If you're ever visited London and caught a glimpse of the guards outside of Buckingham Palace, you know the uniformed men are all business. Life inside the royal residence is fascinating, but have you ever wondered what the guards protecting the queen see on a daily basis? What kind of rules do they have to follow? What's the craziest thing to happen on their watch?
Some former members of the Queen's Guard shared their experiences on Reddit. Their stories may change your understanding of the stoic boys in red and black.

On reddit there was a video of the guard marching back to their barracks after a guard change. They went past a maybe 4 year old kid in a guard costume. The kid saluted the guards. They marched past to their barracks. Then one came back out to take a photo with the kid.

@@jf752 I think I've seen the one your talking about. He steps over him but it is very close. Kid is about 10 and they announce themselves several times loudly and to make way. Kid should have known stand with everyone else or move to where they are. But ultimately it is a parenting failure. Where where they? I doubt they just happend to be in the area and where there for just that but mucking around and not paying attention. It is the parents fault. At the last second the Kid does a kind of duck and the soldier does like a long step over him and doesn't make any contact with him. But it is very close.

Transferring in & out - bollocks, you talk rubbish. The Guards Battalions are formed units. Soldiers can be posted out to training units, reserve units as training staff, Parachute Company, UN and; SF to name the usual. Guards were moved back only for the reason of the IRA threat. You made so many mistakes in this that i'm begining to wonder about your quality of research on everything. The british army wore bearskins in the field from 1768-1777 and then they were dropped from anything but full dress as impractical. The current design came after 1815 when the 1st foot guards became the only troops to defeat the grenadiers of napolean's guard face to face-and why they became known at the grenadier guards. The grenadiers wear a WHITE plume, not a red one. the trousers are not 'black' but oxford blue. soldiers can spend their entire career in the same regiments. the guards, besides being great looking guards are also elite, front linre troops-the welsh and scotts guards fought in the falklands war-they were not in red there. Canadian, Australian and other nations may provide guards but they are not a part of the brigade of guards. The walking around is to releave the body tension. The weapons are not ceremonial-have a look, they are the current SOTA assault rifles. seriously did you do ANY research or just flipped through a tourist folder?

The equivalent in the US would be the guards who patrol the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They're all fully trained, active duty servicemembers, who got an assignment for ceremonial guard. They can and WILL fuck you up if you get in the way of them performing their duties, same as the queen's guard.

Eh, I’d say the equivalent would be the Marines that guard the White House. But, yea, the Sentinels are badass. At least they guard something worthwhile. Not a family that has no use other than tabloid headlines.

The most advanced ancient Royal elite super superior ancient civilized nations. Made sure all their loyal subjects were able to live and die to the highest standards of quality that were available during that time. and they can do this without anyone overstepping their boundaries. Because the end result of such a lifestyle. Is constant consisting physical mental financial spiritual progress occurring within each and every moment of life. Just a point of fact...that isn't Big Ben. That was Elizabeth Tower, formerly Clock Tower. Big Ben is the bell inside the clock tower. I thought since the name of the channel is Wierd History, this point might be worth mentioning, the "Wierd" part notwithstanding.

The bearskin cap was adopted after defeating Napoleon Royal Guards and it has a wicker frame the plum are to help the General to see the position of the Regiments. And the Grenadier plum is White not Red. And the SA80 rifle are real so you best back of. Oh and that shot of the guard punching a chap is Scam he has no curb chain or buff belt .I get upset when people show no respect to any service personnel who may have to put their lives at risk stay safe and respect each other
