Remember what Pyrrha said about aura? Everyone has it, even animals. Zwei has an aura, and is owned by a family of huntsmen. It's not unreasonable to think he's been trained for combat. That's why he wasn't harmed when Oobleck set him on fire to take out a giant robot. xD Also, Neo's eyes change colors frequently. If you watch when she first appears in this episode, she has one eye brown, one eye pink, and then they switch colors. Her eye color is highly variable, and that is intentional, not an animation mistake.

@@bennywark3103 Monty wasn't exactly one of the writers, but he, Miles, and Kerry planned out the course of the entire story of the show even before Volume 1 was written. They used to talk about it quite a bit on podcasts and stuff, about how they would go to IHOP together to talk about the story plans, how they'd just sit around at the office between the stuff they worked on to discuss. Part of Ozpin's backstory was actually Miles' idea, which Monty and Kerry then expanded upon with him. Monty's role was majorly ideas and animation. The whole reason he brought Miles and Kerry on was because he wasn't super confident in his ability to write out the story he was thinking of, which is why Miles and Kerry were in charge of the script and actual step-by-step episode stuff. According to the Volume 1 director's commentary, he also left Miles and Kerry in charge of fleshing out Ren and Nora as characters. As far as his work on Volume 3, Monty did do some animating for it before his death, while everyone else on the crew was taking a break after Volume 2's finale premiered. He was a notorious workaholic, which is part of why fans had a running joke of telling him to go to bed on social media. He'd be up late working on tweaking the models and making animations. One of the things he animated that made it into Volume 3 was someone dodging a bunch of stuff, so they applied the animation to Pyrrha. His animation for Yang's really important scene toward the end of Volume 3 was incomplete, and I guess the crew wasn't confident they could make it as good as he would've wanted, so they held onto it for Volume 6 instead.

I like how episode 11 confirmed for us that people can combine Dust with their Semblance for different effects, and it makes me curious what everyone else's Semblances would do. If Ruby used fire Dust with her Semblance, would she become a fireball trailing flaming petals? 8:22 Remember that Ruby and Yang have different moms but the same dad. The way Yang explained it in Burning the Candle is a bit confusing, but basically, their dad and Yang's mom had Yang together first, but shortly after Yang was born, her mom left. Then, their dad got with Summer and had Ruby, and one day, Summer went on a mission and never made it back. Losing both of his loves made their dad shut down from depression, and that's when Yang found out about her biological mom. 9:52 Fun fact, the writers said that Ren was the one who chose Team JNPR's mission and the reason he chose for them to go help a village has to do with his backstory. They teased us with this, so I figured I'd share the tease. Just a note, the after credits scene is supposed to be a dream, hence the dreamy music and the VFX on the edges of everything.

Actually, they didn't change their minds about the scene. The scene was just a point of conflict between Monty and the writers. Miles and Kerry didn't want him to do it because they felt it was too early to do the face reveal, but Monty did it anyway as a dream sequence. This was a fun final act of the volume and next up it's a big one, not just in terms of what happens in the upcoming volume but also it being the unfortunately last work Monty did before his passing, can't wait for your reactions to it. And while I know it's a big hope, I do hope in time you read the books featuring Team CFVY, they were fan faves around this time thanks to their full debut around here and the books help them get fleshed out immensely and I reckon you'd enjoy them (though don't seek them out until around V6 for spoilers sake). Puppy fireball!!! Always love seeing people react to Zwei being used as a projectile. Best doggo! Most people seem to have beaten me to the other stuff (how Zwei did that, who that was at the end, the fact that the post-credit scene isn't canon) but one thing I have to say is this- Neo vs. Yang is one of my fav fights if only because you need to slow it down a tad to realize just how fast Neo is dodging. She's that damn good. Also Adam was Blake's partner in the White Fang (kind of like Yang is her partner in team RWBY). They aren't related. Fun Facts for these episodes! 1) The reason why Zwei was able to endure being turned into an actual fireball by Dr. Oobleck is because he, like other living creatures, has an Aura! 2) Neo is mute! She was initially going to be a casting opportunity for Sarah Silverman, but CRWBY ultimately opted to making her mute instead. 3) Neo's eyes changing color is actually her showing off her semblance, Overactive Imagination. It allows her to create physical illusions seen by everyone, mostly upon herself and those in close proximity to her. These illusions often shatter like glass once dispelled/broken. 4) This is the final episode where Monty Oum, the creator, voices Ren. Monty sadly passed away on February 1st, 2015 after a severe allergic reaction during a routine medical procedure. Volume 3 and onward, he is voiced by his older brother, Neath Oum. 5) This end credit scene is a dream Yang had, meaning she didn't actually see the mystery woman again after their fleeting moment on the train.

Neat fact: it was stated earlier that all living things with souls have an aura. And Zwei is the dog of a skilled huntsman and has shown to be trained in scouting. Funny thing - back when I first watched this, I remembered volume two concluding on a victory by the heroes. Then some time later I rewatched and realized - no, team RWBY's goal in this volume finale was to prevent the bad guys from creating a breach that would let the Grimm inside the city. They failed. I only remembered it as a victory because of the badass action sequence of the last episode.

Time for more character talk! Being an upload with a finale, there's a lot to go over so this is a long comment. Keep in mind I get most of this from the RWBY fandom website, so if anything is wrong it's probably because someone on there wrote it as fact instead of assumption/speculation. First up, let's talk about Zwei. As you saw, Zwei is an extremely durable doggo. It's believed because he has a strong Aura keeping him protected, though I'm not sure I follow this belief. I honestly think he's just a character the creators really didn't want any harm coming to so they made him effectively invincible lol. His name is inspired by the Cowboy Bebop character Ein, who is also a Corgi, because the German words for 1 and 2 are eins and zwei (though the German pronunciation of the word zwei is zvei). Second is Neo. As you appear to have assumed, she is a mute (though for some reason still has a VA, by the name of Casey Lee Williams, who's ironically the vocalist for most of the music in RWBY). Her colour scheme is, of course, based on the ice cream of the same name. Neo has a special variation of complete heterochromia designed specifically for her. As you noticed, she has one pink and and one brown eye. What's special about it is that the colours change depending on the situation, going between brown and pink, pink and brown, and completely white. Here's something I didn't know about her until writing this comment: her real name is Trivia Vanille and her weapon is called Hush. I can't go into much more without spoiling things, so we'll come back to her another time. Third, Blake. I'm not sure if I touched on this in the first iteration of this little comment series of mine, but her semblance allows her to escape danger by leaving a fake copy of herself in her place. However, if she uses dust in combination with her semblance, it instead leaves behind a copy made of that element, such as the ice and stone copies seen on the train. Lastly, I'd like to point out that final scene after the end credits. I'm going to leave the character unidentified for now. The important thing to remember is that scene was made non-canon, though I can't remember why. If anyone knows why, please let me know as it's driving me insane not being able to remember lol.

Just wanna say love that you're reacting to RWBY! And would like to point out that the end credit scene of VOL.2 is non-canon or a deleted scene. After Monty passed they decided to go in a slightly different direction with certain story lines. But the woman with red eyes and black hair is still a character that will be discussed in VOL.3

Ep11: Love that Blake was the one that was asked to cut the train car attachment. She has some experience in that area after all. *looks at Black Trailer* Lol Neo really is the worst kind of match up for Yang. Yang is a very straightforward fighter. And while she is not an idiot and can come up with strategy, she's also running on next to no sleep and is in a very enclosed space. Neo is also such an avoidant fighter, basically toying with Yang and redirecting her attacks. And when Yang does finally get a hold of her and start to figure out how Neo works, Neo stops playing around and ends the fight before that can become a problem. It was just a bad match up, man. But a necessary one to show that even Yang isn't invincible. Showing off how the Dust can intertwine with Blake's semblance is so cool man. Ep 12: And we get to see Team CFVY in action. Literally too cool for words.

I'm not sure if it's still as popular as it was back in the day, but Neo x Yang is the most popular Neo ship involving a member of Team RWBY. I think it comes from the enemies/rivals to lovers energy they give, especially with how teasing Neo is when Yang is fighting her. Their ship name is Baked Alaska!

One important detail: unfortunately the ending scene between Yang and the mystery woman gets retconned. We’ll still get to hear about her moving forward, but the scene itself just didn’t happen/isn’t acknowledged moving forward. You can still interpret it as a kind of dream sequence as it’s still a cool scene even if it’s no longer canon. I’m also very curious what she’ll think about Adam and the WF as the series progresses. Without spoilers, both are very contentious talking points within the fandom bc of their writing, and even now that we saw them again at the end, Elijah’s perception is exactly like a lot of people’s. I guess time will tell . But regardless, can’t wait for the V3 reactions ❤️🤍🖤💛

The after credits scene is not retconned, it was always intended to be a dream. The visual effects and the music were designed to be dream-like, to convey to you that Yang is just having a dream.

I do think it was always meant to be a dream sequence, but I’m pretty sure the scene was still retconned bc (mild spoilers below) Raven’s later characterization isn’t anything like the dream, nor does it make much sense for Yang to know what she looks like at that point considering how young she was when Raven left. Also when she’s talking with Qrow in V3, she only makes mention of Raven’s sword as being the thing she recognized, nothing about her appearance or the dream she had. That’s why I said it’s neat to interpret it as a dream sequence Yang might have had, but the scene itself is no longer canon bc of later contradictions.

@@Azurelet Spoilers: In Burning the Candle, when Yang says she found a clue that she thought would lead to her mother, it shows her childhood self picking up a picture, from a broken picture frame if I remember right. I had always assumed that the photo she found included Raven. Especially since, in the Yellow Trailer, she shows Junior a photo of a woman with long hair and demands information about that woman. Initially, the fandom thought that it was a photo of Blake, but Monty said it was another character we'd find out about later. After all, the Yellow Trailer takes place when Roman rents some goons from Junior before Volume 1. So most likely, the photo was Raven, especially since the image that Monty used for the photo was an artwork he did of FF8's Rinoa but with her hair turning into feathers. You're right about the characterization being off, which lends more to Yang just imagining it in her dream, instead of Raven visiting her in a dream like some people theorized.

@@DaemiaChirabys (Mild spoilers again) That’s fair, I’d forgotten about the flashback scene for a sec. But like you said, it’s still just an assumption the photo is of Raven (and shows her face). Only thing we’re told is that it’s some sort of clue that convinced baby Yang (bless her heart) to go into the woods. Same goes for the club scene since we can’t really see the photo clearly, let alone if her face is even shown in it or how Yang got the photo. To me, it’s implied the photo she found as a kid is the same one she showed Junior in the club - the feathers coming off her hair being the indicator to go try to find answers in the woods when she was young. However, I always assumed that was the only indicator she had to go by because like I wrote in my other reply, she never mentions recognizing Raven by her appearance when talking to Qrow, only her sword which she’d seen in the train fight. And if the dream was canon, she would have also brought it up during that same conversation, it doesn’t make sense why she wouldn’t. This is just my perspective btw, I don’t wanna come off as dismissive or anything. Imo, the lack of mention of said dream sequence during that convo along with other little details mentioned above makes that dream scene feel like a retcon.

@@Azurelet Spoilers Yeah, I think we can probably explain her only mentioning the weapon by assuming the photo she has didn't include the weapon, so since Raven was wearing a mask, she couldn't be sure it was her until Qrow showed her and Ruby his photo of Team STRQ. His thumb even moves to cover Raven's face (maybe a subconscious indicator of his own feelings?), which helps Yang put the pieces together and confirm to herself that yes, that was Raven after all.
