I've tried a joint compound recently to see if it was better than PTFE tape. Very messy to apply, hard to clean off fingers, and doesn't want to stay where it's applied. Maybe this is specific to this product, but given this one experience, I think I'll use PTFE going ahead in future as a first resort. Just easier to handle.

I agree entirely, as belt and braces put a bit paste on compression fittings, I'm not a plumber admittedly but I feel a complete noob whenever I do it, but I'd rather tighten up once and know it is sealed without having to worry.

Hi Al and Jan ☺, always good to see you mate, and it's the never ending dilemma Wether to use a joint sealer or not, lol. As for myself I'd rather give it full belt and braces, obviously whith potable approved paste, and or ptfe, or if I'm in doubt both, ha ha, I'd never forgive me self if I had to re,do the joint, especially if that involved draining down the pipework again to reseal it. When faced with a compression fitting for the first time the novice diyer doesn't realy know how tight to make the joint, or understands just what's happening inside the fitting when they apply spanners to it. I can't remember if you've already made a video showing the proper procedure, but I'm sure your advice would be greatly appreciated anyway. Cheers Al, stay safe mate, best wishe's to you and Jan, Stuart UK.

Threaded fittings - liquid ptfe or just ptfe. You don't need anything else Compression joints - couple wraps of ptfe around the olive or some paste (I prefer Swan seal by black swan) and you'll be fine.

There were videos somewhere about using jointing compound on the inside collar of a water supply pipe and it may be useful to provide links to the videos with the merits of different types of washers nylon, rubber, fibre and where to place the compound paste and potential problems.

You can still use it as a Halloween wig right 😉🤣. Actually I avoid using Polytetrafluoroethylene tape it`s a rookie move and it gives a poor appearance. and I will only use it if the thread machining is a sloppy fit. Always check fitment first and then type of metal. I would always recommend greasing the thread as that alone will usually result in a leak free joint. Anyhow that`s my humble opine. Keep up the great work Mr. Al as I always look forward to your video`s. 👍👍👍
