Just want to point a few things out: 1: the track is wooden, but the structure is all steel. 2: the ride is owned by the City of New York and operated by ride manufacturer Zamperla (as part of running Luna Park). They regularly maintain it and act

A ride in the back seat of those trains has been described as being in a serious "car accident", you literally feel the train raising off and slamming back down on to the tracks on the hills. It's a combination of air time, roughness, sharp turns, and cushion seating that simply can't be beat. Never gets old, hands you your @$$ every time ..........

When I first rode this, I sat in the back and the guy operating the ride warned me it was going to be rough. I said "good , I love old wooden roller coasters" and he said "don't say we didn't warn you!". I was not prepared for what I was about to experience. After the first hill I flew out of my seat and hit the lap bar hard and then was smashed around from side to side slamming against the car. It was so old and rickety and shaking back and forth I thought it was going to fall apart and I would land in the ocean. After I limped off the ride the guys chuckled at me. I had bruises all over my thighs and was walking crooked. It's an oldy but a goody!

Alberto Canela My grandfather was born in 1919 and would have been about eight when it opened. His parents used to take him to Coney Island when he was a child. Back then the park had THREE other coasters: Tornado, Steeplechase, and Thunderbolt. All but one was wooden. He screamed his guts out as a boy and had a great time. So did his sons and granddaughters. My nieces (great granddaughters) are next! PS-Thunderbolt unfortunately was too far gone to save and was taken down in 2000. It was OLDER than Cyclone. If you want to see footage of it, watch Annie Hall. It was still functioning then.

Kind of. It's a boardwalk amusement park, so it's pay-per-ride. You can also get the wristband for about $49 that allows you to reride anything (aside from a few exceptions) as much as you want. I mean, they own the coaster, so they're going to make a profit off of it ;)

The front seat pales in comparison to the rear, two separate rides all together. At the rear you’re at the mercy of the heavy old trains flying off and slamming back on the track on hills, whipped around like a toy. The rear seat and ride over all has been compared to being in multiple car accidents in a minutes time. I love NY ❤️💪🏼

Out of all the roller coasters I been on Clyclone is the one I’m never going on again. It was too much for me. I rode all the roller coasters at Coney Island and they don’t even come close to this one. After 4 drops I was already begging for the ride to end. It was way too intense for me. It becomes way scarier if you know how old the ride is. What if a car flies of? Or if a track breaks? How about if one of the weels falls of? When I rode it I knew the ride was old, but not that old! I just found the age of this ride watching this video and all I can say is I’m surprised nothing went wrong

The funny part about this ride is the safety is awful. I rode the Cyclone 2 days ago and it was not the best experience for me. I was in the back seat and the workers said it's the best seat. When I went to the first drop I wanted it to end already. I flew up out of my seat, on all the turns I was hit all over my thighs, and if I didn't hold on to the crossbar, I would probably fall out 😅

Miles Wittig Hell no!!!!!!!!! And the Big Dipper in Santa Cruz was built 3 years earlier in 1924, so it’s also older than the Cyclone
@bartonpercival32162 жыл бұрын
And the SCBB Giant Dipper has that train whistle at the start before dropping into that dark tunnel. The Cyclone in NY it's first drop is a bit taller than the Giant Dipper in Santa Cruz, but the Santa Cruz coaster is much more smoother ride for a wooden coaster!!!!!!! 👍🎢🎠🎡

I live walking distance from it, and honestly, I'm kind of scared to go on the ride. Not because its tall or anything (I've been on King Da Ka), it's just that its extremely shaky as you saw in the recording, and because its so shaky, you can hurt yourself from hitting your head against the seat in the back or crashing into the side. But, it's still a cool ride to try out, especially because you can say you rode a 90 year old rollercoaster or you showed the middle finger to the camera and bought the photo with you showing your middle finger (like I did).

@shadowkitty566 жыл бұрын
By law they have to do inspections of it. Most wooden roller coasters are inspected constantly actually because they need replacement parts. This is not an indication of their own soundness, but rather that's just the way they always have been. El Toro at Six Flags gets inspected every morning and she is much larger than the Cyclone (it would be even more dangerous than Cyclone if they just let it sit there: much farther to fall!! You would be the consistency of goo when you splattered at the bottom; Cyclone would send you to the hospital at best. The oldest coaster in the world that still operates is in Pennsylvania and it was built in 1904. It gets inspected all the time. The Beast is the tallest woodie on earth and It. Is. Inspected. All. The. Time. Ride inspectors usually have to walk the track and inspect every single nut and bolt one by one; they usually have carpentry experience. Cyclone just got a nice refurbishment in Spring 2017 and she passed inspection.

It really irks me when enthusiasts say that every wooden coaster should be RMC'd. Sure, some of the worse ones, like Mean Streak should be RMC'd, but classics like this deserve to stay the way they are. They're historical landmarks and classic wooden coasters. We shouldn't lose all the best wooden coasters to RMC. Only the ones that actually need the treatment.
