Dustin Rodriguez, that is because the sink from a jewish perspective is still tainted with dairy so if one piece of meat touches the dairy sink, it is technically tainted with the dairy and therefore eating meat with dairy. Plus, you can't just eat meat and then eat dairy afterwards, some jews would even wait six hours after eating one of them just to eat the other. And lastly, there is a rabbi in the kitchen because he is a guide. But in average practicing Jewish houses, they could do it on their own because they know how to do it.

To those wondering, keeping kosher is only hard in the beginning when you're not used to it and lack experience doing it. Once you get used to it, it's no different really than not eating kosher. Of course, having a guy with no kosher experience cook a kosher meal for a kosher family under the supervision of a Rabbi makes for decent entertainment lol. The Rabbi is so strict because the Torah says you should be careful to follow all the commandments, which includes the dietary commandments. Mixing meat and dairy in the way Jews see it today might be a bit overkill, but, it's just "being careful". Better to be a little overkill than to accidentally break a commandment knowingly.

Omg! I remember at the deli I worked at you can’t slice the cheese with the meat slicer or knives used on meats or on cutting boards touched by meats. Pork/Ham was cut in its own special area and had its own sink for rinsing. Holy moly I’d rather just not deal with ham at a Kosher deli. I worked at Blimpies and the Orthodox Jews Came and I already knew the drill. The Blimpies Korean owner doesn’t understand at all. But these Jews were hungry so I sterilized and cleaned the cutting board, meat slicer and knives thoroughly. And success!

The term 'Kosher' is not even in Torah pertaining to FOOD. Food is either TAHOR/clean or TAME/unclean. The only strenuous guidelines in preparing food was in the temple as the priest ministered to YHUH not in the home while preparing a simple meal. Yeah, but you're Jewish and keep kosher. You can turn on your own oven. You can check your own vegetables (rice and beans) for bugs. Also, consider that the family doesn't likely keep kosher on their own time. They're entertaining kosher in-law's. So the rabbi just koshered the kitchen for the, needs to supervise the cooking - it's all for drama. It probably wasn't half as extreme in the kitchen as it was in the editing.

It depends, these are orthodox (the absolute worst when it comes to rules and regulations, they're frightened of their own shadow), the conservative aren't too far off, the reform don't eat pork and dont mix dairy with meat, but keep everything in one fridge and use one sink for everything and have one set of plates and are pretty much normal when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Jefferey: I have been kosher my entire life...and Vegetarian and Vegan for the past 26 years. Kosher and healthy are not necessarily related. Kosher SHOULD be healthier but unfortunately, today this is not the case. Being Kosher and Vegan takes me to another level of assuredness of cleanliness and organicness. Being knowledgeable about the health properties of foods and spices is key. I believe there is spirituality in food. Whenever you go to a restaurant, look for a kosher symbol. If you live in the US, this should generally be the 'OU' symbol. Basically, it guarantees - Quality, Health and Humaneness. Please be aware that there are plenty things kosher which are not healthy so please use your logic. If you see a fat cheesy pizza that's kosher - it is by no means healthy and is not more healthier than non kosher pizza. It means that the pizza and ingredients all follow the Jewish dietary requirements. As for quality - kosher is generally higher quality and as for humaneness - kosher meat is ALWAYS slaughtered humanely as inflicting unnecessary suffering to animals is strictly prohibited in the Hebrew Bible.

Ah ha ha ha! ' Just loved the cook's sense of humor & the colliding of the cultures. Was so great. Reminds me of my own Orthodox Jewish experience in the kitchen for the first time. If you had learnt a bit of Talmud in your life you would have known that the Talmud asks how he gave to the angels meat and milk. No, it's real and actually even more complicated-just condensed into a 10 minute video! You've got to see it to believe it. I've grown up with it from birth and still have trouble keeping the laws straight. We have books on the rules and all kinds of questions if a problem comes up with any of them.

The chef was a great sport though and the video was entertaining. Seen from his perspective, it gave me a laugh. There are kosher restaurants with proper & professional kosher equipment but he was stripped of his tools and thrown into the deep end.

Jews do extra with kosher. I keep kosher to a certain extent, no shellfish no mixing of dairy & meat no pork and make sure ingredients don’t have gelatin or shellfish products. The dishwasher and knifes is a ridiculous rule they get cleaned.

There are some things that chassidim won’t do that the letter of the law allows, like mixing fish with milk.

Please! Over dramatizing makes others think this is the way it is for real. Not all kosher kitchens have two ovens, etc. Not everyone can afford that! Yes, two sets of dishes, and flatware, sets of pots and pans though. The only reason the rabbi has to be there to supervise is that this chef does not know how to keep kosher. Also, a real kosher home would hire a kosher caterer or chef, not him. The worst thing about this video is the statement that the rabbi has to bless the food. Any Jew should know the food is the blessing and a prayer is said before eating to thank God for the food. What the rabbi does is supervise and make sure it is authentically kosher. The prayer after the meal is even more important.

@davebonesraskin7 I keep kosher at home and I'm not this OTT, I think it played to the camera and my kitchen is not big at all.
