The other day we white guys who speak perfect Chinese went out to NYC’s Chinatown to the nail salon. They were “gossiping” about us (in a loving way!), not realizing we spoke Mandarin, and then we totally shocked them by switching to Chinese! We ended up having a really deep and interesting conversation with them in Mandarin and the rare Chinese dialect of Fuzhounese.
So to find out what they are REALLY saying about you at Asian nail salons…just watch the video! It was a funny prank / social experiment but also a really meaningful experience. Plus of course it’s interesting if you’re interested in language learning!

In the future, you must wait until you've paid and are out the door before letting on that you speak the language. I GUARANTEE you, you will have a far juicier video.!!

It's funny that the white guys have fake modesty. They both know that they speak great Chinese and play it off every time with the locals. The women just love them....

@@goaley45 That's a cultural thing. It's quite rude to accept compliments in China, so by playing down or denying their skill they're doing the polite thing, not hamming it up.

It's much easier to speak fluent-sounding than it is to understand, you can prepare entire dialogues in your head if you're the one going to add something to the conversation but you could be caught off-guard if the conversation changes and you haven't prepared any dialogue for the subject

I love how they didn't get snarky when the lady was talking trash, but won her over with good personality and kindness. Show a great maturity and lack of pettiness. Well done really enjoyed watching.

As someone who’s Chinese, he’s super fluent in the language like holy- Probably better than me in all honesty. The thing is, it’s not even the large fact he knows the whole Chinese dictionary (most likely), but he knows how to bring out the accent as well as the language which makes him sound even more fluent.

I’m Brazilian, so I speak Portuguese but I’ve studied English since I was a teenager and I’m able to speak in both languages pretty well. I went to a restaurant with a friend and on the way we decided that we should pretend we were Americans. It was FUN AF because people went OFF on us talking s**t. Calling us many many ugly names because they could bet we didn’t speak Portuguese. I was having the time of my life. At the end of the dinner we said: “Can we have the bill e uma garrafinha de água pra viagem?” The waiter turned RED and said (in Portuguese): “You speak Portuguese? I’m so so sorry! We didn’t meant to offend anyone! I’m so sorry!” I was laughing so much. It was so fun. 😂

It's not really practicing if the language that is spoken the most is the dominate language. Your reply would be more relevant if he was located/raised somewhere else. Like if he was raised where the majority of his family lived he'd probably only speak english like they do but if he went out of his way and learned Chinese, mandarin, fuzehouse, etc. Then that would be practice which would be respected. First time seeing a video of y'all. Speaking so many languages is so awesome! I've lived in deep south TX(takes me about 20 min. to get to Mexico) for my whole 34 years, and know about...maybe 30 or 40 words in spanish. 13 of those are numbers! 🤣🤣 But my Dad knows spanish. He picked it up as a child. I remember a story of when he was a foreman at a construction sight, and how the guys "under" him would constantly talk sh*t in Spanish, because of course they assumed he didn't understand. He let that go on for months...them just sh*t talking him right in front of him! Then one day one of them asked him something, and he responded in Spanish. He said the looks on their faces was hilarious. Like..."oh sh*t!! What have I said about him, in FRONT of him, in the past?? 😥😥😥" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 So he careful, because you never know. Lol

It’s kinda difficult bc they speak german all the time... so everyone blames me (grandparents etc.) that I cannot speak Turkish or Italian sjsjsss ofc it’s unfortunate that I’m not able to bc I actually had the chance to speak 3 mf languages fluently!! well now it’s sorta too late bc I’m already overwhelmed with English and Spanish at school🥴 but yea, just wanted to say that other countries think like this as well

So why wouldn't he have told them that they were recording for a video, that's usually what KZbinrs do lol or make it obvious it's for a KZbin vid. Isn't it illegal to film someone and show their identity without their permission? That's why people get their faces blurred in reality TV shows or some KZbin shows so they don't get sued. Idk, I'm confused with this video. But that's not to say this isn't far from Asian people do gossip about their customers in their own language (which is really rude by the way, to talk about them thinking they won't understand. And right in front of them too.)

Good to hear some bossa nova vibes, sort of a jazz ones! Greetings from South America, midwest Brazil. I only knows how to say "thank you" in chinese, Xiè xiè (in portuguese is like "obrigado", kind of saying "obligation", but it's very common here (context mutation), but you can be unpopular haha and say "Grato", which is "obrigado", but sounds more like "gracias", but in a rude or maybe objective way of saying it)...Something like that! Awesome content. Nice to watch your channel. Soon all of us will have to learn some level of chinese, so just preparing for this !
