What led to FEAR FACTORY replacing BURTON C. BELL?

After waiting for what feels like an eternity, FEAR FACTORY has finally announced their new vocalist, Milo Silvestro, who of course is replacing the beloved longtime frontman Burton C. Bell. Today, we discuss the events that have transpired throughout the band's tumultuous history that led to band leader Dino Cazares needing to find a replacement, as well as the demise of the band's classic lineup of Burton, Dino, Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera.

In my honest oppinion,idgaf what the drama is about or was.I have gotten to meet Burton and Dino years ago for World Industrialist Tour 2012 at the Launchpad in Albq,NM.Hearing Burton's voice and lyrics in FF in general,he cant ever be replaced.Burton will awlays be the way,he is the industrialist,and without Burton,there is no FF and can never be Mechanized.I still have respect for "FF" now and will always be open to hearing Dino's new work and everything.I will always have equal respect for Burton and Dino because they are the Fear Factory's one and only industrial pioneers!!!! I support them both equally and they both will always be one of my top inspirations into becoming a soul of a new machine!!

FF has been my favorite band since high school back in 96 when I discovered them. I hate the idea that Burton is gone but if it’s true his heart wasn’t in it. Then it’s for the better. If this newly reformed FF gets back to the story we all loved Man vs Machine then I’m down. I’d rather new tracks drop then a band of this caliber to go down in history like that. They inspired soo many and started a whole thing and soo much more.

Milo is a good vocalist and I can hear why Dino chose him to continue FF with. I got into metal music around 1995 and Demanufacture is still one of my favorite albums. It just had something magical. I loved that FF lineup and I'm happy I saw them live in the late 90s. It's a shame that greed can destroy so many good things. Some parts of the machine are just irreplacable.

I'm sure I've heard that reissues or remasters are often used to freeze out certain parties from royalties. If that is true and also Dino is now the sole owner of the FF name, then it's possible he is reissuing to gain full control of royalties.

Bands are now business and people come and go. Fans just gotta take it and either deal with it or move on. Nothing we can do about it and I don't care. I just like what I like and I'll pay for what I want to pay for in music and or tickets. If not then I won't. As far as Fear Factory I'm all in with the new singer and I've been listening and watching all the interviews and it's cool. As far as I'm concerned Static-X, Dope and other bands are all on the same page so some people in the Fear Factory members might have some mixed emotions as well as fans and yeah it's a drama mess but right now it's all working out and it sucks the old members are out. What you see is what you get and we'll see what comes about it in the next few weeks. If it's a success they we all know Dino was right and legit but it if not then the other dudes have a point. Time will tell but I'm rooting for Dino as he's a business man as well as Edsel from Dope as they all know what's up.

I'm pretty sure Byron Stroud and Gene Hoglan left at the same time. Gene actually said it was the one band he would never join, he only joined because Byron said they needed him to make it work. The two of them were waiting to get called into the studio, only to hear the next album arrive with programmed drums. They concluded that Burton and Dino just wanted to keep all the money, and left together

"Demanufacture" and "Archetype" are personally in my top 25 albums of all time... but I hate the dick messaging from Burton regarding "Fear Factory is a business." I remember when that came out, I basically tuned out of their stuff moving forward. We all work to make money... but telling your limited consumer base (which we all need to be honest... has been limited for the past 15 years) that this is just a business model is NOT an attractive thing to say unless you're producing the best results consistently.... something FF has struggled with. Dino definitely has some issues as well but I just remember that Burton has a habit of giving up often and sounding like a dick VERY often. I guess this comment was the thing that soured them enough for me to stop tuning into their newer stuff.

I agree, those albums are the best and Archetype remains one of my all time favorites. I've really tried to wrap my head around the legal situation involving the band. From what it sounds like, Burton reconciled with Dino and then tried to start a band under the name Fear Factory which obviously you can't legally do when you have two other members, Olde Wolbers and Herrera still technically a part of that band. Since it became a stalemate, Wolbers and Herrera said "Okay fine you can continue the band without us but the only way you can do this is by paying us royalties since you are profiting from songs we've written". Then Burton filed for bankruptcy making it so he didn't have to pay them royalties anymore but they came after him again because he can technically still start Fear Factory up again and continue to make money. That's all I can decipher from everything that happened but it's a shame how much the band was torn apart by drama and stupid shit people weren't willing to reconcile over.

Burton settled into that position because that's all its about for Dino. It's all about him, it's all about his vision, it's all about his success. I mean why do you think he continues on with this Frankenstein of an effigy? His riffs aren't even that great anymore, either. FF died when Burton left. Burton C. Bell is a narcissist. Burton was at fault for like 80% of the Fear Factory drama, but he tries to make it out like he's the victim. Burton intentionally didn't mention the settlement with Raymond and Christian when he filed for bankruptcy. Gene Holgan was replaced by a drum machine. Mike Heller didn't join Fear Factory until like 2015

Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion... But I just can't see how Milo could take on writing lyrics and bringing soul to the music in any way near what Burton did. So far it just sounds like a bad cover band when they're playing live, remember he is a "fan" first and foremost. It doesn't matter if he is described as a "multi-instrumentalist" or is coming from a "musical family", that doesn't equal originality or that he is a better musician than anyone else. So far he is trying too hard to be something he obviously isn't and might never be. Only time will tell if this works or not but I have a feeling that the shoes were too big to fill after all.

Had the chance to see them live last month and I can tell you FF is in a far better shape now compared to 2016 when I saw them at Bloodstock. Burton is one of my favorite metal singer but he just can't sing live since 10 years and everybody seems to ignore that fact.

I disagree. While it is his band, it's not the same without the original lineup. They were all equal contributors to what led to their success. I mean what would Dino have without Burton's powerful lyrics - songs about killer robots and whatnot? I mean come on.😄

Sometimes a sole member is the band like in Tony Iommi in Black Sabbath, Dave Mustaine in Megadeth, etc. But in Fear Factory you had a era where Dino wasn't in the band and now refuses to acknowledge that time period.

@@te9591 Everyone had a favorite member they were biased towards. I've seen Olbers fans piss on Bell and Cazares fans and vice versa, I'm not going to waste my time saying who's nice and who's not, but FF was clearly a job to all of these guys following Digimortal. Bell admitted as far back as 00 his heart wasn't in making Industrial Metal, but his wallet was. Dino fights for the FF name because it's a brand, even if the band doesn't resemble FF at all. Olbers despite shitting on both Bell and Cazares then wants to reunite with them and tour? Sounds like a monetary motivation considering his other projects have gone nowhere.

Honestly, Dino has always done scummy things, but Burton's voice is also shot. He would've probably gotten the boot eventually because he just can't perform live. It's all been badly handled.
