How he is still not pursued by the media is beyond me. He associated with some very interesting criminals who were into more than just trafficking under age girls. The RF were never going to let him testify in court, let alone in a country where they have no influence, but he and the queen both have questions to answer about the whole affair. She is the head of state and not only pays an incredible sum of money to keep the public from hearing the truth in what may well be a criminal matter, she seems to have effectively ended the medias interest in the story and its broader implications of corruption and criminality potentially affecting more people than just Andrew. Did anyone ever talk to the staff of the pizza shop Andrew visited on the day of the crime?

Why would he be in prison. The law suit was civil not criminal so no jail time in consideration. Financial compensation is the desired outcome in civil cases - not jail.

I do not really think it would be wise to be in the royal family. Why? Well, in my opinion, their lives, and their jobs are dictated from the moment they are born. They are essentially prisoners. They have to work every single day, from childhood through to their death bead, in a job that they did not even choose. They do not just get to decide they do not like it and want to go and work for example at a supermarket. They are stuck with it forever, even long past retirement age. They cannot make mistakes because the whole world is watching. They cannot make mistakes because the whole world is watching. They have no chance at being “normal“ - just going out for a day or a shopping trip. And on top of that, everyone has an opinion about them. That’s why I think it isn’t the best to join the royal family.

@@montejr6992 they simply don’t. 1.7 billion is attributed to them because thats roughly the estimated value generated from tourism to royal properties. Nobody is going to see the royals just their houses. France literally has more tourists visiting their castles cause they simply have more. Nobody visits the UK for the royal family just their stuff. Literally no one cares about the royal family enough to travel to the uk just for them. This doesn’t even take into account the amount of people who simply visit a royal residence on a whim while in the uk for something completely different. Not to mention their influence of bills and laws being passed despite them supposedly having no power. They are simply a drain on the economy of the uk, they collect tax payer money and do fuck all. Well, I just stumbled across this comment, and let me tell you: I fully agree with you. Almost every person on our planet knows the British royal family-their members, traditions, history etc., but keep in mind, there are still 43 countries in the world that are still ruled by a monarch, not only in Europe. Do not get me wrong, I like the British Royal family, they are without a doubt one of the most influential families in the world, but there is still a bunch of people that think that the UK is the only remaining monarchy. Scandinavia, The Arabian Peninsula, South-eastern Asia, and Benelux are just a few regions, where the Royal family remain as an important part of the national identity.

In one sense you’re right, they’re not exactly breaking their backs. They’re not rulers in the political way. But public relations and diplomacy are super important. Forging ties with other countries and acting as a neutral party administrator for in state governance (both in regard to politicians and the general populous) is really important. The president does all this stuff too, they just also do the work of the prime minister. Having a political officer as our chief diplomat isn’t necessarily the best thing. In a time where American politics have become so polarizing that we can’t even agree on what the facts are, I can’t help but wonder if it might be beneficial for us to have a politically neutral person to act as ambassador, mediator and public figure. The closest thing we have is the First Lady who is implicitly biased. Having that unifying dignitary to address the people and be a rallying point has been really advantageous to the British people, particularly during wwii. They’re also not explicitly religiously affiliated like the pope, who performs a similar role.

I think you underestimate the work that the Royal Family is doing. Maybe they don't work as hard as a coal miner or someone who has multiple jobs, but it also isn't the easiest job in the world. Being a member of the Royal Family means that your whole life you dont have any privacy, constant press and just enorm pressure on you. Travelling, signing, greeting, performing speeches and so on. It's true that they have a representative function but nonetheless they are important for the people of many countries. Over the 70 years by example the Queen was always that one person who always had our back, even through the tough times. She represented the tradtitions, calmness and stability in humanity and I think many people are greatful for that.

It has rarely happened in modern times. The Sovereign -- or a Governor General -- refusing to sign legislation would create a Constitutional crisis -- whether in the U.K. or elsewhere in the Commonwealth, as nothing can become law without Royal Assent. While formally detached from politics, the Monarch still has three Constitutional Powers: To Counsel (I don't think that would be a good idea); To Warn (This will not be good for the country, please reconsider); and, To Object (If you present this to me, I will not sign it -- so you'd better find a way to fix it, or you will be forced into an election. Do you really want that?) To put it simply the Sovereign CAN'T say to the government 'I want you to do this' (at least, publicly, but there are ways to get the message across 😏); but CAN say, privately, 'If you do this, I won't like it, and if necessary, I will take it to the people, making your life very difficult. A Governor-general has the power to 'consult with the Sovereign' and vice-versa if a concern arises. If, in the end, the Sovereign refuses consent -- which hasn't happened in a very long time since it's supposed to be a democratic, collaborative process -- Parliament would automatically be dissolved, and refusal to dissolve could lead to destructive division and civil unrest. The Sovereign also has much latitude when it comes to foreign, as compared to domestic, policy and affairs. The last Commonwealth Constitutional crisis came in Australia in 1975, where, after multiple failures and scandals from the Whitlam Labour government, and facing revolts from State and Territorial leaders, Governor-General Sir John Kerr wrote: "Because of the principles of responsible government a Prime Minister who cannot obtain supply" (that is, who has lost support of the Premiers and can't get financial legislation passed by both Houses, paralyzing the country), "including money for carrying on the ordinary services of government, must either advise a general election or resign. If he refuses to do this I have the authority and indeed the duty under the Constitution to withdraw his Commission as Prime Minister. And, after much consultation and negotiation by all parties, Sir John did just that: He dissolved the government and called an election. It's complicated -- as it should be.

@@Weegschaal I appreciate your patience and willingness to have a discussion. That being said, couldn't all of that be done, and not on the tax payers dime? I am of the firm belief that all forms of government should represent the heart of the nation, or be as close to it as possible within the confines of nations housing so many diverse peoples. I see elected officials coming and going as a good thing. They ensure, hopefully, a continued and up to date representation of the people. The monarchy is not beholden to that, not truely. I have no issues with a mascot, but this is an expensive one. People just as easily unite under a flag, flag culture is very important where I'm from. I recognize if it might be different elsewhere, but people respect the flag just as much as the monarchy don't they? People fight and die for flags because they represent home, they represent the nation. In my opinion, as someone with no military experience mind you, I feel like it's better for the soul to unite under the banner of the nation than it is to unite for a small group of people. The royal families benefits would still exist if they weren't in government. Donating to charity, representing the nation, ect. The only difference is that A) They will be reping as citizens and B) They'd be funding it out of the kindness of their heart and not as a means to appease a public that didn't elect them. The tradition could still be alive, they could run for elected positions, they could even take donations as opposed to a royal grant! I'd rather a nation's face be represented by the reputation of it's citizens and the justness of it's laws. Better or worse, that's the most honest way to do it. The most moral way, right? Sorry, I know that's a lot. I'm not sure why the goings on of a nation not my own has me so fired up, except for the fact that they are my worldly neighbors.

He did not have the miserable existence that we were led to believe, but had a very happy life (between the ghastly fits he suffered). The family (with the exception of the future King Edward VIII) made visits as often as possible, as he visited the palace. He had a devoted nanny who gave him an education which suited him rather than a conventional one, and there's even an interview with a very elderly lady (made at the time of the discovery of the new information) who spoke about how she and the village children used to play with him.

Agree, this is most likely why she's aged well as well. The activity. Simply being active. Active mind, body, spirit. Just moving and doing things. I was truly amazed at the fact both her and Phillip have (did) live for sooo long. Regardless, I cant hold the fact she's "involved" against her being an outsider, regardless of my or others personal views of their various stances Im not aware of. To me, she's like Betty White was, "at least she was involved".

@@camtwan1 camtwan1, friend, the role the british royal family plays in government has been quite complex, it is not as you imagine and you should read about the biography of Elizabeth and the history of the XXth century before passing judgement. In a very real sense, Elizabeth has forfeited her freedom in order to advance the interest of the british state in the world stage. I live in Spain and the ex monarch Juan Carlos I, fled a couple of years ago to live in exile in one of the middle eastern emirates. He spent the decades prior receiving bribes from foreign governments and living a life of decadent luxury, despite not having any wealth when he was restored as monarch after Franco the dictator died. Juan Carlos was a good for nothing thief, it's a shame. That is not the case with Elizabeth, get more info please

@@camtwan1 camtwan, to expand on my last message, I call Juan Carlos I of Spain a thief because he accepted a deal where the spanish state buys oil and gas from the gulf states at extremely high price, as result propane and butane in Spain is absurdly expensive and many people can't afford a warm house in the winter, specially older people. We are lucky winters in Spain normally aren't as harsh as in the rest of Europe; still some folk do die every year in winter from the cold. In exchange, Juan Carlos received 1 million dollars every time a ship of liquified gas came to Spain from one of the gulf states. That is a criminal for you. He went to exile cause here there are courts looking to question him over chages of illicit enrichment. That coward rat 😠

Imagine a clan of protohumans, consisting of multitudes of families. Many families tended to behave counter to forming a larger, peaceful society but a few families tended to behave exemplary in areas valued by the majority of the multitudes of families, and a very few were instrumental in countering the anti-societal behaviors of the multitude not by ruling, but by proving that better behavior results in better life for all. The crescendo was reached aeons ago and has now faded into the modern "Royal Family". I see them as a placeholder for all those whose shoulders we stand on; how they see themselves is irrelevant. This is part of what the Prince's Trust does: "The Prince's Trust is one of the most successful funding organisations in the UK and is the UK's leading youth charity, having helped over 1,000,000 young people turn their lives around, created 125,000 entrepreneurs, and given business support to 395,000 people in the UK." And that's just one of his charities. The former royals, Harry and Meghan fit your "oxymoron" description.
