I personally run a Keychron K8 and IMO, it's not bad. If you need a hot-swap board with bluetooth because your work gave you a laptop and you hate its built in keyboard, then the K series is probably a good start. They also have released the K8 Pro which has south facing LEDs, is customizable with VIA, and has foam included, while still being hot-swap and bluetooth capable. Saving up for that one. Keychron is generally a good recommendation for budget boards. They have almost every form factor and layout available. There are better choices, of course, but they're a good start.

It annoys me that they put some much stock on sound. It's a keyboard first and foremost. You would think all these keyboard KZbinrs would cover qmk/via/vial support, gasket mounts and how cushiony they are, etc. They do to some degree but it always feels like a passing remark before getting to sound. He'll even a lot of the mods done are to change sound. Granted some affect things like stability of the larger keys and smoothness of travel when depressing keys, but a lot are sound focused first and the other benefits are just nice to have. That's been my experience watching g these various KZbinrs for a couple of years anyways. I'm a software dev and appreciate a good hot swap that I can program myself for whatever I want. Sound is the least of my worries as I listen to music while working anyways. So having g a really nice typing experience is paramount for me over authentic and sound.

I love your videos and the work that you do. I owe you an apology, Hipyo. When I first started getting into custom keyboards, a little over 2 years ago, I made a comment about a 150 dollar keyboard "not really being budget friendly". I was coming from keyboards in the 25 to 50 dollar range at the time and had the opinion that 100 dollars was an expensive keyboard. Now that I've had time to assess the HUGE difference in quality and experience, BOY WAS I WRONG. I'm an IT tech, and while I have nice peripherals at home and in my own workspace, I get reminded on a daily basis when using client's stuff how much better even the 150 dollar "budget" options are that I started out with a couple of years ago. Today, I personnally don't have an issue with paying 200 to 300 dollars for a keyboard. Not only are the quality and experience worth it, but if something does happen to go wrong with the keyboard, I'm not just throwing it away and buying another complete keyboard. The same goes for not liking some aspect of the keyboard. With switches, keycaps, plates, cases, and most other parts being individually replaceable, they can be swapped out at any time. In the long run, the original investment of 150 dollars or more can actually even end up saving money. So, with all that being said, I am sorry for my original noob comment that I made. Today, I completely get it, now that I'm educated, and will never go back to what I call the "trash" category of keyboards.

The TKD Cycle7 group buy coming up looks like it will be a great value if you are just jumping on the bandwagon and missed the Zoom 65 & 75. Also, it's exciting to see that it is fully CNC aluminum compared to other "entry level" custom keyboards that use cast aluminum parts to reduce manufacturing costs.

I bought a GMMK pro about a year and half ago, at that time it was like the ONLY remotely custom option you could get in France without paying stupidly high import fees. I bought an open box through Amazon warehouse (which was just opened and never used, prolly because the dude wanted an ISO layout and it was ANSI), so saved a bit of money there, bought some switches that I lubed, some durock V2 stabs, some nice keycaps and it ended up being around 250€ while sounding incredible. I tried the polycarb plate but it was meh, not holding the switches properly so I went back to the stock alu plate. Removed the internal foam to give room for the gaskets, did a tape mod and now the keeb sounds pretty incredible. Honestly I understand how overpriced it might look, but if you know what you're doing it can still be a great board at a decent price if other options are not available. Glorious is a bigger company than most other keeb companies, even keychron so their products are more available in general.

gmmk pro was a good competitor 2 years ago, but it's just a waste of money if you were to buy it now. The budget options outlass the gmmk pro, speaking from personal experience after buying the gmk67 with KTT kang whites, it sounded a lot better than my gmmk with tangerienes, and it surprized me so much. And the gmk67 build was 80$ total while the gmmk pro came to aorund 250$. So yeah I honestly dont think the gmmk pro is worth it anymore.

Keyboards are a headache. Too much modding and the base keyboards are not worth it anymore. I've been using a ducky one 2 mini and haven't looked back. Anything I need to open up and mod just doesn't seem right. These companies should come with modding option so you don't have to do it. I've been looking for a thocky style keyboard but everything requires modding and I'm not up for it.

As someone in the EU I can at least give you my reason for a GMMK Pro: It's available over here without paying 30-50 bucks in shipping and there is an ISO option. I personally also like ANSI keyboards because you tend to have more keycap sets to choose from with ANSI, but I get why people (at least over here) like the GMMK Pro, even if the price to performance ratio is not the best :)

Hey there, thanks for joining the discussion! I actually recently came across the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule, and I must say, it's a game-changer for keeping your desktop spotless. The powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities make a significant difference. Plus, it's compact and versatile, perfect for cleaning your car's interior as well. Definitely worth considering for anyone looking to optimize their cleaning routine!

The Monsgeek M1 is as good or better in every way for less than 150€. There really isn't any reason to buy the gmmk pro.

I'd recommend the Akko 5075S VIA. It's gasket mounted, south facing, per key rgb and side led, VIA compatible all for... 59.99. Yes, 59.99.

I just got my Zoom TKL today.... 7 months after purchasing, when they said it'd be shipped in 4 months. Now, this isn't uncommon in the keyboard enthusiast space buuuut I do think it is a joke regardless, that a company can promise one thing, and deliver another w/o criticism. All things considered, the board is FANTASTIC, I love it even with the only couple of hours since receiving it. Meletrix is no joke, and I am really going to love this board.

Maybe you can do a video on good custom keyboards ($100-$250) we can actually buy now without a group buy. One that I can go online, buy, and receive within a reasonable timeframe (less than a week).

just did a build im here for buyers remorse. I personally got a 5075s with tactiles and switched them out for gateron pro yellows that I lubed. I also did a tape mod. I spent around 150 i think? Minus lube and tools. I'm pretty happy with it, but you NEED to lube the stabs.

I've noticed a lot have RGB, but no shine through key caps, which are pointless in the dark. Or you must set the backlit very bright, which is very distracting.
