Grooms families demanding dowry from the brides family is a Hindu practice and many Pakistani and subcontinent families are guilty of doing this. May Allah guide us all.

Mahr is simply a wedding gift that a groom gives to his bride to be, most preferably before they get married. And yes this mandatory in Islam. And the mahr does not have to be a lot or beyond his capacity. Please my dear brothers and sisters keep the nikah and mahr as simple as you can.

wa alaykum assalaam. will you make one more on this subject but more specific divorce is intaking and haqq mehr is not payed. can you pls get around this subject? n if its a manipulating and abusive relation ship w threats to leave the wife but in the end wife gets enough and leave what about the haqq mehr then when its not payed or is payed

Mehr is not dowry but wedding gift portion. Dowry is given by parents and not by husband

Not a small amount of mahr a wife only gets 12.5% of her husband wealth when he dies. A large amount is needed.

So ulamah can modify the Quran ! where are these three types of Mahr in the Quran ??? When ulamas has rejected the Quran, what will happen then ? [6:116] Sahih International And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying.
