What Life Is Like During The Corona/Covid 19 Pandemic in Germany | March 2020

How does the corona virus aka covid-19 effect Germany, Germans and expats alike? In this corona update video you'll find out the answer to this and many more questions. How many total, active and closed cases are there? How many people have actually died from the disease? Do examples like Italy and China scare us or do we underestimate the severity of this pandemic? Are panic shoppers a thing in Deutschland? And how should we fight this? The answers aren't easy but in times of crisis we need to do anything in our power to get through whatever comes our way. Small town Illinois. Churches have cancelled services. no more the 10 persons can be together, only take out or delivery for restaurants, if you can work from home that is encouraged, unnecessary travel discouraged, large retailers are mostly closing until April, the big four auto makers have or are closing their plants, all sporting events, schools are closed for at least 2 weeks and may extend that, bars are closed. We are basicly sheltering in place only out for food. Ya, supermarket has no TP ( just don't get that one ) bread not in the market, Frozen and canned meats 85% gone, flour 100% gone, pump soaps gone, bar soaps 75% gone canned good and pasta's 85% gone. This should im prove as our local supermarket has issued limits per customer on certain goods. Milk 95 % gone. We all will get through this. Domiinik's advice is very good. I would just add if you can give blood do so as blood banks are running low. Thanks Dominik. John W. There is hope!!

I've been waiting to hear from you, Dominik! Glad you are well. Here in New England, USA we are not allowed to have groups of more than 10, businesses are closing, schools are closed & offering online home school, & people are out of work & needing to collect temporary unemployment. I am on voluntary quarantine & only leave for essentials, including the nasty laundromat, unfortunately! My family is stocked up on a few weeks supplies (no, I'm not the asshole that bought a year's worth, I promise! Lol) Grüß from New Hampshire USA everyone!! Stay vigilant & healthy! My elderly family in Germany tells me it is quite manageable and tell me what you said. We have been through this before except it was worse, had no food, had no toilet paper, you aunt's house was bombed, your uncle died on the way to Russia etc... My younger relatives complain more. I am a little older than you Dominik.

Hi! Trying to comment but internet is slow at the moment. I have lots of family in Bavaria and am wishing them and you and your family well. Canada here. It's starting to grow here too and we're all aware and trying to prepare. My daughter-in-law is a nurse and aware of what's coming. That is a great topic! What can we do to help? I hope the border between Switzerland is open in the start of June. I booked a flight to Zürich ages ago for June 1st. getting to Konstanz from any German airport is a huge hassle with many changes while its easy from Zürich.

Curfews are not a good idea as restricted access to stores will lead to more people being in the same place at the same time. Keeping stores open longer will lead to less people being in the same place at once.

I pray we manage to succeed sheltering at home and preserve lives. Here in Southern California (San Diego) the streets are empty, freeways clear. The Google traffic notices say, 'traffic much faster than usual' at the customary rush hours. I'm not into conspiracy theories. I've told my neighbors to let us know if they need anything. I bought masks in early February, so we are okay for quick trips to the market. Listening to music and doing some sketching has helped a lot. My elderly (94 years) mom is doing what makes her happy --- obsessively cleaning the house, which is already clean. I planted some snap peas and lettuce yesterday. Just sitting quietly outside in the garden is nice, too.

I'm in GA in the US and I've been sent by my main job to work from home. My uni classes have been suspended until further notice and my second job is in a hotel which has shut down already, so...guess I have a lot of free time for awhile. Hi Get Germanised, the figures are interesting. Two things are interesting, one the fact that the UK doesn't have as many cases. I wonder if this is because it has done most tests in the Hospital, so the figures are higher than thought. But the total amount of tests in the UK seem just as high as those in France and elsewhere. Looking at serious cases, the UK is stuck on 20 but deaths keep coming. Don't know why, why weren't the latest deaths in the UK at one point serious. In contrast serious cases in France and Spain are over 800, so expect far more deaths in those countries soon. Deaths in Germany are low despite the amount of cases, I don't know why. Could be doing a good job, but maybe if it is only a contributing factor not on the death certificate. Whereas in the UK many people in Hospital for another serious matter have later tested positive and so only a factor, not the whole story. In my area, north east of England there are not many cases. In Co Durham I think just 3 cases for a large area. Maybe 8 in Tyneside and 6 in Teesside, but these are still low figures. It maybe that the local Hospital for the average Durham resident is in Tyneside or Teesside. Of course hardly any testing but in the whole of Europe (in my opinion), hardly any safer area. The 33 extra deaths in England yesterday, none North of Sheffield although Scotland did have some.

Glad to see you are well. Here in the UK schools and churches are closed, panic buying has led to a shortage of toilet paper, pasta, rice, flour, yeast, sugar, soap, salt, tinned and frozen foods, hand sanitizer. 2.626 people are infected and 104 have died.

I think Germany is still struggling with new rules and changes. For example, while authorities are prohibiting traveling to other countries, when i cancelled my hotel booking in Holland and also my train ticket, neither hotel nor DB refunded my money back! Bcz they said its late to do so! They cannot understand its Krise! Not normal ordinary life!

I'm in Hamburg and I went to the supermarket (Rewe) 30 minutes ago. Full of food. Really full of meat, cheese, vegetables, fruits, cookies, even you can buy pasta and soup, yogurt, cleaning material and some bread. But no toilet paper. Nothing. What do the people eat then? I don't get that logic. By the way it is also important to look the number of "how many deaths" vs "how many people have already survived". So you'll see that the percentage is considerable. The rest are still sick and we don't know what will happen with them. :-/
