The “cleaner” on the coulter of the plow was always called a “jointer”. May not be right, but that’s how I heard it. They started the dirt to roll over, to help cover trash. A company named “Lantz” is the maker I have usually seen. But I image there could be other makers. Probably OEM made them to. Hard to say anymore. Many times the manufacturers name or emblem is stamped in the plow beam. Not always easy to see anymore. Wheel hub areas are good places to look for a maker emblem too.

Good finds of some oliver plows there i do know oliver was the biggest in plows when they started in South Bend IN and after WW1 they had scaled up with plans to put out 750,000 plows since IH and Ford were cranking out tractors in a big way .. I know estimates were made in 1919 and later years of 250,000 tractors being sold every year

That has to be the first auction you've posted with all good equipment. I'd be a bidding fool at that place, running around like Daffy Duck when he's having a loony fit. Love it!!

They sure do look like Olivers. We have 2 of those a 4 bottom and a 5 bottom. We have a #7 fertilizer spreader but ours is on rubber. Some balers did have engines, typically 2 cylinder Wisconsins. The John Deere baler may well have had an engine originally, but not a Honda.

That what you called a "colter cleaner" is a " jointer" I believe. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe it helps bury trash.

@BostrsBoy3 жыл бұрын
From historymuseumsb.org In June 1857, James Oliver received his first patent, Number 76,939.1 It covered the essential features of the chilled iron plow and in February of the following year, he was granted another patent that covered the unique chilling process, which Mr. Oliver had developed.2 By 1868 the small Oliver factory was incorporated and renamed as the South Bend Iron Works. The stockholders of this newly formed company included George Milburn (of the Milburn Wagon Company, Mishawaka, Indiana), his son-in-law Clement Studebaker (of the Studebaker Manufacturing Company), and a few other important businessmen of South Bend.
@wesleycallison20793 жыл бұрын
Yep. Oliver. I had one and one of the rollers in that gear on the wheel got stuck and rooster comb would slip off and drop the plow when you were trying to lift it. Then the arm wouldn't cock in the up position. The fix was clean and free up the stuck roller and put three washers under that little coil spring. That made that comb snap back up and catch like it supposed to.
@donvoll25803 жыл бұрын
Good day Good expression on that gear type thing calling it rooster comb.
