Because assuming the guy will pay and sitting back comes across as gross and entitled. So reaching for the purse is like a gesture of "well...I COULD pay" while very much hoping men will wave that off.

It's pretty unfair to men. Idk why women can't split the check. We aren't in a society where women can't work anymore, I feel like we should be equals. For me it's not about the money so much as it is about being treated as equal as a man

The problem is I think there should be conversations about this in the media and people should be guided about some stuff. It might sound silly but I think it's true. I hate people paying for me. No matter what's the occasion or who that person is. So I'm always insisting on paying my half or just paying for the whole meal. But I've realized that sadly some guys treat you differently after that. I was seeing this guy who just expected me to pay for everything and when he paid, he acted a bit annoyed like he'd been paying this whole time and I was taking advantage of him. Many people don't even realize it but they are more comfortable with behavior they claim to hate or dislike.

@@daughterofCyrustheGreat : I like the honesty of these type of videos. I dated a girl who liked to pay, which was weird for me, so I got her to accept splitting. I did it mostly because my meals were usually more expensive than hers.

@@mikal030 I think when the society forces stereotypes on people, everyone's just unsatisfied and confused. I find gender roles very problematic. There's always so much contradiction and different opinions. So there's always unnecessary conflict. Men think they should be the ones who pay, so when the girl offers, they get uncomfortable. Like it goes against their masculinity. At the same time because there's been so much conflict between what is expected of them and what they should be doing, if the woman doesn't insist on paying, they get angry because they think why does she assume I should pay? And that's correct. I don't believe men should pay. I think there's no reason for that. It goes the same with women, they don't know if they should just offer and then give up quickly or insist because they don't want the guy to think she looks at him like an ATM. That's why I prefer to pay for the whole meal than let the guy pay for me because I hate that look that some of them have when they assume you plan to do this all the time and he should pay for everything. The media always pours gas on the fire too instead of using experts to help show a better behavior example in situations like these. Couples should treat each other regardless of gender. That's why a lot of people like going out with their friends more than their dates. It's far less complicated. Sorry for the long comment.
