At my school all were told to do is turn off the lights sit in a corner and close the door, how's that gonna help? Shooter: Oh it's 11am on a Tuesday, the parking lots full, but the door is closed. Guess it's empty.

+Colin G Well... despite there being 160 shooters all over the US, the odds are still much greater of your kid being raped, getting struck by an epidemic or hit by a car than it getting in an active shooting incident. Should we train them against rape, give them mouth masks all day long and forbid all traffic around schools for this reason? This training prepares for something that might happen (and then possibly saves dozens of lives), but while doing so, causes post-traumatic stress with a few hundred pupils (and now I'm pulling it to a stretch... possibly this might be the root trauma for our next generation shooter)
@JHattsy8 жыл бұрын
+Jurgen Gaeremyn The rate of shootings is going up and up, they're becoming more common because the media is talking about them so much. They're making them this big thing, people are doing it to make the news. These people need to be prepared for this.

I’m a school teacher and last month they did an unannounced lockdown and my heart sank and I shook as I was hiding the kids under the tables and telling them to be quiet. Someone came to shake the door and I signaled them to be quiet. When the principal said it was just a drill I went into the closet and bursted our crying without the kids seeing me. This is not why I went into teaching, the government need to change their laws instead of training us how not to die.

When I was in middle school, we had an unannounced ‘intruder drill’ too- our principal went on the intercom and gave a distinct location of where the ‘shooter’, what gun they said and what they were wearing. The police would bang stuff against the walls to sound like bullets and it was the worst feeling hearing them slowly march on down the corridor. The classroom I was in was relatively close to the said location and we had to run. I remember everything I felt, I was so so nervous and people were having panic attacks, tripping and shoving each other trying to make it down the hallway, and I remember my friend who was in crunches at the time falling mid hallway in the sudden rush hour and I cried so hard once we were all outside. We ran so far, about a block and a half down. Everyone was uncontrollably sobbing. I mean, we were just 11 - 13 year olds. It lasted 30 minutes before we were all sent back to our classrooms and the day just went by as normal, but god, I will never forget the rawness I felt and the adrenaline I shouldn’t have had to survive. I can’t believe how terrifying this must be for actual victims, and my heart goes out to the recent Uvalde shooter victims and families.

i was 12 years old when sandyhook happened and 17 when parkland happened. i have a younger sibling by 2 years. the 2 years i was in high school with her were the most stressful because i had to worry about more than just myself. i dont think people who graduated out of k-12 before 2014ish realize how real this is for many of us. it could be any regular day at school and i'd constantly be looking for an exit plan. always thinking "what would you do in this very moment if...". i memorized my sibling's schedule so that i always knew where they should be in case something went down. even now, i still have this part of my brain always thinking about the best escape route/form of defense every time im anywhere. i'm jealous of some of the people who got to grow up before this was a regular occurrence, especially before columbine. y'all wonder why gen z is so fucking anxious and depressed, but we have a reason to be. even when u know it's a drill, it's still really scary (some people act cool, but tbh i think it's just them trying to not think about how theyre actually feeling). these drills are extremely important. those shooters are gonna come 1 way or another, you might as well prepare them for it in case it happens to them.

This happened at my school, Freshman year girls P.E the police department didn’t even talk with our school about it, they sent a deputy in undercover a Science teacher noticed the gun and told kids to run to a classroom started grabbing kids shoving them inside his classroom, our vice principal came over the intercom in panic, we hid in a bathroom for at lest 1 hour, if it was real, My science teacher deserves a metal or something, He was brave to call it out, and start grabbing kids. The trauma from that day, still lingers, kids can’t have headphones in the hallway and all teachers must stand outside there classrooms to watch.

I don't understand how siting behind a desk can help you survive a school shooting
@Jmyster47 жыл бұрын
If the door is locked, most people won't bother breaking it down. If they can't see you, they probably won't shoot you. There is a difference between concealment and cover, and often they are equally good at keeping you from getting shot.
@BloodthirstyPikachu7 жыл бұрын
Jmyster4 ummm idk about you but if I was a shooter I'd just kick down the door/shoot the lock off. It's not hard to kick down a door. It's like 12 in the after noon and the lights are all off? Lol please I know there's kids present. If they are hiding in the corner all bunched up they would be easy to fire at. I think it's better that kids are trained so they might actually have a slight chance of survival

Dylan Dietz It keeps you out of view, ergo, avoids making you a target. A shooter is a lot less likely to successfully shoot someone that he can't even find. And they probably won't waste time trying to break down a door if they can't see potential targets inside.

There was a threat to my school once. It was an online non specific threat so we weren’t in any danger but we all thought it was really happening. My and my sisters ran into a classroom during lunch time. We went into the corner of the room on the floor. We had our backpacks in front of us and were freaking out. The teacher and students were complete idiots. She said “Ok we don’t know what’s going on but you can keep talking and eating lunch. Everyone was moving and making noise. Me and my sisters didn’t stop hiding until near the end when 1) we finally got information and 2) we heard no gunshots. During the whole thing I was texting my mom and I freaked out my dad. I was holding a chair to throw. (In hindsight I would have been too scared to). Basically if a shooter was actually in my school, I most likely would have been dead.

About 2 days ago I had a lockdown drill in between classes, and thats the 2nd time ever that my school has ever had one between classes as they are usually like the standard ones which are during class. They only started doing that because of how frequent these shootings are becoming, which is honestly very sad knowing thats the reason. Its honestly scary though having these drills between classes because most students in my school all hangout in the lobby between classes which makes it very loud and hard to hear the intercom. So when they did it I never heard them say it and all of a sudden I saw students running into classrooms and teachers yelling at us to get inside. This literally terrified me and my friends because we had no idea if it was a drill (which it was) or if it was real. I know its not as terrifying as some of these other school drills but Its still just the fact that us students in America even have to do these kinds of drills so frequently.

Several years ago a school shooting occurred at the high school I attended. Except this shooting was done by the school resource officer (also a local police officer) who shot and killed a deranged man who entered the school, following a student who was late getting there. The school immediately went into lock down and the resource officer confronted the man who was armed with guns and intent on using them, in the hallway. She tried at first to diffuse the situation but when she was unable to do so she shot & killed him before he could endanger anyone else. The school was Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, TN. The officers name is Carolyn Gudger, and in my hometown she is a hero. She is the perfect example of what a school resource officer should be. A courageous woman who did her job, putting her life on the line for the students/faculty she was hired to protect. I was very disappointed that there was not a lot of media attention surrounding this incident, except for locally of course. I just really wanted people to see what a difference having a well trained, courageous police officer who takes their promise to protect and serve seriously on campus can make in these situations. I share this story so that the world will learn about this hero that is among us by the name of Carolyn Gudger

I don't know how the law stands in America, however if you did that in the UK and were stopped, you'd get away with it as long as you didn't injure anyone or do 130mph past a school zone. The courts take emergencies into consideration. You can drive a car without a license in the UK for certain emergencies.

My ex-wife was pulled over by the police whilst doing 90mph in 60mph speeding zone/limit. She told the police she was racing to get to me - I'd rolled my car 7 times and the ambulance hadn't arrived at that time. They then put the lights and sirens on and escorted her, in her car, to where I had had my traffic accident (incident). Obviously there are certain limits to doing this and I suppose it's also down to the police officer(s) discretion. The person who called her (my witness) was in shock and told her that there was nothing left of my car (which there wasn't, it was spread all over the road and in an adjacent field, some 100 or so metres away). Luckily I was wearing my seat belt and no one else was injured.

When I was in elementary school we would get a small announcement and hide in the corner quietly until the announcement happened again, when I got to middle school the drill changed. The teachers would get a call and turn off the lights telling us to hide locking the doors and the school staff banging and screaming on the doors. I thought that was a bit scary but this is terrifying. It’s sad that we have to train for events like these 😢

Wanna hear a funny story ? (Well not that funny, even not funny at all.) My friend, last year, was in class. Everyone knew there would be a shooting drill, so when the alarm was ringing we just do what we do as usual. But them ? They didn't know. Even the teacher. They were screaming, we heard through all the building. The teacher freaked out and hidden herself under her desk. My friend sent messages to her mother, because she tough she were going to die. Cool, uh ? We don't even know to stay calm in France. Hopefully I grade-skipped and I'm not in this school anymore... I feel bad for my friends.

British schools don’t have school shooter drills because there hasn’t been a school shooting in this country since Dunblane in 1996. You might have fire drills and if you live near the sea then storm drills, but in my 12+ years of education in multiple schools there has never been a shooting drill. Quit your bullshit, kiddo.

I remember when in my high school when it wasn't a drill. The school was put on lockdown due to sightings of a couple of armed kids roaming the halls. It turned out to be props later on but we didn't know that at the time. We were a school with magnet programs, essentially a separate school focused on various fields for those unfamiliar, and had prospective students and parents in on tour at the time. It was brutal for them, but oddly, there was a weird calm that fall over me and, from what I heard, most of the other students. While I'm not sure about the main school classes, we had begun to arm ourselves and prepare escape plans if the rooms had access to the outside. I know I was prepared to die that day, and I know at least a few other shared that sentiment before the lockdown was lifted. Apparently we made a good impression on the people visiting with how we were managing, one room even had a baby that the class helped keep quiet. But after that, business as usual. Oddly enough, after the threat passed we mostly continued on with our day, though most parents opted to take their kids out of school for the day. It's weird now thinking back on it. But I guess this goes to show just how normalized it is nowadays. I never really think I feel truly safe, there's always a chance that something could come up and blindside you anywhere. I can't really even think about it as sad anymore, it's just part of life. Knowing your exits, having some idea of where to run, and what might make a good makeshift weapon seems kinda second nature at this point. Even in college I feel no different.

if im on the 2nd or 3rd floor I'd probably try and hide in a cabinet or something not in the fucking corner where they could easily see you if they bust down the door. If I'm on the first floor, fuck that I'm leaving out the window.

Happy... but dead. Seriously, in a real life situation, a desperate guy who is shooting kids in a school... How desperate should he be? This guy will fight and kill her in a heartbeat. Here, the dude only use one hand and she was not able to fight back. Very lame demonstration. Or, lesson to learn: this is a bad training.

In real life school shooters are much more rough. At 4:17 the shooter has a clear advantage. She’s behind her and can easily do a choke which can subdue her. Then you know what happens next.

As someone from the U.K, it absolutely breaks my heart on how many children get injured or killed during shootings. The raw fact that a random person thinks: “oh you know what will be fun? Killing kids!” Is (sometimes) on the loose almost petrifying. I hope all kids in America are somewhat safe.

We had an unannounced lockdown drill and then the principal was on the P/A yelling "This is not a drill." Just to add suspense. But even the teachers didnt know it was a drill. Well anyway, so the principal got her husband to pretend to be a shooter and gave him a key to open the doors and also a nerf gun but to pretend it is a real one. But when he came to our class people couldnt see and thought it was a real gun and we were throwing stuff at him and then we broke his arm and 2 of his ribs. But none of us felt bad. Because that is a really fucked up thing to do.

My workshop teacher said if we ever go into lockdown, he would give us hammers and drills and shit to throw at the shooter. And then he told us a story about how his last year class went into lockdown and the shooter got in the classroom where they were hiding and the kids PILED on him and threw hammers, drills and literally anything they could find to hit him with. Savage kids.
