I got LASIK almost five years ago, and it's honestly been a life-changer. Waking up in the morning and being able to see, traveling and not worrying I'll run out of contacts or lose my glasses, being able to swim without extremely expensive prescription googles, watching a movie or even TV and being able to see finer details... It's some of the best money I've ever spent on myself.

Lasik not only improved my vision, it improved my quality of life. Up until my surgery, I dealt with almost daily headaches behind my eyes. My mom was so freaked out by it she had an MRI done on me to make sure there wasn’t something wrong with my brain. After Lasik, NO MORE HEADACHES. My guess is my eyes were under constant strain since my vision sucked so bad, and then factor in the discomfort of contacts too. A month after the surgery, my mom actually cried when I told her I hadn’t had a single headache since.

@@_BMJ_ I had a surgery kind of like lasik but different so I assume the pain would about the same. I have a cornea disease called kerotoconus which causes the cornea to thin and become disformed so I had to have a surgery called crosslinking where they burn a whole into the cornea with alcohol and fill it in with a vitamin solution and cook it with a UV light for 30 minutes. As far as for the pain it really depends on the person. For my first eye the pain was fine and was only bad for a few hours but for my second one it lasted a few days. Ask your doctor for Valium and you can take half a one for anxiety if you have any before but I just saved it for aftrr the surgery to help me sleep and take a large dose of melatonin so you can sleep through the worst part after the surgery.

If you are a canidate, its totally worth it. It just feels like you have an eye lash stuck in your eye for 3-4 days after the sugery, but the pain killers remedy that. Just do your research and be sure to find an opthalmologist who has plenty of experience.
@McGeistly3 жыл бұрын
It is worth it, and the sooner you can get it done the more of a return you get. I went through it this year and I was nervous as hell. They provide you Valium, they directly numb your eye. The machines can pick up on eye movements and will stop instantly if there is a change, and then continue again once it finds the correct alignment again. Your eyelids are held back with specialized surgical tape as shown in the video, and your eye is held in place by something (I couldn't see what it was, but it sets on your eye and applies a little bit of pressure) so your eye movement is mitigated. The flap procedure takes a minute or so, and then you are rotated to the main laser. This takes another minute and then your flap is replaced and you can close your eye. Each eye takes under five minutes for the whole process. I recommend having a family member or friend you can trust help with drops and food/water on the first day, but after that just don't rub your eyes or get them wet. The way they make the flap is pretty incredible. Once they replace the flap it is basically sealed as if the cut was never made. The cornea still needs to heal though, so you don't want to rub your eye or get water in it. The drops and vitamins, if they give you vitamins, help a lot too.

Pros of wearing glasses: - would look cute in certain style - looks slightly intelligent - protects your eyes from dust (protected me from hydrochloric acid once) Cons: - eating hot food is a pain - accidentally sitting on your glasses - forgot that you currently wear glass so you tried to search for it while wearing it - getting out of an air conditioned car is a pain - glasses slides down your nose when its oily - not suitable for all outfits (rarely seen anyone wearing a ball gown with glasses smh) - u gotta change it every few years cuz u get blinder every time - gotta wear it to the bathroom (bcus im that blind) - you cant lie down on lateral side while wearing glasses - you *will* be called a nerd - cant wear cool sunglasses unless u have a custom made prescription on it - u have to bring your glasses even in swimming pool - u cant do extreme activites while wearing glasses so u gotta do it while not seeing anything - have to do daily maintenance of keeping it clean

I am 74 years old and had lasik surgery a year ago. Would I do it again? Absolutely. My procedure was absolutely painless. I never would have thought that eye surgery would be painless, but it was! There was some discomfort around the small surgical area around the eye but unless I bumped the area with my hand I felt no discomfort. There was some "matting" in the eye in the morning after I woke up but that cleared up after 3 days. I continued using the prescribed drops for 10 days to prevent any infection from setting in. Other than that.....no hassles. I lost my near vision but was told about this before surgery so I already had purchased reading glasses. After postponing surgery for 2 years and losing the ability to drive at night this surgery gave my world back to me. Finally to those of you who need this surgery and are frightened about someone poking in your eyes do not fret as this procedure is 99% painless.

Just done my blade Lasik last week No PAIN or PRESSURE during whole surgery But yes after surgery you will feel pressure, itchy, sore eyes. You might not even be able to open your eyes after surgery. All you need is good sleep to calm these issues. Procedure - Whole procedure takes around 40-45 minutes of your time of which 25-30 minutes goes for preparation of your eyes ( numbing and clearing eyes) Main surgery is of just 15 minutes. Mine went pretty well and without nervous as the staff was friendly. What to do after Lasik - Intense eye care No screen time for 2 days Sleep as much as you can Use black Goggles Use white goggle after 2 days of surgery If possible sleep with glasses on to prevent eyes from touching. What not to do - Touch eyes Watching tv mobile right after surgery What you will feel - Blury vision Halo Rainbow in white light Sensitivity to sunlight ( None of this happened to me at least) Overall good results. Happy with surgery.!

Excellent video on PRK. You described the process very well. PRK was approved in 1995 and I had both my eyes done with PRK at 30 and then 90 days after FDA approval (at that time they would only do one at a time.) My surgeon was involved in the pre-approval testing of the procedure. The only variance from your experience was that on my first eye, the surgical bandage contact popped out of my eye at 10pm that evening. At 11pm, the surgeon game me the option of going in and he would come in with the necessary surgical staff to take care of it. I decided to tough-it-out until 7am the next morning by taking a couple big doses (at his direction) of Codeine, and keeping my eyes shut until a new bandage contact was applied. I should have probably gone in at 11pm... it was the most painful evening of my entire life. BUT at about 3 weeks my eyes suddenly stabilized and I tested at 20/25. The best, even with corrective lenses, that I managed to get BEFORE PRK was 20/50. Without corrective lenses I was 20/200. The most striking memory I have of the whole ordeal was walking around my house and seeing crisp edges on EVERYTHING. I had never in my life seen such detail. Fast forward to today (5/28/2022), I still test at 20/25 or 20/30. I don't wear any corrective lenses... this vision is perfect to me. The only variance that I had from your procedure was that I had frequent issues with nystagmus (rapid twitching of the eyeball when attempting to focus on an object), so the surgeon had to literally clamp each eye and as an aid, left my other eye uncovered to help me focus on an object to prevent movement. The downside to this is I got to watch the smoke rise from my other eyeball as the laser did its thing! Again, great video!!

@@wintercoder6687 thank you, very valuable feedback! Why do you think you will need a touch-up? For farsightedness or nearsightedness?
@wintercoder66878 ай бұрын
@@lavstarz Prior to surgery I was very nearsighted. I could see crystal clear everything up to about an inch or closer to my eye. After the surgery, that focal point immediately moved to about a foot from my face. Anything closer took effort.... but suddenly everything far away was MUCH clearer. I'm thinking that I may need a 'touch up' because my ability to read further away is getting just a tiny bit worse. Not bothersome, but I have noticed. Also... one of the side effects of PRK way back then was somewhat of a starburst effect with lights in the dark. That has improved for me over time... but I am curious to find out if currently technology has improved to the point of eliminating that.

I got ICLs implanted half a year ago. The nearsightedness is completely gone - but the operation left me with -0.5 diopters of astigmatism in my left eye, which reduces my visual acuity to 20/13 vision. At least the right eye tuned out okay. Got 20/10 vision without glasses on that one.

LASIK FOR ME WAS THE LIFE CHANGING DECISION My surgery went really good my vision was approx 100% clear within 2 -3 hrs of lasik surgery even the pain after lasik was very minimal it was just irritation and redness and the pain was gone within 3hrs of lasik after 3-4 hrs there wasn't any irritation or redness or pain . My vision became perfect !! All praise to God ❤🎊

I had been looking forward to getting some form of laser eye surgery for just about my whole life. I started wearing glasses when I was around 8. In my mid 20s my glasses prescription finally stopped changing so I went to get assessed for laser and was told that my corneas are too thin so I’m ineligible for any type of laser eye surgery (not enough material to shave away/reshape). Devastated. Destined to be around a -6.5 script and spend way too much money on new glasses and contact lenses forever 😭
@faerioszx2 жыл бұрын
I started around that age to wear glasses and now im in my early 30s and my vission is somewhat stable enough for me to get an eye surgery but the problem is that my cornea is not only thin it is also uneven to the point that if my eyes get dry enough ... well lets just say the pain directly wake me up and blur my vision for almost the whole and make it insanly light sensible ( it feel like something is getting pulled out from my eye constantly ). I see my doctor once a year for check up and the scars that it had created as not worsen and gave me directive to follow to make sure they dont get dry. Once most of the scars are healed i will be able to do the first surgery to correct my cornea ( since trying to do it rn is too dangerous ) and after that i will be able to get the surgery for my vision.
@miirasaika64372 жыл бұрын
Are you not even eligible for ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)? This surgery is an alternative to lasik that doesn't alter/reshape the cornea. It's also recommended to people who has dry eyes.
@ictybtwbc2 жыл бұрын
@@miirasaika6437 I was offered something along those lines but the ophthalmologist essentially tried to talk me out of it (significantly emphasised the risks and things that have gone wrong in previous patients as opposed to speaking about the benefits) which was rather off-putting
@gorechotuma2 жыл бұрын
That’s so weird! My prescription was about -7 in one eye and -7,5 in another and I was eligible..
@ictybtwbc2 жыл бұрын
@@gorechotuma not weird. Genetically my corneas are thin (same issue runs in my family) which means there’s not enough tissue to shave away and reshape to correct my vision. In fact shaving away anything would pose a danger to my eye because it’s just too thin.

Eyes are one of the fastest recovering organs in the human body. My dad was a few of the first to test out laser eye surgery in a certain company that now covers a good amount of lasik surgery in america, I forgot what company they were called. My dad experienced no pain, just a little irritation but his eye healed in less than a day and got the other one done. Hers took a little bit longer due to them doing a different procedure from the lack of moisture. He's now close to 50 and his eyes are still well. Hoping to get mine done sometime near the future It depends on your pain tolerance for post surgery and your body's healing process
@fernandolima2906 Жыл бұрын
I had this surgery a little more than a week now and I didn’t feel any pain at all. So it dependes on the person, not everyone will endure pain. So, just do it! You’re gonna have decades of freedom.

The numbing they put on your eyes causes them to stay still and also completely painless. Before procedures they offer medication such as valium I believe which brings down nerves. You can also probably ask a doctor to prescribe it for you maybe for that event. Going to a good company is the most important thing, due to them having better tech and experience.

Getting eye surgery was the best decision I ever made! Yes, it was painful and the healing was long, but it was sooooo worth it! I went from having 7 in far-sightedness to 20/20 vision.
@towtruckaj Жыл бұрын
The only part that kinda hurt for me was the creation of the flap, Idk if the eye drops didn't fully numb my eye or if it was all mental or what but i did feel that part and it was like a sharp pain in my eye lid not even my eye, but it was brief. As for the healing, it only took me 4 hours to see clearly, a day or two for the dry eyes to go away, and after a week i was done with the eye drops and didn't have any discomfort.

I appreciate the commentary and a play-by-play. I have been going back-and-forth for the last few months thinking about both procedures. My biggest concern is trying to sit still when someone is actually digging in my eye I'm not sure if verset is the drug for me I'm gonna need some kind of paralytic agent to take me through what might be the most excruciating 15 minutes of my life.
@oxanamanoli31752 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing before my surgery 🤣 don't worry you won't feel anything. Before my surgery they put in some anesthetic drops so didn't feel a thing, not that it helped with sitting still, but it didn't affect the operation in any way. The only thing you should worry about is the pain after
@RandomAsh712 жыл бұрын
It does sound horrendous but it isn’t really, in and out in 15 minutes and no dramas.. Don’t be worried about moving about either…! I’m the biggest chicken on this earth and I had LASIK done 20 years ago and it was a life changing moment…So I would say go for it
@gorechotuma2 жыл бұрын
Okay, I was thinking the same (got the surgery yesterday) because I have adhd and extreme anxiety. Had the worst stomach ache the morning of. But it wasn’t so bad! You really can’t feel anything, I felt something maybe like cold/cool on my eyelids after the drops, but I assume it was psychosomatic. Asked specifically if I can hold my hands together on top of my stomach and they said yes, as long as they are not higher then my stomach. It really helped, I just clenched my hands together. Today is the second day, my eyes are slightly dry, but no pain anymore, just really annoyed that I can’t touch them)
@aaronth079 ай бұрын
Get LASIK. Anyways, they gave me Valium but they did the surgery before it even kicked in, you just have to sit very still, but it’s doable with the numbing drops they provide. The worse part is the intense pressure when they cut the flap (in her case not an issue).
