaults to bing browser ! UPDATE! I figured it out! I had to go to the Chrome settings and go to "on startup" and and click "open the new tab page". MS must have stuck Edge in there to open because I sure didn't!

I don't get it, I'm trying to install Office 2019 on win 11 pro. I get the S mode error message but, when checking ''system information'' it says win 11 pro'' NO mention of S mode. Thanks for the help. I'm a long-time laptop user and have never even HEARD of S-mode. And who TF wants a laptop you cant load apps other than "mommy" MSFT wants you to? You helped me out here but the one who benefitted the most is the BestBuy tech that I was going to RIP tomorrow for selling me an anchor.

I think you're being incredibly generous in your S mode description. In all actuality, S mode is microsoft's way being able to extremely limit what your PC can do by copying Apple and forcing people to only use apps they make money on. You will be using what app they tell you to use, how they tell you to use it, with very few, if any, choices of apps for a specific function. Microsoft says they are doing this to keep the system safer, if it didn't contribute heavily to the number of apps they sell, and the amount of money they can make when a person could otherwise get a free app, they wouldn't bother.

Interestingly enough I was trying to get a client's new laptop out of the S Mode about a month ago and could not. Kept getting this message over a couple of days. "Try again Something happened and we couldn't start the upgrade" I never did get it out and the client had to return the computer to amazon. Fortunately the return went well.

This video was very detailed and to the point but I’m still having trouble finding s mode! When I go to my system information it shows Microsoft Windows 11 home And that’s it no s mode or anything, when I got to the store 2 different ways it says s mode is not running on my device and the other option is to upgrade to windows 10/11 pro and I know that’s not it! But I still get the message about downloading only from Microsoft store, when I try to change app recommendations advanced app options isn’t even in the app settings, I’ve done and understood everything but just don’t see the s mode option anywhere at all please help me!! Depends, if you just plan to check out the news and watch you tube it’s not essential. If you download a lot of stuff then I’d say so.

@@zaneblane8160 if you have windows 10/11 you already have MS Defender which has all the basic anti virus features you would need like scanning, active threat protection and firewall protection. You can learn more about it here. I am having windows 11 pro and not windows home S mode, but the system is preventing me from installing Mcafee antivirus. I decided to deactivate windows defender but still, I keep getting an error when I want to install Mcafee. Any help, thanks

I am keeping the S mode on my Surface Go 3 to maintain the current good performance and the adequate battery life. I only used the tablet for browsing, MS Office, and media consumption.

Doesn't work for me. When I go to open store, I get a pop-up window that says, "you'll need a new app to open this ms-windows-store link." Apparently, the microsoft apps store is not on my windows 11 laptop.

Hi there, I followed all the steps until we get to the GET button. When I click on the GET button nothing happens, I do not get the pop-up window. saying I am all set. Is there anything else I have to do in order to make it work?

here is how i did it. i tried everything on youtube but nothing worked. you need to reset the pc or laptop completely after that continue with instalation. then when asked to sign in just click i have no account and enter a name just name then click next, later on you need internet connection sign in but do not click connect automatically, after accept the extra options like location and diagnostics all of them when done installing do not do anything except going straight to the microsoft store from the start menu and nothing else go to switch s mode and select get. it will ask to sign in your ms account then sign in but only then. after that it either you will get error message because you would get disconnected (reconnect internet_ )and try again that is how it worked for me I believe there is something wrong with newer version of the store. if you try to download anything and run it it would start ms store update and run it newer version of crap store. i hope this will help

I did this and it worked until I updated my laptop's BIOS then it came right back and I can no longer turn it off . Very frustrating.
