To all of you that watched this video and want to become firefighters one day. I too was a jr. firefighter. We called it an explorer program here on the west coast. That program was and still is awesome. It helped me tremendously. I am now a Fire Captain with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and have been with this great department for the last 22 years. I'm a junior 17 on a rural fire dept (not many members) have been to over 40 calls and have had to on multiple occasions go inside of a structure fire, House, barn and a travel trailer because of lack of members. (Only 3 arrived on scene)

I started at age 13 as a cadet , I retired at age 32 as chief investigator , it's worth every minute of it

Keep at it! Joined at 14 and progressed thru the ranks and am now an assistant chief and paramedic. These programs will keep us in business.

I too started as a Junior Firefighter, 1 of 9 remaining Volunteer Fire Departments within 5 boros of NYC. Started at 13/14 and at turned 18 in 2000. I'm the Ex.-Chief of West Hamilton Beach VFD Queens, NY. Volunteer Pride! It made the man I am today. Never stop learning, Combat ready always and train. Listen and learn from the senior man and/or women! Take classes and learn the task of the JOB. Know your response area and study SOP SOGS.

Im a explorer and my favorite thing its not cookie cutter or has imitations due to welth. We volunteer ,clean trucks, do some fun but also involving classroom learning and go on field and do physically demanding tasks while also having to foucus on the complex task at hand. While for the things we do seem small in our small community with only 6 explorers it makes a large difference for our fd.

I have been in the junior/cadet program for 3 years and absolutely love it. When I turn 18, I plan on either volunteering or working at my fire house while in college to become a paramedic. I am still not sure which one I want to become but for sure want to be a first responder!

There is a vol. FD near me that also is mostly people younger than 18 years old. There are only a few adults on the department. They had to get special permission from the Ontario Canada govt to allow these young people to respond to actual calls but the need was there so they ok’d it. They get mostly auto X calls due to them living in the transcanada Hwy.
